I’m about 40 wins away from priest, 80 from Hunter and about 120 away from Druid. Looking forward to being done with the grind
I finished Priest yesterday and am now working on Hunter. I always thought Hunter would probably be my last class to make golden, but luckily Highlander is doing well right now as it plays to my game style better than the Hunter builds I dislike, re: face or beast Hunter
Played wow from launch but nowadays I play to do the story then unsubscribe and wait a few months for more content. I used to be playing it every day for hours.
I would say wow made me play hearthstone. I don't play card games really and if it wasn't for the wow link I wouldn't have tried hearthstone.
Been a Wow player since vanilla up to legion. I stopped playing somewhere halfway. I didn't like the direction they were going. Wow has not been the reason I play HS. But after the break from WoW it definitely gives me the nostalgia feeling. Will always miss WoW and love it, and who knows maybe in the future I return, but dunno
I have made 2 versions of 2 Quests Priest. Tried both of them, and they're actually better than I thought they would be. Could definitely still refinement. It's hard having both quests in your mulligan. I've been playing with keeping Awaken the Makers then depending on drawing or discovering Activate the Obelisk via [Hearthstone Card (Shadowvisions) Not Found], but I'm not sure if that's the best way to go about it.
I like the legendaries being more specialized rather than just overpowered, auto include cards like ragnaros, dr boom, sylvanus, loatheb, etc. It makes decks more interesting and unique, rather than both sides being the same powerful shell that differs mainly on some of the class card inclusions. Decks from any individual class are almost not alike at all.
I can understand the issue for free to play players though. You can't just craft a few safe legendaries and be able to play most decks after crafting a few epics and a couple class legendaries. But as someone who pays a reasonable amount of money, I care more about the quality of gameplay than the accessibility for people who don't want to spend anything on it.
These expansions are not enough anymore, we need more content, balance, features, anything. I was also bored at release day and still am.
Quests are unplayable garbage, people still playing their beloved T1 netdeck with zero new cards included.
Everything can't be playable/viable. You'd have to nerf so many cards to kill decks from expansions that are not part of the new expansion, or nerf a ton of them to knock them down 1+ tier levels and something tells me that you do that sales will take a hit because nobody wants a third to half of their collection that they bought with real money to be nerfed (let alone to allow new cards that they are supposed to spend more real money on can replace their previously bought cards)
I'd like to think that the lower winrate of quest shaman and quest druid is due to the large amount of experimentation, and that as time goes on, the better builds will win out and they will both end up with higher winrates. I'm not so hopeful though, especially on quest druid. Quest shaman shows more promise.
For quest druid: At all ranks, it is 49.5% over the entire expansion. Last 3 days it is at 48.7% and last 1 day it is at 47.5%. So it seems that the quest druid is just worsening over time. At upper ranks it is doing even worse. From rank 5-legend, it is 47.1% over the whole expansion, 46.6% over past 3 days and 45.7% over the past day. It's looking bleak for quest druid.
For quest shaman: At all ranks, it is 49% over the entire expansion. Past 3 days, it is also 49%. Past 1 day, it is up to 49.5%. It's been improving slightly, so there might be some promise here. At upper ranks, it is 48.2% over the whole expansion. Past 3 days, it is at 48.3%. Past 1 day it is at 48.6%. So we've seen some improvement, though it's still fairly negative.
Quest shaman I'd say is also the deck that has the most possibilities for different builds. You can go all the way from a fast aggro version meant to burn down the opponent immediately, all the way up to a fatigue style control deck. So there's a lot more possibilities and variance in the builds, as well as a lot more room to find the perfect formula that will have the best chances of winning in the current meta.
Quest druid on the other hand is far more straight forward in its build. The number of different choose one cards are rather limited, so the different ways you can actually build the deck are limited as well. Druid doesn't have the tools to be much of a control deck without single target removals or any serious board clears, nor can the quest be aggro with how it forces you to skip using your mana. It will always be either a midrange value deck or some sort of crazy combo deck with Elise.
