Prepare yourselves! A reset to everyone's Battlegrounds Rating is coming next week.
Blizzard is light on the details right now, though Dean Ayala did mention a couple of weeks back that this would be occurring with Patch 18.4, so we're getting a patch next week!

I'm so good at Battlegrounds that they only let me choose from two heroes instead of four.

They could also just go ahead and add BG as a new game in the Battlenet client. They call it a mode when its clearly not. In fact some players just exclusively play BGs now.
Just curious: what's the point?
Good players will climb high again and bad players will fall back. If there is no incentive for achieving those high numbers again, like in Ranked, then why bother with resetting MMR? It only takes away my "magic internet points".
Or a large update that changes the entire gamemode may be on its way?
The post says this is to "make way for a new rating system". There will probably be a ranking system akin to constructed, and possible rewards for earning a certain rank. Maybe BG seasons could also have similar ranked rewards that constructed does, incentivising players to play both to maximise rewards. In theory, after people are done with their constructed climb, they'd shift over to BG to climb that ladder instead. It's a clever way of keeping people playing the game for longer periods at a time.
In theory a rating reset leads to a very diverse matchmaking with everyone back at square one. However, they announced the reset is purely visual and matchmaking rating stays the same. I guess they just like the idea of players not having a single clue on how matchmaking works for them, and moved that from Standard to BG.
Agreed. If it's just visual, there's no point to resetting. It'd be far more fun if they would allow players to truly fall back to 0 again.
Maybe BG is coming out of beta? Maybe they will add rewards with the new patch? Both?

If I recall correctly, this change is purely visual and your actual MMR stays the same. Just like how in Constructed after the ranks reset, you're not playing against Bronze 10 players, you're playing against people that ended the season close to where you did as well, the same applies here.
However, I could be completely misinformed.
