Magical creatures are escaping from Tol Barad! Play a minion and get a random spell of the same cost, but for free!
A brawl that debuted in 2015, but last seen in 2017, is making its return this week. The Battle of Tol Barad brings us a deckbuilding challenge that will generate plenty of spells when we play minions. You'll receive one Classic pack for your first win in this week's brawl, so build something great!
A summary of this week's brawl can be found below. If you're looking for more information including tips and tricks, you'll want to head on over to our dedicated Battle of Tol Barad Tavern Brawl Guide. It's also a great place to find the best community-built decks!
Speaking of decks, if you have a great list, be sure to add it to our deckbuilder. Set the "deck type" to "Tavern Brawl" so you can then assign it to the correct brawl to make it easy to find.
How Battle of Tol Barad Works
- Create a custom deck using any class.
- When a minion is played, a random spell of the same cost will be added to your hand.
- This spell is reduced to cost 0 - free spells!
- These spells can be from any class, not always the one you picked.

played tempo damage warrior, became Mind Spike Magni.
Good games
Murloc only deck works fine for me =)
Prince Keleseth + Spiteful Summoner decks are probably an viable option. I tried spiteful hunter with Carnivorous Cube and Kathrena Winterwisp + big dinos combo and I regret nothing. I am actually tuning the deck for ladder now:)
Stupid quarantine is getting to me, I read that as "Coronavirus Cube".
Stay strong! Eat some Funnel Cakes for imunity.
An All Legendary deck is definitely the way to go. Big Recruit Warrior was how I did it. Hilarious 😂
4-0 with Infinite Shudderwock Quest Galakrond Shaman.
Never even made it to the combo, just once made it to turn 10, without Wock in hand, and the entire pre requisite cards already played.
Played AoO zoo with a sprinkling of wild cards, won easily. 1 random spell per turn vs 5-6? well, that's just not really fair.
Treachery Warlock vs. Handbuff/Libram of Wisdom-spam Paladin. It degenerated into a quality clown fiesta.
Went into fatigue, a lot of board clears, a Lorewalker Cho sighting, a use of Void Contract by the paladin, milling on both sides and some great cards provided to me by Anduin, who gave me a copy of Shirvallah, the Tiger for a useful removal and heal. And Valdris Felgorge being a d--k in my deck, as he was the last card.
Treachery + Howlfiend + a few minions to combo and send the Shirvallah in his hand off to the ether and win via rage quit. Guess you can't do anything when you have just a hand of libram buff spells and no minions.
/Treachery remains one of my favorite meme decks. No guarantees but have fun destroying the other guy's hand and/or deck.

Minion based quest burgle rogue, had the quest completed on turn 4. Didn't even have to play Edwin to win. 😁
I instead went with Spectral Cutlass, drawn with Cavern Shinyfinder and buffed by pirates mostly. You never run out of durability so it probably ends up more efficient than the quest, plus the healing is super useful when against aggro decks.
I had a cutlass and shiny in as well, just figured the quest would be useful until I drew them. All in all a pretty fun brawl.
I wish they would give an option to just play one of your Standard decks in a brawl like this so you don't have to go to the trouble of constructing one. I recognize that I'm probably a brawl grump though, I've played since beta and I don't think I've ever intentionally played a brawl past winning my one free pack per week.
you know you can just copy the code of your built decks, enter the brawl and have the game fill in the deck for you?
I don't know anything about that. I play HS on a tablet
It's not different there. Go to your collection -> select a deck -> click on the picture of your hero above the decklist -> copy -> tavern brawl -> create a new deck
Hm, a brawl where I can build my own deck to make the most use out of free spells?
IT'S DEMON HUNTER TIME
Won a few games easy with Mana Addict. Threw in Spectral Cutlass and some weapon buffs for good measure.
Fought one DH who was playing pretty much just the standard tempo deck. Sad, really.
My first thought when I saw the brawl:
“Priest is supposed to be based in tempo and board building right? So let’s do that!”
Only played three so far but I beat two Demon Hunters easy, and a Big Druid who was part frustrated by my board control and part from random secret luck.
Side note: versus both DHs I got a free Metamorphosis and used their own upgraded hero power against them for the finishing blow.
I'm playing pretty much a standard singleton dragon-priest with Galakrond and Kronx. The only wild card in it is Duskbreaker, but its taking care of business