So based on the info we have available, I'd assume that when everything is finished, quest shaman will end up as a pretty solid T2 deck list while quest druid will be little more than a tier 3 deck used in certain competitive circumstances where you can ban bad matchups. Even then though, there may be better options.
Reached legend again just now @ 71% winrate with freeze mage!
This had to be one of the most frustrating legend runs I've had in awhile. Faced the final boss 7 times in total and on the 6th time, I almost fell out of rank 1 (climbing got a lot harder at ranks where people figured out that quest druid is terrible lol)
I think I'm done with giants based mages for the foreseeable future after this. I like to play decks where I'm happy to queue into the mirror because I think I can easily outplay the opponent. With giants mages, you will easily lose regardless if the opponent has pocket galaxy in a timely manner and you don't, which is frustrating to me (Although, one time I almost beat someone with that kind of draw: I had giants, chain freezes and made the decision to capitalize on them rather than try to go even and lose slowly... would have won if the opponent didn't power of creation into taunts in the end)
The meta was pretty stable once I started reaching the trihard ranks. It's mostly reno mages up here, with a number of aggro shamans, control warriors and murloc paladins. A small amount of tempo rogues, midrange/reno hunters. One inner fire priest that I kept queuing into. No druids or warlocks whatsoever
I played WoW about a year ago to get Liadrin, I enjoyed it. Not enough to spend money on, but the world was really interesting and the gameplay wasn't terrible. It was my first time playing a MMORPG of that scale and it was awesome to see how big some of those maps are. Coincidentally I played a worgen druid less than a month before Witchwood was announced, so I understood a lot of the references.
I started playing WoW during it's late vanilla days just before the Burning Crusade expansion. Played through Wraith of the Lich King and i absolutely loved the lore and the journey that the quests took me on. It was just so epic and immersive, and Death Knights were just the best thing. I still have the DVD-ROM here for memories. Immediately after launch i had ground out a blood Death Knight to the level cap of what i believe was 80 at the time, then stopped playing because i was young and really didn't get the whole 'raiding' concept at the time.
When i met my wife one of the first things we talked about was WoW and it was definitely a huge part of that connection. I had coincidentally gotten an email from blizzard offering to 'resurrect' my account and give me the Cataclysm expansion for free along with some play time and it was unquestionably accepted. We played a lot together through the story of Pandaria. The Timeless Isle was the most memorable experience, along with maintaining a farm of useful mats with The Tillers on Halfhill. It offered so many cool things and it was such a blast to immerse yourself in, and that is a damn good thing because it came with a huge content drought afterwards. I ended up finally getting myself the very rare Reins of the Thundering Onyx Cloud Serpentmount which was really cool to fly around on.
Later on i played through Warlords of Draenor, completed a lot of the raids and everything. The story and everything leading up to it as well was just so epic. Back to the roots and back in time through the Dark Portal with Grommash and Garrosh in their homeland before it became the Outland that was featured in the Burning Crusade expansion. Garrosh tries to alter the history of the Orcs and ultimately ends up being slain by Thrall. The cinematic for this was EPIC, you can check it out here.
The launch was horror and i literally had to get my wife to log me in to queue behind thousands of players in the hopes that i would be able to get into the server and play by the time i got home from work. Blizzard seemed to have a meltdown with that launch. It was understandable when the game was new but come on, 5 expansions in now and Blizzard is that unprepared? Small indie company indeed. I enjoyed the story and played a lot but overall it was a terrible expansion compared to the rest because there was so little content up-front that people consumed overnight, as massive as WoW is.
Just before Legion was announced i quit playing and have not returned since. I had just grown out of the whole RPG element of Warcraft, but i still enjoy the lore a lot. It was not my first experience to Warcraft however as i knew all about the previous Warcraft games; my brother played through them heavily and i believe he still plays WoW himself, but this was the first time i had played a game involving it myself and it's been a huge part of my life as a person and as a gamer. Future business decisions aside, they created a masterpiece of a world and look at how far it has come. A lot of creativity and passion went into it, from Chris Metzen especially. Thrall is modeled after him and he even did the voice acting for Thrall, Varian, Ragnaros, Vol'Jin, Nefarian, Hakkar, Saurfang, and apparently even Bastion from Overwatch. TIL, LOL. Most recently he had a major part in the creative direction of Sigma in Overwatch, although he is retired. Very cool dude.
