I couldn't believe it.  I've got two legendaries in a pack before but not one of them being golden and not with two epics.

I thought I would try a new series where we talk about the top decks being played and their relative weaknesses.

The variance featured in any card game means that it's possible to que into certain decks over and over even if they aren't statistically played the highest.

So we're going to tackle all of the usual suspects ranging from Tier 1 - Tier 2 based on popular archetypes.

1. Bilegewater Bannerman

A very straightforward list that uses Lucian and mf, in combination with going wide with lots of little dudes and buffing with barriers, and stats

The best counter to this list in on curve removal, deal with threats as they are played which will deny their aggro and snowball potential

Keep in mind rangers resolve is always an option for them and will be played in response to aoe

As for brews, any region will work as long as it's slanted towards control, with pinging effects available to shadow, P and Z, Bilge being the best

2. Ezreal TF

This is the ultimate yoink, control, endgame burn monster, that only has three overt weakness.

The first is just to play so many big dudes that 7 pings off a riptide rex isn't a big deal, deep can do this or freijord

The second is play a bunch of shadow chump that only gains value when they die like in they who endure

The third is play fast and hard with aggro

So there is no perfect brew approach just experiment with these three solutions to see what works best

3. Ash Sej

Thought to be the best midrange list, and it probably is.

It runs a ton of 5 attack creatures, and than draws off trifarian assessor

It frostbites you during combat

And it even has 1 board clear

There is only 1 weakness here and that is haaaaaard control

I'm talking, ruination, vengence, thermo beam, anything that kills unconditionally

4. Deep

Deep plays big dudes, and mills you, and it's annoying but it's also balanced

Damage done that ignores board state is your friend here

Experiment with elusives, burn options, and Ezreal to find what works best

Beyond that will of ionia is still a card and concussive palm so that region is a valid option here

As for trying to out control them that is a very bad option, go with aggro instead.

5. They who endure

Plays a bunch of dudes that threaten just enough damage to possible kills you, and then plays a 20/20 overwhelm

Another list that is designed to beat control, and aggro by draining their resources.

Here I would suggest a solid value midrange brew, play stuff that isn't threatened by their little dudes, but also will win you the game before their trump card gets too big to deal with.

Ash Sej is a solid option, tempo Sej, bannerman variants, discard because they don't have removal for jinx.

6. Burn variants

Burn will always be a thing in legends in some shape or form, because non combat damage is very good against some lists

Therefore the best counter will always be healing, usually whatever you're playing is fine but incorporate 6 - 10 points of healing for a big uptick in wins.

7. Elusives

Always tricky to play against, because winning games quickly go to losing games

Fast speed removal is your best friend here, with single combat being the a real headache the same is true of challenger

You're taking an un-interactive board and forcing interactivity, so Demacia is a solid counter

consider lux, or bannerman

8. Tempo Sej

Plays a bunch of dudes along with yoink and riptide rex

Used to be the strongest deck in the game, and is still very good.

Deep is the best yoink counter

you give them useless cards, think of high synergy brews

9. Darrowing

Nox allegience aggro, with Darius and harrowing as their endgame plan

This list can present a brewing challenge, because you are on two clocks.

The first is you die to aggro because you didn't brew in enough removal

The second is you die to harrowing

Ezreal lists are a great option here because you will be able to deal with the aggro, and burn them down when they play harrowing.

10. Karma/ Yassao

Ionia is very good at disruption, and very bad at hard removal

If you run a list that is good at board development you will win

Darrowing is a great option here, you present an aggressive board state, and even if it gets controlled out

You have harrowing and they have no healing

You'll win eventually one way or another

but only Bronze 1 in Wild. 

My usual rank in Wild is Diamond 5+, but in June I was only something like Platinum 8 and this month I played only 3 or 4 games.

Do you think I will lose a star this month?

For some reason I'm bored playing Wild, but there are 3-4 days left and maybe I can force myself playing it a bit to stop MMR decay. Is MMR decay a thing? Do I need to just win a bunch of games, or reach Diamond 5 to keep 10 stars bonus? Well, even if I lose a star, next time more effort will be needed to reach Diamond 5, but streaks still work there (unlike later).

I heard you are matched according to MMR all the way to your class (1 star), after that you're not matched by MMR, but by class/rank. It's noticeable, because, e.g. my climb from 5 to Legend was easier, because people played worse and worse decks.

