  • Kripp's very useful guide about Zephrys the Great

    Quote From Bersak

Hunter is strangly amazing to play right now. It‘s so much fun to figure out a wincondition. I love secret decks in general because of the mindgames but Zephrys is the cherry on the cake.

The best part about this deck, it beats warriors! No draw issues, enough value and good tools to play around their removal. Zephrys into Thirion is totally a thing btw! They use the weapon removal on your eagelhorn bow (if not, they lose). Turns out Ashbringer is a nice warrior killer.

Brann turn 7 is crazy aswell. Cash in those 8 damage, destroy their armor. No shieldslam, no omega devestator, ... they often have to use brawl+ minions to counter this single card!

Some Zephrys plays that Kripp missed:

    - Gorehowl for 7 damage

    - Shadowword death or deadly shot for efficient removal

And early Zephrys plays have serious synergy with Zul‘jin

I fully agree with you, Highlander Hunter is a blast to play!!! :) :) :)

Indeed, he made a point of what i was starting to think myself.

And all the complex mechanics are actually why Zephrys the Great is a fun card. When should I play him? What I'm going to get if I play it like this? Should I wait more or go for Tempo now? Maybe the most fun card in the game.

However, I also noticed that Zephrys can whiff sometimes, and "engineering the situation" is often complicated in terms of real game.

That's a pretty tough downside of the card, and what makes me think Kripp is wrong when he says Highlander decks are going to warp the meta.

I'm pretty sure Team 5 is going to invest a lot of time to improve the code and algorithms behind Zephrys the Great in the future, the card is so cool it really deserves that kind of attention. ;)

Damn, good video. Highlander Hunter is kinda fucked up lol. I hate the decks that punish you for literally playing cards. But good info on how Zephrys work.

    I'm glad you liked it, sinti!!! :) :) :)

Jokes aside, need to watch it later kripp is very informative although not being much of a constructed player.

Haha, don't worry, I know you are joking. But don't forget to watch it later, the video is very informative. :D :D :D

Also, to the people constantly downvoting every single post I make, well, you are just wasting your precious time my beloved ones...

Quest Pally is technically fairly cheap since the only expensive new cards are the Quest and Micro Mummy

  • The Supreme Pillage of Uldum

Thanks. Conjured Mirage has been doing great. This is the tool control priest needed, in order to reach turn 5 and start playing its powerful defensive tools (Mass Hysteria, Rotten Applebaum, Convincing Infiltrator). Two days ago an odd paladin silenced the mirage, I made a trade and I renewed its effect by resummoning it with a Wretched Reclaimer. I managed to survive yet another turn, to play a deathrattle minion and to heal myself to 40 with Amara, Warden of Hope.

Nethersoul Buster works better if you use Crystallizer. I actually put it in (didn't run spirit bomb, as Zoo is aboard-control deck anyway andif you lose control of the board, 4 damage to 1 minion won't change that) as an experiment in the Brawl, it worked quite well in making me 3 mana 9/5's at times while not actually doing any damage.

  • Golden Hero Portrait - Completionist & Grind

    i have 5/9 (shaman,warlock,paladin,druid,priest in order)

my most played is shaman and warlock with over 1k win

i never fully invest into other classes so i miss so many good cards but slowly im trying to  build other 4 classes

  • Kripp's very useful guide about Zephrys the Great

I recently watched this video about the most interesting (and probably the most powerful) card of this set and wanted to share it with you, people. Some things Kripp says are kinda obvious, but most of them are very informative. To anyone out there who hasn't watched it yet, enjoy!!! :D :D :D

  • A Weekend of Wild Decks

Thanks for mentioning my Warlock deck!:)

  • On rarity creep

Broadly speaking, having more legendaries be centrepieces of decks leads to a wider range of distinct decks available. This is not guaranteed as epics, rares or even commons can be centrepieces too, but it tends to be the case. Viewed from the diversity perspective this is surely a good thing. Besides, as you have already said some neutrals still do fill the versatile role.