So yeah. I started with the intention of a casual reply to this and ended up providing an essay reflecting on all the epic content i have experienced throughout the years. Definitely worth giving WoW a try if it is something you are interested in. It's more accessible now than it has ever been but i can't speak for the newest content. I am just more of an FPS/Strategy type of gamer these days. Love to see this lore reflected in Hearthstone and extrapolated from in whimsical ways. For more lore content regarding Hearthstone you might enjoy this page.
Played all Warcraft games, I, II and III. Always loved its lore. Played also Dota1 since it first released as a map of warcraft III.
Warcraft was why I started to Hearthstone. Maiev, Illidan and Voljin was my favorite characters from universe in Warcraft III times and I was a fan of MTG, Warcraft TCG and other card games like Pokemon TCG. I couldn't afford to play MTG and Warcraft TCG because I am living in a little town and there was noone or no shops who sells the cards. I heard that there is an upcoming free-to-play online Warcraft Card game coming and I could join it in beta.
I couldn't afford to play WoW at first release because of money issues and I was just 13 years old. I have been playing other MMO's and alwas had wondered WoW because of I was a Warcraft fan. Me, My brother and my friends have been playing so much fan-made maps on LAN and online. We've always been playing Warcraft III multiplayer on LAN. We were real fans of Warcraft Universe. :P
Then I had tried it from a friend's account. It was TBC times when I have first tried it and loved it. Then I got it from a giveaway in Cataclysm with all expansions. Started and played it for 3 months. Then I left it. It bored me because of its mechanics but even though I don't play the game, I always tried to follow its lore from web.
I mean, auto-attack MMORPGs were/are not for me anymore. I had been playing TERA, Elder Scrolls Online and some other games which has same mechanics with Tera and ESO. Choosing your enemy with Tab and your characters auto attacks it is no more for me. It is a really old mechanic tbh which is still WoW's mechanic in late 2019.
I really liked how TERA handled this but still I love Warcraft's lore but I'm a little worried about it because they changed a lot of things. They even changed some connections which I remember from Warcraft III. Yes I'm still a fan but not like before.
And like the others, I had played again for Lady Liadrin and now planning to play Classic WoW when it would been released but I'm not so sure. I want to play it for its old lore but can't be sure if it is worth it or not because of the mechanics which I mentioned above.
Edit: Btw, it's not just Warcraft for me. We growed up with all of the Blizzard games. Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft (didn't really know The Lost Vikings was a game :P) and they are all connected for me really. Now, I have all the games of Blizzard, including Overwatch and HotS. Playing all time to time, I'm still an active player of Overwatch and HotS but I feel really sad about Blizzard's current state and a bit angry. :)
Zephrys is sooooo good in this deck. Running Sandbinder to give yourself 2x the chance to draw it IS worth it. Also you don't want sandbinder to pull Siamat, it does not fit the idea of this deck. By turn 7 you are hoping to win the game not play Siamat. If you get Zephrys before sandbinder it is no big deal, you don't really run out of cards in this deck too much. If there was a card to draw Brann I would run one too, both of those cards are game winners (Especially if you play smart with them).
I've been wanting to try running a double quest reno priest. Maybe I'll finally get around to trying that as I'm getting pretty bored with standard already.
Quest Shaman is a solid Tier 2 deck but I don't see it making it to Tier 1 with the current crop of mediocre early game battlecry minions. I wonder if someone will perfect a list that incorporates overload mechanics, because Thunderhead and Vessina are amazing four drops. But they're not battlecry minions. Time will tell.
Quest Paladin can be very slow to start. I've been able to crush them with aggro decks. But yes, if they get the quest going and make copies of the deathrattles, it is very oppressive.
The exact time frame or order of when I played certain games is a blur to me as it was so long ago. At some point I played Warcraft 2 and 3 and enjoyed them for their single player lore, characters, and plots. I was at a point where I had started moving on from mostly Nintendo exclusive games which dominated my childhood, and I got heavily attached to a little known RPG series called Final Fantasy.
