If you've been wondering about the release order of the Heroes in Hearthstone's Book of Heroes, you're in luck! We've got the scoop on which Heroes are coming in the next update and beyond.
As with all datamined information, it may be subject to interpretation and it can always be changed, especially when we're talking about a release time over an entire year.
First, A Word on Book of Heroes
Blizzard hasn't said too much about the remaining Heroes, but here's what we do know.
- We're going to see new heroes released into the adventure over the next year to cover all the base heroes.
- There are some future heroes that do not have new voicelines like Jaina. They will be added in future updates.
Next Up - Nagrand Garrosh
We should be seeing Garrosh arrive in a November game update with his Patch 18.0 datamined skin, Nagrand Garrosh, as our new Warrior replacement.
A much younger version of Garrosh, this was when he was still on Draenor and not the power-hungry Horde Warchief that most know him as today. Here is a picture of Garrosh inside the Nagrand zone in World of Warcraft, when he was Chieftain of the Mag'har.
Soonish - Second War Uther
With Garrosh likely hitting the solo fun in November, our best Paladin bud Uther should be arriving in December. Maybe. It's always possible that due to December being the month of the year where many companies take time off in the second half for the holidays that we end up with a "delayed" content release meaning we could see Uther in January instead. Of course, pure speculation.
The Book of Heroes chapter for Uther will be bringing us the Patch 18.0 datamined skin, Second War Uther. We don't know what he'll end up looking like, but here's some art of Uther that is from the relevant time period that was used in the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game.
Next Year - The Remaining Heroes
Although we don't know for certain the exact release dates, so far Blizzard has been going one hero per month and we expect that to remain somewhat standardized.
- Malfurion - Druid
- Anduin - Priest
- Valeera - Rogue
- Gul'dan - Warlock
- Thrall - Shaman
- Illidan - Demon Hunter
It makes a lot of sense with Illidan being last to arrive when you consider we've already seen his presence in Trial by Felfire and the whole Ashes of Outland Prologue which already details some of Illidan's past. One may even wonder if the Prologue will end up being extended and become a part of the Book of Heroes instead of having an entirely separate campaign for unlocking our warglaive-wielding friend. Book of Heroes makes for such an interesting way to unlock heroes.
That does it for today! Which heroes are you looking forward to arriving in the Book of Heroes adventure the most? Which stories are you hoping to see?

Hey at least we have to wait 5-6 months before we finally get another rogue skin, and it's a reskin. Alright enough joking around. It's interesting that Thrall is the last hero in the book of heroes (from the classes that have been here since launch). Just like how Shamans are on the bottom on winrates in the meta. (alright i'll stop joking around). Thrall is a very important character in WOW and connected with a lot of the heroes, so it's not a big surprice you need to play the other book of heroes in order to play his eventually.
I recently saw a video from Nobbel about Garrosh backstory/lore, and i'm really excited to see how the HS wil integrate that into the book of heroes. i'm honestly more afraid that it will be "another Jaina" because his story is a pretty long one, and might be hard to fit into only 8 fights. (but i do hope the Garrosh vs Jaina at theramore fight we saw in Jaina's book of heroes will be included, except you play as Garrosh instead.) Also i wonder where the Garrosh book of heroes will end, my guess is slightly before that raid where he is the raid boss. (Yet again, i don't play WOW. So i'm just guessing from lore video's i saw on youtube.)
Also i'm really looking forward to Uthers book of heroes. I don't actually know too much about Uther, except for the fact that he teached Arthas, and that he was killed by Arthas, who was corrupted by The Lich King/Frostmourne. I wonder if the Uther book of heroes will end with "Uther gets killed by Arthas, and his soul (As we now know) partially absorbed into Frostmourne." That would be a unique twist to the book of heroes, as none of the other book of heroes ended like this yet. Either way Uthers book of heroes will probably include a bit of Arthas action.
Thanks Flux, this is what I was looking for :)
So wait were getting even more Illidan backstory? Was ashes' prologue, not enough?
The Prologue was all about how he got imprisoned, so the Book of Heroes Story is probably about the time after he escaped.
In fairness, the tiny snippet of the War of the Ancients in the AoO prologue barely scratches the surface of Illidan's story. If you actually want to know who he is during the events of the actual Warcraft games, I would say those missions were nowhere near enough.
Wherever you stand on that, at least he's been put at the back of the queue so he's not getting in the way of those whose stories have not yet been told at all.
That's actually quite a fair point Illidan is one of the heroes I don't know much about so I figured what we got in ashes was all there was to him. But yeah it makes sense that he would be the last to get his book since we do already have some lore about him.
Does this mean we aren't getting other single player content until Book of Heroes is done? That kinda sucks...
I'm expecting to see more single-player content, but definitely nothing that would be an adventure. Hopefully, they can bring back a dungeon run or some new form of content
Yeah, I loved the dungeon runs! It's so fun to build those decks!
I wonder if the hero portrait for Garrosh will has his ponytail or not
i will say he will have it to show character development from his early days to now.