As for rarity creep itself, we have to consider context at the time each card is printed. Take Maexxna, at the time poisonous (which wasn't even a keyword for another 2.67 years) was limited to small minions and played a kamikaze-like role where you could take down 1 minion of any size, but in practice only 1. So when Maexxna arrived, the idea of having a high health poisonous minion that could easily take down a big minion and survive to kill another was new enough to warrant the rarity.

Fast forward to SoU and poisonous has had rush, divine shield, taunt, magnetic and been a buff multiple times. So simply having a high health poisonous minion no longer feels legendary and it honestly is a common rarity effect in the current state of HS.

By the way, this sort of thing happens in wider society too. Nobody is going to remember you for thinking women should have the right to vote nowadays, but a century ago it was new and special hence the suffragette and suffragist movements are remembered as important parts of history. The normalisation of ideas in society makes them much more common, just as the normalisation of effects in HS leads to rarity creep.

  • Quest deck winrates

I think the largest reasons why the quest decks aren't doing well, like what pretty much everybody else has stated, is simply that the meta isn't in a great spot for them. The whole issue kind of boils down to you jump through a bunch of hurdles to get a hero power that is supposed to synergize with your deck and push you to win, but either the hero power isn't strong enough, like in the case of rogue or hunter, or it just can't compete with other late-game alternatives. I think it is fairly safe to say that almost all the hero powers you get from quests are worse than the Dr. Boom's hero power, which you get from playing a single card instead of dedicating a good portion, if not the entire deck to get a similar power level hero power.

It's pretty safe to say that some of these quests are going to get better next year, once Dr. Boom (and I guess Hagatha to a lesser extent) rotate out since there will be significantly less powerful control options for the late game (hopefully they don't decide to create more heroes for one class).

On that note though, I think another large reason why the quest decks don't have a high win rate is that right now, pretty much all of them don't win you the game. If you take a look at all the successful quest rewards in the past, even those which were less successful such as Nether Portal, they would all be powerful to carry you to win the game, if not too powerful cough Crystal Core cough. I love Ascendant Scroll and all, but there are too many 'junk' spells you can get to really have it be a proper win condition. Sure the Heart of Vir'naal can pick on more midrange decks but it doesn't hold a candle to the value generated from Hagatha and Dr. Boom.

  • Golden Hero Portrait - Completionist & Grind

First golden hero I got was rogue during MSOG before the STB nerf simply because rogue had like 3 viable archetypes and I loved playing them all, followed by hunter during Boomsday (and mainly in wild due to both secret and mech being absurdly fun) and just recently got paladin despite it being my go-to ranked class for about a year.

My other classes are all in the 300~ range, with the exception of druid and warrior since I do not find the classes to be fun most of the time. The classes I am currently working on the most are shaman and warrior, using a totem shaman for wild and a control warrior in standard, at least for now.

  • Skillvanas Hunter

I like the idea of beating big priest with a taste of their own medicine. Will have to try for sure!

  • Quest deck winrates

    It's simple:

    • Quest paladin has an insane winrate against control warrior, which is tier 1
    • Quest shaman is harder to refine than the rest because of how many battlecries there are in the game (you can't just search for "reborn" and add everything like paladin); its winrate should rise at some point
    • Quest druid looks good on paper, but loses hard to all of the current top tier decks (control warrior, giant mages, murloc paladin).  In a more stable meta where people are triharding, the deck is just not good.  I've played 29 games total @ rank 1 and haven't found a single druid
    • Everything else is just bad and/or has a stronger non-quest counterpart

IMO, the druid quest has potential as a support card for other archetypes of druid, where instead of spamming choose 1 cards as your win condition, you have some kind of combo or other finisher.  The quest is probably worth playing just to activate your nourish, oasis surgers, wrath and starfall.  I wouldn't call these quest druids anymore than you'd call the current control warriors "taunt warrior" for having a small amount of taunt synergy however

  • Golden Hero Portrait - Completionist & Grind

I'm close on my warrior and Hunter will take a while... But they are the last ones for me
