I don't think it's as good as everyone is giving it credit for, but hey face hunters are losing a lot of cards anyways (Trampling Rhino, Adorable Infestation, Demon Companion, Intrepid Initiate, Rinling's Rifle, Wolpertinger, Guardian Augurmerchant) so if it turns out to be insane then let them have it I guess.

It's not that a pirate warrior deck would play this. It's that this card can get you a 1 mana Mr. Smite and 2 other pirates. Ypu don't have to play it in a pirate warrior deck.
Besides, the Tirion comparison is very poor. The power level of this card is far over Tirion in both effect and cost. It gives a lot of resources for its cost.
Edit: I was so busy that didn;t even notice that I did say it as a top end for pirate warriors. Still a quite powerful card though.
How good this card is depends on the holy spells we get later. But the stats and cost are serviceable for its purpose so if we get a good holy spell, chances are this will also see play.
This card is fucking awesome and might be my new favorite card ever. It's a cool lookin' fish samurai with admittedly mediocre stats for its cost, but the effect is love at first sight. It's a card that not only takes skill to play, but also to play against. You have to know the meta and the game state well enough to counter the correct card to put the opponent in an awkward spot. And playing around it requires knowing what your opponent is planning. They might go for spell to deny you from clearing the board, or they might go for minion to prevent you from playing a certain card. Most of the time it might be pretty obvious what the choice is, but there will be situations where it will leave you at least 8 seconds guessing what the choice might be.
On top of that, he's free AND he counters Mecha'thun. God just rail me already fish daddy.
Safe than sorry was never the ideology of wild. The developers intended wild to be a place where people can play cards the way they were. Unless some decks demand an immense apology (Ignite Mage). Changes in wild were made reactively not proactively.
I would be saying the same thing if wild Demon Hunter is not 6 feet under the other classes. IMO They need Skull of Gul'dan unnerf in order to even have a slight hope to be competitive in wild.

Honestly it's actually a very cool top-end for pirate warrior. It's just that Mr. Smite exists.

A little reminder that if you play Vanndar Stormpike, Pet Collector is a 2 mana card that can pull an 8 mana beast or lower. Now that's some fun shit.
