If you are also keeping up with the daily and weekly quests, you should reach level 50 of the rewards track with time to spare, with or without the tavern pass.

Edit: I assumed you're playing ranked ladder, if you're not then the above may not apply because a significant amount of weekly exp is tied to ranked wins.

Remember, we can still enjoy the game while not liking certain aspects of it. Arena and Wild players have been doing exactly that since the beginning of time so find a friend who partakes in those sides of the game and ask them how they cope.

Haha come on in the Wild water is fine! I bitterly went to Wild because I crafted OG Dr. Boom just weeks before they announced the first set rotation, but now I'm loving it here. Not having to go through annual set rotations is great for casuals - your favourite deck will still work from year to year, with maybe a few new cards per expansion for optimisation or variety.

Edit: on the main topic at hand, there was the concern that the 2 extra legendaries on the rewards track was effectively only one because the first legendary was going to take the place of the one we've been getting at the launch of each new expansion. That turns out to not be the case (ie. we now get three random legendaries outside of packs), but this does support the claim that this was mostly a failure of communication.

It is rather sad that an otherwise happy occasion (new features, new expansion and with a whimsical theme at that) is marred by such controversy. I wanted to believe the best of Blizzard but they really didn't help themselves.

What do you mean you haven't seen any good-faith calculation? People used Blizzard's method of calculation, corrected for certain flawed assumptions, and arrived at similarly low numbers. Yes, some of the reaction has been a little over the top but you reducing the controversy to simply toxic and entitled fandom adds to the negativity. Check yourself.

What he forgets to say is there will be miniexpansion in two months and Blizzard provides us no extra resources for it (in fact, less). It’s ridiculous.

This is true and I imagine some players will be caught out by this - spending all their resources on day 1 and wasting packs on duplicate rares, then struggling to get all the rares from the mini expansion. More details need to be provided on the mini expansion and soon.

Lol Blizzard trying to play math tricks on card gamers

I've followed Chadd's math and I remain unconvinced. Firstly it's practically impossible to complete solely 1000xp daily quests. Furthermore, to assume 1 hour/day of ranked play from someone who can only complete 75% of their quests is way off. I re-roll and keep up with my quests every day and I spend less than 1 hour/day on ranked play. I also don't expect to play much of duels. I used to accumulate 7000+ gold for each new expansion; the math suggests I won't now. One unaccounted variable that could make a significant difference is the special event quests - we'll just have to see how Blizzard handles that.

Then I can judge if this new progression system is better or not.

It is still possible to do so with the tavern pass active, just look at your total XP at the end of the cycle and calculate with this formula:

    UnboostedXP = 72960 + (BoostedXP - 83700) / 1.2

Just some additional numbers for those who are thinking about getting the tavern pass (I'm of two minds about it).

Without XP boost, XP from quests and 1 hour/day of ranked play over 17 weeks is 244,800. That gets you 6000 gold (not counting packs). With XP boost, you'll get 289,900 and 7500 gold instead.

If we don't count ranked play XP, then we're looking at 197,200XP/4350G without boost, and 232,700XP/7050G with boost.

This is disappointing. We were told to expect a similar level of rewards with the same amount of time spent. Through quest completion alone (negligible number of wins) I could count on having 7000+ gold to spend on launch day. Packs that you pick up slowly post-launch don't cut it, worse still if they're from older expansions. And even after converting packs to their equivalent in gold, the numbers still fall short.

Leftmost Garrosh looks pretty dashing, reminds me of Triple H before he went overboard with the juice.

Yeah, we missed an opportunity to see Revolve in action because he didn't want it in his opening hand lol

I would have preferred someone with a little more enthusiasm for the theme of the cards. Watching his facial expressions as John McIntyre explained the thinking behind Confection Cyclone and the Sugar Elementals, like "I'm too old for this", was more than a little disheartening.

On Whack-A-Gnoll Hammer: if I had to guess the class based on the card type and text, Shaman would have been my fourth or fifth guess. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but if I play a Shaman, I want to feel like one; this card just doesn't do it for me.

I can't imagine a new player getting into Standard Hearthstone with so many cards to collect - it seems inevitable there will be a net drop in Standard/Wild ladder players over time. This is probably the main reason Demon Hunter was introduced - new players can get competitive with just the current year plus classic and basic sets.

New game modes can certainly bring in new players, but how to monetise those? With Duels, they're hoping to encourage people to buy the older sets. RegisKillbin criticised the use of Naxxramas and ONiK because they require real money to purchase; I disagree: newer players aren't going to have the gold to buy enough old card packs to matter anyway. Better to use sets which they can complete, legendaries and all, for one flat cost. It could be a trap though - when the season ends, those sets will become 'obsolete' and players will have to invest in other sets to remain competitive in Duels.

I've always thought the roving Eye to be one of the neater card backs, so take my 500 gold no problem.

Based on earlier reports, I have confidence the reward track will be on par with or better than the existing rewards system. The only cosmetic I *really* want is the coin; any chance the tavern pass is purchasable with gold?

Lol the same thing happened with the turtle mage nerf discussion - there’s so much frustration with the state of the game, it’s like we can no longer abide by any differing view however nuanced or well-intentioned it may be.
