What?!? We've got some incredible news for players that have been waiting to pick up some old cosmetics in the Hearthstone shop - over 100 are making a return on June 3!
Blizzard has announced the introduction of a new system that will allow us to purchase older card backs and heroes directly from our collection without needing to wait for a sale in the shop. This won't apply to all card backs and heroes though, some will return at a later date, assumingly once they have been out for a while longer, but with 94 card backs and 11 hero skins coming back, we're bound to find something new to add to our collections.
- Card Backs will cost either 500 or 600 Gold.
- Hero Skins will cost 1200 or 1800 Gold.
To purchase a card back or hero skin from your collection, tap on it under the appropriate tab and click on the purchase button.
Returning Hero Skins
Although Blizzard has not announced all the card backs that are returning, we do have confirmation on the 11 hero skins that will initially be available in Patch 20.4's new gold purchase option.

- Medivh*
- Khadgar*
- Sylvanas Windrunner*
- Lei Shen/Thunder King*

- Sir Annoy-O
Heroes with a * will include their card back as well.
Are you going to be picking up any of these heroes?
Comments
is there any chance we get Madame Lazul back?
Yes, there is. I think this site has not mentioned it (yet), but it seems that, starting from patch 20.4, expansion pre-orders heroes are going to gradually appear in the in-game shop to be purchased, specifically, Mecha-Jaraxxus and its card back are in sale NOW for 15 bucks (cannot be purchased with gold though).
By the way, does anyone know why some card backs cost 500 gold while others cost 600? Or why do some hero skins cost 1,200 gold while others cost 1,800? What is the reason for these differences? Could someone make a list of the prices for each available card back or hero? (i.e. which card backs or heroes are the cheaper ones and which are the more expensive ones)
I remember the Morgl skin was free back in the day, you just needed to get a friend into hearthstone (cant remember the exact steps). I'm assuming that promotion ended at some point
Nope, that option is currently still available. So either they disable it with the patch or it's just an alternative way for people who don't know how to make a second account can't convince anyone to try out HS.
Why is there an 'or' on the pricing of these stuff?
Are there objectively better skins or card backs that we need to pay just a little bit more for? Not to mention that a skin can be 600 gold apart from one another.
I'd imagine 600g for a cardback is a pre-order cardback.
Expensive heroes are probably ones who come with cardbacks, also.
Waiting room for Mecha-Jaraxxus or N'Zoth.
They were mega bundle preorder skins so doubt they will ever make them available for gold.
Oh, I didn't care if it was gold or money, I just wanted it available for purchase. My wish came true haha.
No Aranna :(
give us a new rogue hero blizzard!
I Assume all of them will be avaliable forever for gold from tomorrow on, Since they don't have said a Limit date, Right?
Let's hope so :/
It is kind of funny that while Ben Brode was in charge, they could never find a way to get missed cardbacks to players, but Dean said fuck it and just put them in the shop for gold lol
The whole point of Ben Brode's era was to recognize old players. It's like a badge of appreciation for playing the game. Now those old cardbacks are worthless, since everyone can have it. In today's era the goal is to drain everyone's gold so they need to buy packs when expansions arrive.
I'm not a fan of people saying "We didn't got X during the Brode Era". Like yeah, there are probably some things Brode probably was against, but some people (not direcetly tarketing you) are acting as if there were no new features during that time. I mean, just think of Tavern Brawls, Arena, standard/wild, Adventures, 3 Expansions per year, Quests, Hero Cards, Events, Dungeon run(s) and more. Brode definetely wasn't against innovative new things.
It's also not like the dev team instantly started making all those features once Brode was gone. The reason why the content output improved so much is actually relatively simple: Because the HS dev team increased a lot. I can't remember the source anymore, but I'm 99.8% sure that the dev team currently contains of around 100 people which is twice as much as it was during the WW. They would have never done things like: Battlegrounds, Reward Track, mercenaries etc. without slowing down the card releases if they still "only" had 50 devs, even if Brode would have left earlier. The same also goes for low priority features like buying skins directly with gold, though monetization certainly plays an role there.
I know this reply went a bit off-topic, but it just annoys me when people(again, not directly targeted at you) act as if Brode was "bad" for the game without considering the other factors.
Sry, but I just had to say this at some point. I hope this didn't came agross as agressive or something like that.
It's also worth mentioning that while Brode was the public face of HS, and the dude chiefly responsible for making the game, he wasn't actually the dude in charge until the end of 2016, when he was promoted to Game Director - he left Blizzard in early 2018, about 16 months later.
Guess my years of being unique with my Khadgar hero are over :')
Well it's been in the store for either money or gold twice before this already so, yes. They've been over for a while.
This is pretty cool, yes, ppl will spend their gold on skins and might want to then buy mini-expansion, or next xpac packs with money, but who cares? We have the option to get the skins and card backs we want, even as f2p, im all for it.
