Hearthstone Game Designer Dean Ayala has asked the question - which Warcraft theme do you want as an upcoming expansion?
The question is asked because the Hearthstone team is going to begin brainstorming a future expansion in the next couple of weeks. Let us, and him, know in the comments below!
Quote From Dean Ayala Happy to see the teaser for the next expansion out! We're going to start brainstorming another future expansion in the next couple weeks. If you could choose any Warcraft setting or expansion theme you wanted, what would you pick?
Pandaria
Yo, Dean, can we get Pandaria?
Admittedly, it is a huge expansion with lots of different flavors across the board, but I think an expansion with a broad scope could be interesting. There are lots of different types of creatures are native to the land which makes for some great variety in cards; The Pandaren, Cloud Serpents, Hozen, Mantid, Jinyu and must importantly, the Sha. Sha of Anger would make an awesome neutral legendary!
You could do a Dungeon Run based on Nomi and The Tillers' Sunsong Ranch.
- A themed run which has you defeating farm invaders starting with the tiniest of adorable, evil bunnies.
- Flavorful treasures which are themed as ingredients you are adding to your deck. (Drawing the Chili Pepper activates a board clear and shuffles it back in for later discomfort)
- Play as the different tillers, with some new faces as well, to represent all the classes. (Who knew Illidan taught that young Panda the arts of Demon Hunting?)
- Did Bob seriously setup a new Tavern?
I won't go much more into it, but if you can't tell, I'd love another Dungeon Run (or even better, something similar but with more to it).
A Return to Northrend?
I will also settle for something in Northrend again, but with a larger focus on the titans. The Forge of Wills, characters like Loken, Thorim, and Freya, and all the little titan-forged. It gives you the perfect opportunity to explore Ulduar as an adventure! Also, who wouldn't want to see Yogg make a return thx?
Seriously though, what does everyone want to see?
Comments
Next expansion based on Barrens Chat confirmed.
I'd like an expansion focusing on tauren or draenei. They're the least explored races in Hearthstone.
I'd also love a Caverns of Time set with callbacks to previous expansions (far enough from now that it doesn't step on Rise of Shadows). All ten classes could get a set of cards "from the past", bringing back an expansion each.
In general, I'd like another "no-plot" expansion like GvG, where they have the freedom to add whatever.
Honestly, I would love to see expansions covering some of the more popular classic dungeons or battlegrounds.
I remember going through and playing Zul'Farrak over and over doing the zombie runs as well as sneaking into Alliance territory and going to help twinks get Van Cleef gear for 19 Warsong Gulch. These are some of my favorite times.
I get that there are hints here and there for dungeons in evergreen and even some legendaries based on these *cough cough Edwin VanCleef cough cough*. But an actual expansion based on one or even a couple of the old school dungeons would be fun.
Couldn't care less.
Goldshire has some *ahem* fan storylines going on there >.>
I have always wanted to do an Emerald Nightmare expansion! So many twisted versions of places that we have grown to love. Having to kill poor Ysera and Ursoc would be something to pull at our heart strings! Maybe an expansion related to the affects of how burning the Teldrassil Tree of Life started to corrupt the world in some sort of way. (I like druid lore)
I want deep underwater expansion.
Underwater expansion with Naga and Azshara
Being long time away from WoW I would appreciate an expansion in the setting of the Westfall / The Stockade / The Deadmines line for the Defias Brotherhood.
Ever since vanilla Edwin VanCleef is a rogue staple card and Defias Ringleader is roaming around (lately being facelessly summoned from time to time). Additional Defias card has been introduced with the MSG expansion but that was it.
I believe this rather prominent questline in WoW can and should be explored for inspiration of an expansion. Despite doing the questline time and time again in WoW I never seemed to embrace the idea of the Defias actually being the "bad guys", rather as an autonomous entity pursuing their own agenda (vengance to Stormwind nobles (rightfully so) and all that jazz).
I do miss the charm and quality of a well-thought out and engaging questline that was possible back in the ol' days. Scheming, plots and guilleria warfare are all sucker for a memorable resurrection under the robes of a HS expansion.
The setting in WoW have spanned several zones (dungeons included) so there is enough flavor to draw upon in terms of card art (finally Harvest Golem will find its long awaited home), battlefield designs, single player story to tell/play through, as well as a well known Antagonist to chase after.
In the recent expansions the HS team is not intimidated to come up with "modern" takes on classic legendaries, so why not get a new and shiny Eddie or Greenskin options? Also there are plenty of dungeon bosses to turn into meaningful legendaries (Go Cap' Cookie, go - you deserve a real HS card!).
Besides all that - it will be quite the romantic throwback for a lore-addicted oldie like myself :)
Something Troll flavored like Zul'Aman or Zulgurub.
Ulduar or Stratholme should also be something highly appreciated by the community.
They could do the living Stratholme then the dead one >:D
Underground Gnoll society seeking revenge with Mecha-Hogger.
Dean looks like hes missing part of his head on this articles pic.
On topic: The throne of Elements with the 4 elemental lords of Draenor.
I`d say the empire of Nazjatar or even the city of Zin-Azshari before got flooded.
Also liked to see some expansion related with the scourge back in the second war with the events of arthas and invasion of Quel`thalas.
Not really familiar with WoW lore, but a water-themed expansion would be great. Something with Naga and sea creatures would be nice (something other than Murlocs). I guess that could be interesting, also mechanic wise.
"The Open Seas" has great potential for a murloc-centric expansion, something we haven't really gotten in a long long time. There's lots of monsters to draw on from BFA's Island Expeditions, and other huge tentacle-y things present around the main continents. Maybe they could also answer the question of what lies on the dark side of Azeroth?
ESCAPE FROM ELWYNN LET'S GO
Something with Scarlet Crusade / Strat, war of the ancients, or the initial invasion of azeroth by the horde.
Something with the original Scarlet Monastery would be good.
I'd like something Shadowlands related. Partially because it will the the first wow expansion that I won't play, and I do like the vibe of afterlife things.
