We only got like 8 new neutral dragons. I really did not expect a good dragon deck to appear. The closest contenders were Paladin and Hunter, as their Dragon cards were pretty strong, but ultimately fell flat against other decks.
I’m disappointed as well that we got so few dragons to be honest, and the fact that they were really trying to push the evasive keyword onto the dragons, so one or two got wasted as pack fillers.
Nope. I played Zephrys at 0 mana multiple times and not ONCE has he offered me a silence for the Apothecary. I suspect it has something to do with the deathrattle coming from the combo effect. Similar results with Hex and Earth Shock, even when it was the ONLY minion on board
I'm actually wondering how long it'll take someone to make this work in an infinite Shudderwock deck again. Surprised Blizzard went and made this mistake again after having to nerf Saronite Chain Gang. Admittedly, it's a bit too slow for the current meta, but things can change with nerfs incoming.
The combo is much less reliable than the old Saronite+Grumble one, and the payoff is much worse as well as this doesn't give you 1 cost Shudderwocks either, so at best "infinite" means playing 1 Shudderwock per turn for the rest of the game. But the bigger issue is the unreliability of the combo due to the extra hurdle of requiring bodies on board to transform into shudderwock copies: if you get your corruptor procs before you spawn your tokens, or if your barista procs before your tokens are tronsformed you're screwed.
The key missing component for infinite Shudderwock in standard is the double battlecry. This way, you will likely have a least one Shudderwock bounced/copied back. There is no more Murmuring Elemental, there is no Brann, no emperor Thaurissan. The quest would only be reliable if you had Thaurissan (to discount Shudderwock or Fencing Coach).
Without this, you rely heavily on The Coin, which is an awful strategy (better just play Galakrond and fill the board with rush minions).
Did this day 1 and can confirm that it sucks. I used a Galakrond package to survive and then mill them to death with Utgarde Grapplesniper and Body Wrappers to refill. (You could use Lifedrinkers, but thats not gimmicky enough)
Most of the time you beat your opponent to death before the infinite part even plays a factor. Then I did it without a Gally package and got beat down by everything. So yeah.
Although, now I fear a meta where Demons reign supreme, and they can only be checked by poisonous Murlocs. I think we may see some people being forced to pick up at least a couple of Poisonous Murlocs to fend off the Demon hordes.
I’d say that there are way too many ways for aggro decks to refill the board now. After the first wave, cards like Faceless Hoerupptor immediately create large tempo swings while leaving behind big bodies. Our good removals usually come at turns 7/8 and if you somehow reach that stage, well good luck dealing with 4 8/8 rush dudes after expiring all your removal..
Remember when getting Keleseth into Shadowstep was considered an insane highroll? Well, now you can do it for zero mana with barely any downside... and you can draft multiple of them. Druid is so insane in arena rn, same as Hunter. Play Embiggen and win, if you fuck up just use Ultimate Infestation and win lol. Fuck this. Also, when can we ban Faceless Hoerupttor? Stupid ass card that has way too much tempo and value.
Welp, seeing as how Shaman is still ruling the ladder, I switched back to Battlegrounds to bide my time for the nerfs. I forgot how much I loved this mode, so I opened up a thread to talk about it.
Well, to start things off, I want to ask a question: how would you balance the Battlegrounds?
I was trying to think of something and my solution was: ”what if we removed Toxfin?” Seeing as how Murlocs are really strong right now, and perhaps even OP, I was wondering how to fix the problem and thought of this. It lessens the chances of Amalgam getting poisonous and weakens Murlocs quite a lot. Would this kill off the murloc archetype completely, or would it help balance the game by nerfing Amalgams and Murlocs at the same time? What are your thoughts? This also opens up the possibility of Demons becoming the strongest archetype, but who knows?
Also, Dragons are entering the Battlegrounds soon! I’m very interested to see how that can shake things up.
First two lines reference death - deathrattle - and riding something. The recovery part can refer to the taunt aspect of it.
The last two lines may refer to its flavour text: “What beats cavalry? Dinosaur Cavalry!” Which may imply a “whole new game” once you click on it and try dinosaur cavalry!
Looks pretty fun, but I am still very skeptical about Galakrond and Quest together in the same deck. Who knows? Maybe the board flood strategy from Galakrond may end up being better than a “regular” Quest Shaman build.
My gripe is that Quest Shaman usually wins with endless pressure to your life total via Lifedrinkers, Lackeys and maybe Cumulo Maximus. This deck does not really have any way to win outside of hoping your opponent does not have enough removals.
OOOH Tyrande for free? Why, thank you Blizzard! I guess this makes up for the lack of a free hero earlier in the year.
Interesting changes to Battlegrounds, I'm glad they are listening to feedback! Oh, and all the new heroes are super broke too... hoo boy. I am particularly worried about the new murloc tho. It adds more consistency to murlocs, an already strong archetype. Although, if you reach tavern 5 with a Murloc based build, I guess you were already going to win anyway.
And what do they mean by 35 new cards for the Galakrond adventure? Are they going to add more cards post launch? Its official, T5 is off their rocker this year. For better or for worse. Also, Team E.V.I.L all the way!
My guess would have to be Conjured Mirage!
It was never a good card, and if you played it, you would have to be quite far behind. When its power activates, it leaves you defenseless.
Wow they actually made sure the other player can’t kill you this time!
I find it funny how we can just autofill the lyrics despite there only being murloc garbling and a familiar tune.

YES! FINALLY!
I, for one, welcome our Demon overlords with open arms!

🦀 Amalgam is gone! 🦀

Well, he ain’t called “Green Jesus” for nothing.
Now THAT is disappointing

Opened 82 packs, got 4 legendaries.
Golden Chenvalla
Veranus
Frizz Kindleroot
Kronx Dragonhoof
I got the 2 neutrals, so I’m pretty happy with this.
My guess would be Spikeridged Steed.

Eh, I'm still not sold on Nozdormu to be completely honest.
But on the flipside, I'm glad that someone agrees that Dark Skies is not a bad card.

I'm glad they gave an appropriate text for the aspect of Chonk himself.
Also, I really liked the references for Cumulo Maximus and Embiggen.
Just look at how content he is... 5 stars just for the art. The effect is also very good, it helps to fill the stopgaps in Dragon decks.
