This year's Hearthstone Global Finals will be taking place at BlizzCon 2019! It has been a few years since we've seen the most prestigious Hearthstone event at the convention, so this is a breath of fresh air for competitive Hearthstone.
The last few BlizzCons have been host to the following Hearthstone events:
- BlizzCon 2018 - Hearthstone Global Games
- BlizzCon 2017 - Hearthstone Inn-vitational
- BlizzCon 2016 - Hearthstone World Championship
As you can see, it has been 3 years since we've seen true competitive Hearthstone at BlizzCon. Here's the important details that have been announced so far:
- Hearthstone Global Finals has a $500,000 Prize Pool
- Three grandmaster players will qualify via Season 1 (May, June, July Season)
- Three grandmaster players will quality via Season 2 (August, September, October Season)
- Two players will qualify through China's Gold Open Series Playoffs on July 20 & October 6
Here is the full announcement.
Quote From Blizzard We’re excited to share that BlizzCon will be the destination for the Hearthstone Global Finals this November! 8 players will duke it out at the Anaheim Convention Center in sunny California for their share of the $500,000 prize pool, the trophy, and the title of Hearthstone World Champion!
Both end-of-season playoffs will qualify one Grandmaster from each region to the Global Finals, meaning three Grandmasters will qualify through the Season 1 Playoffs, with three more qualifying through the Season 2 Playoffs. The final two players will qualify in through China’s Gold Open Series Playoffs, which will take place on July 20 and October 6.
More details about BlizzCon and the Hearthstone Global Finals will be shared in due time. You can catch the Grandmaster’s Season 1 Playoffs action starting on July 12 atTwitch.TV/PlayHearthstone!

Im stoked. Since they took it away, hearthstone has seemed so much less important than the other games at blizzcon.
That combined with hearthstone being off by itself in a whole other area.
Only 2 ? :(
nice , good to know that the next world champion is one hand picked by bli$$ard, this whole master/gmaster system is full of s**t
OT: for the admins - I don't know if you are aware of it but, if I'm not mistaken, tomorrow there will be a Q&A on Reddit with the game Devs. They'll probably say something about the new expansion and maybe will even show some new cards.
Lovely. Preferential treatment for China when their players have done %^$$ in any competitive play that I have seen.
Name some. Like ... *Chinese* players. My guess is that the only(!) person you can name is named Roger and his teammates. Who are not Chinese.
Plus: yes, it's fair to condemn every Asian player due to some black sheep. I think you can find in every country some huge asshole, hating the rest of the country will make you hate everyone. Including yourself.
There are two spots per region, looks like equal treatment to me.
It probably has less to do with preference and more to do with the majority of their region's tournaments having a different format to all the other ones. My assumption would be that the July 20 and Oct 6 tourneys for China will be the "correct format" for the Global Championship.
But you can ignore this and just be mad if you want
Considering Blizzard-Activision just nerfed a bunch of cards' artwork just because of China, more preferential treatment for them is not surprising.
"Considering Blizzard-Activision just nerfed a bunch of cards' artwork just because of China"
Except that this theory is 100% unconfirmed, and they have no reason to lie about it. But cool, spread disinformation with impunity.
Out of all the info here, THAT is what you took from it?! Maybe they have their own time because of a language barrier and the numbers of players from there.
