Even though it's been announced more than half a year ago, we still know little to nothing about Mercenaries, Hearthstone's upcoming game mode. Fortunately for us, social managers at the Blizzard HQs might have clicked a wrong button, and listed the Mercenaries trailer as public on YouTube. While it was obviously changed as private in no time, people were quick enough to snag a few important details.
First of all, u/BoaPharaoh was able to record the entire trailer: while it does not contain any gameplay highlights, it is still relevant for us!
But that's not all: we have the video's description too! In fact, u/Pealover was quick enough to take a screenshot, which contains a couple of juicy information:
- Hearthstone Mercenaries will launch on October 12, around a month and a half from now.
- Mercenaries will be and RPG-based and roguelike game mode, which corresponds to what we already know.
Finally, we have a new art, showcasing a handful of well-known characters:
- Varian, King of Stormwind, Cariel Roame and possibly Jaina Proudmoore are shown at the bottom, surrounded by light.
- Lady Prestor and Kazakus are shown above them, in front of a two-headed dragon.
- The background is made of many characters' silhouette - while not all of them are recognizable, the one above the dragon's right head seems to be King Krush. Are they the Mercenaries we will be able to play in the future?
As far as we know, most of Team 5 has been incessantly working on Mercenaries for the last few months: based on Iksar's words, it's going to be a very large game mode, hence all the work needed to get it ready.
Comments
Was just about to comment this, nice to see Kazakus' dragon form becoming canon
Always was LUL
There's High Inquisitor Whitemane above the dragon's left head.
Looks like Thrall above the last E in hearthston
I thought about it, but I am not a WoW expert and I remembered that Confessor Paletress is pretty similar, so I just avoided mentioning it.
To be fair, that stuff is too attached to Whitemane in terms of look. Me having HotS experience also helps, and also the fact that Whitemane's silhouette on the art is pretty much her pose in her card.
Completely forgot about this game mode 🤣
Least there's something to look forward to and take our minds away from the abysmal state of Standard
That's a neat trailer!
Hold on. I think I see Morgl, the oracle. The only Mercenary I would ever need <3
I'm so excited for this.
Sounds like it's likely coming out with or near the Stormwind mini-set based on timing. I was wondering why I had a notification pop up on my phone with the video but was then unable to watch it. Thanks for clarifying what happened there.
Nah. It's too rearly for the miniset, it will be probably launched in the beginning of the of the november
Forged in the Barrens came out March 30th, and the Wailing Caverns 9 weeks (and two days) later on June 3rd.
Stormwind was released on August 3rd. 9 weeks after that is October 5th.
I don’t think we can predict an exact date for the mini-set, but early to mid-October sounds right.
Actually, I predict the UiS mini-set will launch on the 7th of Oct, reason being is every mini-set launch (so far) is on a Thursday and 65 days after the expansion release. (Work out DMF and FitB if you don't believe me). This would also make sense as Blizzard has learnt from past mistakes when releasing standard content and a new gamemode together (Dungeon run being the example). So Blizzard would space out their content releases like they've done with Battlegrounds and Duels.
but releasing a mini-set so close to a new "premier way to play, like Constructed and Battlegrounds", doesn't seem like a smart move. The mini-set would totally go under most peoples radars if that's the case. That's also why both Duels, Battlegrounds and every single pve mode after Dungeon run released either 3-4 weeks before or after a major content update.
