God that final fight was frustrating. What the hell is Frenzied Felwing doing in the deck? The opponent has no health, and even though you can attack him (good only for buffing Self-Sharpening Sword), you cannot discount the Felwing. Dead card.
I wish you could select a specific fight to play once you beat it instead of having to play through the entire thing again. I really would like to try that Cho'Gall fight again.
Reading through the comments I see that I was extremely lucky to one shoot all of the heroes, except the last one. The last fight was really nerve wrecking for me, had to try it dozen times, until I finally got it right (big shoutout to YourPrivateNightmare, who gave me the idea of strategy and others, who suggested the Knife Juggler + Toxic Vial trick). I think I´ve cracked the code (although I think there are more ways to solve this) and it worked for me both times (yes, I was crazy enough to do the whole run over again just to repeat the last fight step-by step). Just for the science purposes I´ll do it one last time tomorrow to see if my strategy really works, and if it does, I might post a spoiler for those who are desperate, if required :)
Edit: Okay, third try - third win. Knowing the solution, the fight is not frustrating anymore. Cool idea making this run less RNG and more puzzle like.
I liked this one a lot. Maybe I'm just lucky; Cho'gall only took me three tries. I died a bunch of other times along the way, and while I can see that some of the balance was janky, it's better than battles that are no more difficult than the Innkeeper tutorial. The final battle in particular was a well-crafted puzzle that took me 4-5 tries to get down just right. I was also totally unfamiliar with the story as it wasn't from WCIII or Frozen Throne. Great stuff; right direction.
That skin is so nice. Had I known the last few rogue skins released were going to be so nice I would have chosen a different hero from the battlepass
Challenging, and with a puzzle like element to some fights.
But I agree that if you are going to do that, not sure the RNG of where knives land or destroy random minion works so well.
Still, glad to have done it - but I am glad there isn't a heroic version of some of those fights :)
Posted a spoiler pic for the last fight should you want it during or after the fight.
Recommend saving these hero packs until rotation unless you really need them, then opening them before Barrens packs after it launches.
why open them before barrens? The core set will be free 4 all
So when FitB launches, you ideally would want to open the class packs first, then the barrens packs. I guess it doesn't really make much of a difference, but opening the rogue pack would guarantee some of the rogue cards are from the barrens set.
I made a forum post about this before DF launched: https://outof.cards/forums/hearthstone/hearthstone-general/6352-save-your-class-packs-for-even-more-madness
Oh i read it wrong. I thought you meant before the expansion releases.
There is also the possibility of finding a legendary you don't have, since they seem to be on their own separate "pity timers". Not that it's something to bet on with just 1 pack, but worthy consideration for anyone who buys those bundles.
One upvote to you for reading my mind.... I've also stacked up on all the hero packs so as to open after the next expansion hits !!!
Well, just finished this one and I have to say that that Cho'Gall fight has got to top the charts as one of the most difficult and bs laden battle I've encountered so far in book of heroes. We still have 4 more heroes to go, but lord save us if it can ever top this one.
So what happened exactly? First, your mulligan, draws and your opponent's draws are always 100% the same. Your only wiggle room here is your mulligan, which basically you get to decide on what three cards out of six you will start with. Your opponent has the exact number of removals, and exact play style which will usually end with a turn 11, 12/12 old cthun. The only random aspect (which baffles me, considering that everything else is controlled) is the demon you get when you hp after turning into a demon, which can range between completely useless (flame imp) to extremely powerful (voidlord). That random aspect here is what will decide whether you actually win or lose, because you're basically playing on a timer, with ChoGall's hp doing 2 damage to you every turn. I lost track of the number of times I lost simply because I couldn't race his hp, and considering that ChoGall starts with 100 health, its shirt-rendering to lose one turn too late.
Everything else is really meh. Just steam roll everything because its just how it is. One massive two-headed roadblock that chewed up time and that's about it.
I'm fairly certain this was supposed to be a kind of puzzle. That's why the mulligan and your opponents cards are the same each time. I kinda liked it to be honest.
And this chapter is, honestly, disappointing. Worst BoH gameplay so far.
Similar to Puzzle Lab, but much more dependent on RNG, and feels unfair. I managed to solve them all, now having awful aftertaste :/
This is just my opinion: I really enjoyed this one. I like the fact that these were not easy, the challenge is what makes it fun. I do agree that it straddles the line between challenging and just annoying, but I like that the fixed RNG makes it so that you have to figure out the best play in the situation, and you're not reliant on drawing the right cards. I hated the Gronn fight because if you did not get an explosive trap by the time he played that Troublemaker-esque card, you instantly lose. Same thing goes for not drawing a Gronn Trap, and you have to hope that he doesn't have any hard removal.
However, the one that puts you to 18 health on turn 2 is definitely frustrating. But even in that scenario, it's just like a puzzle: find out which plays sets you up the best for the next turn, and the next, and so on. It's not an excuse for making a completely unfair fight, but I enjoy the feeling of using my resources to the best of my ability to come out on top.
If only it was a puzzle with a good design. But this one isn't.
Garrona is bad not because -12 HP on turn 2, but because it is impossible to win until she draws her entire deck. And if you've stolen the wrong card, all is lost.
Cho'Gall is bad because all depends of random demons, but that matters only after 6th turn, which makes half of the encounter a total waste of time, if you're unlucky on turn 7 or 10 or 14.
And the final one is bad because the order of Shadows in the play is random so none of them can be reliably countered. And again, player is forced to restart, and play same cards each turn hoping the boss plays Shadows in the right order.
I agree with the Garona fight being poorly designed, since the only way I won was by getting Mirror Image from Wand Thief. I had no problem with the Shadows encounter because I figured out a strategy that always gave me the right resources to deal with the shadows, regardless of the order they came out in. It was something along the lines of having both Sabotages, Hooked Scimitar with a bunch of weapon buffs, No Mercy and Blade Flurry and a poisonous Knife Juggler. I helped 5 other people do the encounter, and it worked every time even if the shadows came in a different order.
I won without her drawing her entire deck because I stole her card that does so.
You should be beating her on turn 9 or 10 every time.
I have to say, not including a fight against Onyxia was a bold choice, given it was the culmination of the first 4 fights.
Not including Med'an was... a less contentious choice.
As for the surprise Uncrowned fight: I really liked it. A bit of a puzzle with an air of mystery. It's a shame we couldn't see the Shadows for longer at the end; I barely had time to take in just how chunky Taoshi and Tethys were. No wonder I had to get creative with some poisoned knife juggling!
Spoiler for the shadows (though I barely got to look at them properly like you say):