I played Final Fantasy 4-10 (American Numbers) and X-2 multiple times each and loved just about every minute. I considered myself a completionist at the time and finished almost 100% of the side quests and item gathering in most of the games (Fuck Blitzball though. I wasn't grinding through that shit). A MMORPG was a turn off for me because an ever-expanding story would be seemingly difficult to keep up with. Final Fantasy 12 was a huge disappointment for me. It felt and looked like a MMORPG even though I had never played one before. 13 also sucked and I quit Final Fantasy at that point.
I had played Final Fantasy so much that I burnt out on it. By the time WOW came out, I knew that I did not want to get addicted to another game like Final Fantasy that I would never be able to experience even 75% of what it had to offer. I certainly did not want to pay a monthly fee on top of that for the addiction or spend a lot of money on any one game so I swore I would never play it.
Then one day Hearthstone got popular, and I noticed it had some of the characters from Warcraft 3. Curiosity got the best of me eventually so I got on the train more than halfway through The Grand Tournament. It was all under control though because I was going to be FTP arena type player and not get addicted or spend money.
Fast forward to today: I have spent more money trying to stay current in Hearthstone than I care to admit, and I sit here wondering if maybe a past WOW addiction would have been the better option!
I think rotating a single expansion every time a new one releases would do a lot to help the meta feel new with each expansion. There should only be 4 sets active in standard at a time.
If this were the case, Witchwood would have rotated when SoU dropped. Leaving BDP, RR, RoS and SoU.
Come next xpac, Boomsday would see the door, putting an end to this boring mech meta and allowing some other cards time to shine.
This would allow each xpac the same amount of time in standard as well. WW came out in April 2018, by the time it rotates, we will have been playing those cards for 2 years. Yet at the same time RR will rotate after only 1 year and 4 months.
I don't really focus on how often I see XYZ decks from my opponents. I hang around rank 20-15 so I see a good bit of variety and a lot of top tier decks handled very VERY badly. in the end I see them the same way I see AI opponents. If I play Mario, I expect to see Bowser, so I'm mostly replaying to find new ways to beat him. Same here: Bomb warrior showing 50 times in a row is just 50 times I get to try and master different strategies: see if Muck beats it, see if Tess Rogue does it, see if I can get a Reno deck to work on it. My joy isn't in what they do, but what I do to them.
Thanks for this! This is exactly how I need to try and see the game.
When I eventually get the new Priest Quest I’ll probably try running both. The old quest gives you survivability, while the new one helps give board presence (which is something Priest has needed)
So did anyone try double quests yet? I know you can't use 2 at the same time, but what if you mulligan one away? For example, you could use Raid The Sky Temple and Waygate's. First complete Sky Temple, in wild it should be quite easy, then you find the other quest as a second win-con. Or something like that.
Also, you could complete Hunter's first quest and then throw an Unseal The Vault. I dunno. Just think of the p o s s i b i l i t i e s.
Golden Hero Portrait - Completionist & Grind
I finished Priest yesterday and am now working on Hunter. I always thought Hunter would probably be my last class to make golden, but luckily Highlander is doing well right now as it plays to my game style better than the Hunter builds I dislike, re: face or beast Hunter

Some stand out cards after playing a few games
Bloodmage Thalnos - works great for completing Awaken the Makers, and helps with Activate the Obelisk when combined with Spirit Lash
Khartut Defender - gives you 2 towards Awaken the Makers or 6 towards Activate the Obelisk
On rarity creep

As a Hearthstone player have you ever tried WoW?
Tired of Hearthstone
Tired of Hearthstone
Thanks for this! This is exactly how I need to try and see the game.
Double quests!
When I eventually get the new Priest Quest I’ll probably try running both. The old quest gives you survivability, while the new one helps give board presence (which is something Priest has needed)
Double quests!
Tired of Hearthstone
These expansions are not enough anymore, we need more content, balance, features, anything.
I was also bored at release day and still am.
Quests are unplayable garbage, people still playing their beloved T1 netdeck with zero new cards included.