I'll only have a few hours of time when the expansion hits next week, so I decided to use this feature this time. It's pretty easy, just go here and follow the instructions. Fingers crossed for a good haul, I'll make sure to report back what I got. I'm hoping for Ace Hunter Kreen, Professor Slate, Ras Frostwhisper and Mozaki, Master Duelist. Really lots of strong epics this expansion, that might end up being quite expensive.

• His hero power is super fun to play with if you can use it a couple times in a game. I think the discover aspect is a little underpowered and maybe that number can be tweaked to adjust his win rates once there is more data (i.e. discover 4 minions instead)
• He feels like a combination of playing Patchwerk without the HP boost and Eudora without the consistency. You're essentially doing nothing with your hero power for most of the game and you never know when your hero power will actually activate. I think it's a fair trade-off since theoretically you could end a game having "dug" 6 golden minions from your opponents and discovering a minion from a tier up 6 different times if you happen to discover a golden minion each time from your hero power.
• The unfortunate thing is that most people who die in the early game don't have super strong minions to begin with, so often your hero power for the first couple of deaths don't provide you with a huge power boost anyways
• Because of his inconsistency I think he will be a Tier 3 or Tier 4 hero in terms of win-rates but I think you will definitely see him from time to time at all MMR levels just because there is always a chance he can snowball and win games with his hero power.

Before each expansion, I like to theorycraft at least one deck for every class, and challenge others on the Forum to do the same and share what they got. Of course originality is icing on the cake! So here's what I've got so far for Scholomance Academy. Feedback welcome!

Demon Hunter

I'm not a big fan of standard tempo DH, and not very impressed with the Token DH cards that are coming out in Scholomance. So I went all-in with the other package they're getting, the Soul Fragments, and tried to make a control deck out of it (since it includes a new 3-damage AoE and a 7-drop that summons a bunch of 3/3s with Rush).

I refrained from Pit Commander because I have 1/3 Spirit Jailers. I tried to be picky about how many Outcast cards I included, so that Double Jump will be good for tutoring Skull of Gul'dan often.

I really tried to make Healz Druid work, but what I came up with looked awful even with the new SA cards supporting it. So I decided to go less original and focus my deck around Guardian Animals. So I included beast synergies, but no beasts of less than 5 cost except Escaped Manasabers. Then the low end of the curve includes ramp (Lightning Bloom), removal, value-cards, and taunts to stall with.

Germination is included mostly because it's awesome to buff Speaker Gidra with. Two copies of it might be overkill though.

Mage

OK, so back in Rise of Shadows, and to a lesser extent in Uldum, I really liked my aggro Spell Damage Burn Mage deck. And this set has more spell damage synergy than we've ever seen before except in RoS. So I'm hoping I can resurrect this concept.

The biggest boon is a lot more card draw to replace what Stargazer Luna once did for the deck; I've more than once wished for pretty much exactly Cram Session to exist, and now it will. So that can replace Arcane Intellect and be an improvement. Then a Voracious Reader (or maybe two? I haven't found the room so far ...) can take Luna's place.

Combustion sort of takes the place that Shooting Star once held. New 1-drop Spell Damages (!!) Ethereal Augmerchant (also flexible as removal) and Lab Partner make up for the losses of Cosmic Anomaly and Spellzerker. I also replaced Mana Reservoirs with Primordial Studies to try out; hopefully on average Reservoir or a better cheap spell damage minion will show up in the Discover pool? Mozaki, Master Duelist is an improvement on the sometimes-included Azerite Elemental from the old deck, and Ras Frostwhisper can replace the sometimes-included Arcane Explosion while simultaneously adding reach to hit face.

This is the deck I'm most excited to play in the exp, if you couldn't tell. It's expensive though. Time to spend a lot of dust ...

Paladin

Not too creative here again; just using the new tools like First Day of School and Devout Pupil to patch up weaknesses in Libram Paladin with Lightforged Zealot (i.e. it's a "pure paladin," but one without even Lightforged Crusader, because random Paladin cards often suck). Lord Barov is almost a Wild Pyromancer + Equality combo in one card.

I'm not sure how good Argent Braggart and Judicious Junior are, but I'm experimenting with one copy of each.

