Cookie the Cook is a legendary card because... ¿?
Because he is a Legendary character!
Well, on one hand I'm kinda happy this miniset seems to be pretty ass overall. Get to save up some gold for the next actual expansion and we're not getting insane power creep and OBVIOUS brokenness like we did with the last one. On the other hand, this miniset sucking will likely result in poor sales, which will motivate the team to do "better" next time. And by better I mean it's gonna be power-crept to all hell from now on.
Or I might be wrong and this miniset is busted and I just don't see it yet.
Well, these are underwhelming. I probably won't buy this mini-set, gonna save my gold for the next expansion. There are very few cards in this mini-set that excite me, and I can just craft them since the usable ones are just rares and commons (and Mr. Smite, probably; I'll get free dust when he inevitably gets nerfed).
United in Stormwind remains the worst expansion in the game's history due to the number of un-fun archetypes you get to face, and this mini-set might not change that anytime soon.
I really fucking hate pirates.
Mr. Smite is a great standard card. I don't think it will see play in pirate warrior though. You would rather spend your turn 6 playing a 1 mana pirate and Rokara instead. There's a reason why the deck doesn't even play Leeroy. Interesting interaction with Captain Hooktusk though.
Edwin, Defias Kingpin is a perfect example of the kind of cards that I like. Cards that doesn't seem powerful unless you dig deep to find their true potential. I know I'm gonna spend the rest of the week toying with this card.
Goliath, Sneed's Masterpiece salivates all of the custom card creators because now you can have a card target multiple things.
I initially thought Cookie the Cook's effect was a battlecry and I thought it was decent. But it's a deathrattle instead so it's less good but it's still fine.
actually, there are version of Pirate Warrior that are running Leeroy, i can see those cuting him in favor of Smit
God, this is awful. Those cards are uber boring. Not hyped at all for this miniset.
Do you wanna Charge? Do you wanna fight?
Do you want a card that will insta-fright?
Take up some Armor and keep the SMOrcing in sight
'Cuz you'll want to introduce them to Mr. SMITE!
Crap Guide to hearthstone
I will not buy the complete mini set. The only legy I am interested in is Mr. Smite.
For the commons and rare cards I kept a handfull of packs.
As some other users allready said: Mr. Smite could be a nerf target. He is so good I even consider to test him in 1-2 Wild decks.
I think Edwin is very mediocre in standard but worth considering running in a deck that runs a lot of cheap cards in wild. The immediate deck I thought of when I saw it was Kingsbane, which already has some pirate synergy and runs a lot of 1 cost cards. Smite is a little absurd IMO for the current standard meta... worth noting that the pirates summoned by warrior's quest reward are summoned at the start of your turn and will benefit from Smite. Cookie does not seem awful for wild. People run the toxifin+aoe Murloc combo often in control decks so I can see this being a good general anti-aggro tool that also helps to clear the board. Sneed seems mediocre simply because of the cost. It does set a unique precedent in being able to choose multiple targets unless I am misinterpreting the card.
Its amazing how underwhelming Edwin, Defias Kingpin looks compared to Mr. Smite, who might as well be a thinly disguised Leeroy, and will be in just about any aggro deck simply because its a 6 mana deal 6, which in standard currently is about as good as it gets. On top of this, if the juggernaunt ever spawns him for free, that's basically an instant win out of rng's bum.
Sneed is interesting. But a tad expensive, and is existing in a meta where people dont play much minions. Still, its at least an interesting take, considering the words "you choose the targets". Might be revolutionary in terms of UI for hearthstone.
Cookie is just fine. A good murloc for any occassion.
I didn't see anything that made me want to buy the set.
Me either, but at 2000 gold with guaranteed legendaries, these mini-sets are always a solid value.
Smite might be a nerf target, so you'd be getting your investment back. All the other legendaries are playable at the very least (and might be a lot stronger in the future). In order to get all the commons and rares you'd still have to spend a decent amount of gold on packs so it's better to buy (with gold) than to try and get it from packs (at least not unless you commit to never crafting any of the legendaries)
Not even the 1600 dust from Mr. Smite nerf?
If Mr. Smite didn't give himself Charge, he wouldn't be a big deal. You would need a lot more mana to get any benefit from the aura. But he does have Charge which makes him a viable finisher with an upside. I'm not particularly impressed by any of the other cards. The Murloc is okay. It can provide a bit of healing for a Murloc deck but it isn't all that special. The mech is okay for removing stuff and leaving a big body behind but doesn't look like the kind of card that is going to have any impact on the meta. And the new Edwin seems interesting for a miracle style deck with a lot of cheap cards but he doesn't look as capable of winning games early as old Edwin. This miniset doesn't look interesting or strong enough to put a stop to the dominance of Quest decks so i don't really see anything changing (other than Quest Warrior becoming a much bigger player).
You're missing a couple of things on Smite. First, you can roll him from the Juggernaut. That's already huge, getting a 6/4 body for free that gives everything you drop from your hand charge.
Secondly, he affects cards that get rolled from Juggernaut, so worst case scenario you get 8 charge damage on board, best case you get 11
If he didn't give himself charge he would be a worse Tundra Rhino (a notoriously awful card despite a technically insane effect).
The only problem (if there even is one) is that his stats are too big, specifically his attack. That being said, if he does become a problem they'll probably just shave 2-3 attack off him and he'll be fine. 6-mana is no joke, especially when games can end on turn 7.
