Right off the bat, I find the card concept and art more appealing than Hearthstone's for just one reason: consistency. No "jokey" characters and effects that undermine the lore of the game. And I much prefer card art with a simple but consistent aesthetic over the uneven quality I see on Hearthstone's cards.
Next: card acquisition. Clearly a kinder system compared to Hearthstone's or MTG's.
So far, so promising. But what really got my attention were the two words 'more regions'. That is the sort of expandability I like to see in a card game, not just adding more cards across the board. It will be a cold day in heck when we get a tenth class in Hearthstone.
PS: this isn't a diss of HS btw; I'll probably be playing that game till kingdom come.
At 5, this is surely the ultimate Reno deck, though I had to make some substitutes due to budget constraints. Hopefully, I will get some dust back when the inevitable nerf to Luna's Pocket Galaxy comes along :)
Really love the extra-value game from Brann/Zola/Kazakus/Zephrys.
I'm still trying to get the hang of it, but my last match against an aggressive Quest Druid was quite satisfying and surprising - I didn't think I could survive that long without triggering Ice Block. Using Zola to duplicate Coldlight Oracle is great. It's also rather neat that the combo includes a card that you can also use to find the rest of the combo ie. Research Project. Lastly, I love that an opponent's Ice Block cannot save them from this combo :)
The viability of Raza the Chained over Inkmaster Solia and Krul the Unshackled does lead me wonder to if we would be better off with highlander class cards that provided ongoing value rather than a one-time (and highly conditional) swing. If so, then Sir Finley of the Sands would have the most potential among the new highlander class cards.
With the coming of Zephrys the Great, I was thinking of playing some variant of Reno Priest in wild. This would involve crafting some key legendaries including Raza the Chained and Kazakus. I understand Razakus Priest isn't what it once was, but could it still be a tier 2/3 deck?
10k gold, 13k dust, and extra cards worth 23k dust. I have around 40% of all the legendaries available, mostly from doing the daily quests. I typically open around 100-120 packs over the lifespan of each expansion. The Dalaran Heist adventure used up more gold than I would have liked so I might buy the next solo adventure with real money instead.
I was pretty miffed when Blizzard announced the standard/wild split not long after I crafted the original Dr. Boom. I "had" to play wild to justify that investment. I didn't even like Dr. Boom all that much; I only crafted it because I was sick of always being on the receiving end of that card.
In the beginning I split my time between the two formats. These days I play almost exclusively wild for the crazy combos, and I have no use for Dr. Boom.
Going off-topic here: I still think we should have been compensated in some fashion for the split, given that wild is still mostly treated as an afterthought.
Agreed. It's like Lotus Agents got better stats and rush while losing discover - not too bad a trade-off. Lotus Agents wasn't super-hot in the meta, but I quite like having it in my wild thieving rogue decks, so Bazaar Mugger should make an interesting replacement/one-off.
I'm inclined towards a neutral legendary too, for thematic and technical reasons. The five villain classes already had their time in the spotlight last time. The new highlander class cards, with the possible exception of Sir Finley of the Sands, do not do enough by themselves to justify the deck restriction in standard, so I'm hoping for something between Kazakus and Reno Jackson in impact.
Side note: I look forward to seeing what a wild Reno² Mage would look like with 5(?) highlander cards.
Blade Flurry doesn't work that way though, because it only uses the weapon's damage value to determine its own damage. That's how it was with Envenom Weapon.
Yeah, Team 5 painted themselves into a corner when they decided to assign a distinct class to each hero/villain. Best to forget Brann's earlier incarnation :) Battlecry synergies have been a Shaman thing, not so much Hunter. Anyway, any thematic consistency was broken when they gave Rogues Spirit of the Shark.
Look at it this way: you and I got to enjoy the Ragnaros card back for the past X months while those who missed that particular season didn't. We don't begrudge others the purchase of old games at a discounted price, because there is a value in enjoying something when it's fresh.
Sathrovarr and Shudderwock would make such a lovely couple. Would be nice to play on Da Undatakah too.

Your dedication to Reno Mage is inspiring! I look forward to adapting this deck with the cards from Saviors of Uldum.

Thanks to all for their feedback, and to RavenSun for the detailed analysis. I think I will go ahead with the deck, win rate be damned :)
I'm also looking at Activate the Obelisk for an alternative to Shadowreaper Anduin's hero power. Might it improve Reno Priest's mid-game?

Now that I've seen him up close, that Amet is one sexy beast.

Thanks y'all.

Corrupt the Waters is a must-have for me. I play a wild Battlecry Shaman deck in which this will fit quite nicely.

Not sure this qualifies as a 'plague', maybe just a 'Bout of Madness'. Now if instead it gave every minion on the board poisonous...

Also in wild: Play Fencing Coach during the turn before Shudderwock for double the shenanigans

Cool, instead of just playing Fandral Staghelm, I can now become Fandral