Priest

There's no way I'm coming up with a better control priests than a gazillion Priest specialists online; it's just not an archetype I understand very well. So I went with a Zoo Priest concept instead. But then I found myself wanting to include WAY too many cards, so ... the natural solution was to go Highlander and add Zephrys the Great! (But not Dragonqueen Alexstrasza; she's way too slow for the concept.)

The biggest challenge for this deck will be generating enough card draw with Northshire Cleric gone and Power Word: Shield nerfed. I did my best, with Raise Dead, Novice Engineer, Loot Hoarder, and Voracious Reader.

Disciplinarian Gandling is kind of the linchpin card of the deck, that will probably have the highest Drawn Winrate. But you can't count on drawing him, so I tried to make the deck strong even if you don't.

Rogue

I was pretty tempted to theorycraft a Weapon Rogue with the cute new package, but I knew I wanted to use that same package for my Warrior deck, so I decided not to put too decks that were so similar on this thread. I'll still theorycraft a Weapon Rogue, but I dunno if I'll share it.

So instead, I thought I'd update my "The Assassins" deck from AoO. It's an aggro Stealth rogue, which is an archetype I imagine will be pretty popular in SA; but I think my Plague of Madness + weapon removal combo (for hard removal + card draw) will still make this take on the deck original.

Sneaky Delinquent and Infiltrator Lilian replace Wasteland Assassin, which is a bit slow for this aggressive of a deck. The deck often went into topdeck mode even with Harrison Jones and Greyheart Sages, so I think the additions of Secret Passages and Voracious Reader will be a big power boost.

Warlock

I already did the Soul Fragments thing with DH, and I'm certainly not qualified to figure out how to improve Questlock in the new exp. So I went with the "change your health on your turn" theme. After I put in all the cards I wanted for that package, I had 6 slots left, and I was pretty close to a very evenly-distributed, symmetric mana curve, and I had some dragon-dependent synergies. I considered squeezing in a Galakrond package, but I ended up just saying "Let's see if midrange Warlock can be a thing for once" and adding a couple more dragons that fit the dents in the mana curve.

EDIT: Revised based on a friend's feedback. No longer has an eleganly symmetric mana curve, or as many Dragons for consistency, but has more draw and heal and less ways to hurt itself and is undoubtedly better.

Warrior

As I mentioned above, I love the new Weapon synergy cards and wanted to center my Warrior deck on that. My dream is that it might even bring Gorehowl back to relevance. So I'm gonna try.

Weapon Warrior is naturally going to take a bunch of face damage, though, so I put in a Taunt package for survivability: Into the Fray x2, Frightened Flunky x2, Infested Goblin x1, Armagedillo, Scrap Golem x1. Then I also added a small Pirate package, because that's practically required in the age of Risky Skipper and Ancharrr, and Dread Corsair fit nicely into all three themes.

Having such a big hole in my curve at 3 is a bit suspect, but the deck (now updated with feedback from a friend) is worth a try I think. I've tried out the small Taunt package + small Pirate package thing before (with either Enrage or Galakrond as the "main" packages), but the biggest thing that was missing was enough card draw. So hopefully Cutting Class will be a huge improvement on this style of deck.

Because I seriously remember reading some kind of interview to the HS staff where the guy said something along the line of "Dont dust your Wild card just yet! You are going to be able to use them in the upcoming mode". I cant find this quote now tho' and being myself a free to play-er and having neglected the game in favor of LoR those last months, I was thinking of dusting some old legendaries to keep up with the new cards. Dont want it to turn out to be a shitty idea when the new mode is announced, can somebody confirm this?

Basically, pick a deck that has an elusive. Keep it in hand until it's lethal and attack with it.

Pretty sure that's all we'll see while we have this rule. You should just never cast an elusive early. With 30 health it's not even worth it.

When I was building my Totem Shaman, Trick Totem appeared under Shaman cards, but once I published the deck it appears under the neutral cards in the decklist. This seems to be occurring with all decks that include Trick Totem and I don't see this problem with any other dual class cards that I've included so far.

Here we are, I've nearly completed my free to play collection, and can provide a deck for literally every champion in the game except for Fiz who is just kind of irritating lol.

Mixed? A bit let down I guess?

So far there are a lot of interesting mechanics, but I can't but feel that I'm so far only really excited about the new DH cards (because it pulls the class away from just hyper aggression) and the various deck manipulation neutral legendaries. Maybe standard players are more excited about this expansion, but so many of the dual class cards seem way more powered down than they could have been. I'm legit not even excited for any of the rogue legendaries, for example. None of them match even the post-nerfed rogue Galakrond (which begs the question why you'd play them over him competitively).

I just feel this expansion has a ton of neat flavor and novelty, but in more cases than not lacks the power level, which can't help me feeling like SA is a better version of TGT in modern HS.

What are your guys' impression so far? I'm also curious how any fellow wild players view the impact of this expansion. Can't help but feel most of the impactful cards will mainly be restricted to the neutral legendaries.

So after all the cards got released I like to do some sort of sorting, which card belongs to what archtype (or several)

I won't go and rate every card.. that's tidious and guys like trump or regis do better job at that.. so I will just put my thought on which archtypes we can expect and which archtypes got more support.

Going on alphabetical order, shared archtypes will appear on both classes.

Priest

Rogue

Shaman

Warlock

Warrior

If I missed an archtype it's fine I probably did I think this time around the meta will be diverse unless something goes horribly wrong.. (I have a feeling it will be because of druid or shaman..)

Brann + Illucia will do nothing but will revert the deck and hand with opponent on your next turn, giving your opponent a useless deck till the end of the duel. It should work and I don't think this is tested.

Since I have most of the cards of this deck and you know, first days of expansion pasts with aggressive Hunters mostly as always (lol) and just because of that rather than rage against those hunters, I've decided to make a deck for first days of the Scholomance Academy.

Since I have all of the other cards except Scholomance Academy ones and they are just 4 copies as 2 Legendary and 2 Epics, it won't be a huge problem for me to craft this. Legendaries both are worthwhile in my opinion; Vectus and Lorekeeper Polkelt, Epics are 2x Trueaim Crescent and i'm not so sure about it but well, since it is a dual-class card, it might be worthwhile too.

I'm not master of aggressive decks such as burn, it is least played archetype by me so I want to ask for some help here. Are there any suggestions or replacements that you can advise ?

How many Legendary / Epic are missing ?

Never before have we seen such a level of region balance in Legends of Runterra, which necessitates a new ranking system for my region tier list series, we will now be using a simple tier 1 to 3 ranking. Once again ranking are based on two things, the first being the number of OP decks being played competitively, and number 2 is the variety of lists that can be played semi competitively.

Tier 1 - P and Z, Bilgewater

Bilgewater allegience is proving to be the control deck of choice now that healing isn't as useful with the absence of aggro.

There are a number of pinging effects that can be buffed with kegs, and riptide rex is a board clear on a body

Yoink is still great on merchant and grifter offering insane card advantage

As for P and Z, Ezreal is an easy wincon for control decks, and Jinx has been buffed through her followers to be an aggro alternative

Vi and Heimer are still fine, even if they don't have a home at the moment.

Tier 2 - Noxious, Demacia, Freijord, Ionia, Shadow

The big changes here is that the Noxious nerfs have had the region rely more on it's midrange identity, which is very healthy

Freijord champs have been tweaked so they aren't the best in the game anymore

Demacia has room to be the best aggro region again, with Lux being there for control decks

Ionia is just doing it's thing, Zed is fine, Karma is fine and they serve their aggro and control lists effectively

Shadow is still doing it's thing in Deep and They who Endure

Tier 3 - Nothing

If we see a few tweaks to bilgewater allegience and Ezreal and riptide rex - I honestly believe that the game will be essentially balanced

At least till the new set releases

Hello guys, for the people who ordered the 85 pack bundle, how do you plan on opening the golden packs, first or last?

As for myself, I'll have around 150 total packs when the expansion hits (meaning around 145 normal packs) and I'm considering opening the golden packs first, since if I were to open then last, I fear I would have most of the cards already, resulting in poor luck.

What are your thoughts about this?

Shiny new busted cards to make new players want to play hearthstone, while at the same time making long time players hate playing hearthstone. IDK maybe they think the people coming in will be more than the people leaving, but negativity bias exists for a reason. People remember when they get shit on over and over by DH more than they'll remember winning against them. I will not play this game when the expansion drops. I'm not paying activision for this shit. And i'm not going to play until this class gets fixed. And hopefully others are just like me to make activision finally stop releasing busted cards that are intended to be busted and not fun to play against.
