The mercenary rogue's search for the truth will lead him to the depths of the Stormwind Stockade and an unlikely ally. Together they must escape and race to the Deadmines where a band of pirates led by the rebel Edwin VanCleef seek to smuggle the gathered shards of naaru out of Stormwind. So much for alternating between Horde and Alliance. I guess that wouldn't allow them to tell the story the way they wanted to tell it. Though I am wondering if that unlikely ally is a certain Blood Elf. I'm still barely anywhere through Cariel's book, so no spoilers.
My comments with obvious storyline spoilers
Looks like Scabbs drew the short straw I guess, so let's just dogpile him with all the other characters.
Its kinda like they know this is the last one before the next expansion and so contrived a way for everyone to be in Alterac, no matter how dumb the idea seems. I mean, why the hell is Cariel, Kurtrus, and likely lich tamsin even in Alterac when their respective arcs have been completed? In any case, why is Kurtrus even here, in the story no less, when demon hunters aren't particularly interested in anything that's not related to the legion. Or are we just going to let this slide?
From a story standpoint, Scabbs has uncovered Lady prestor as the mole, and should technically be motivated to stop her. Wouldn't he, you know, just bring the damn letter to someone like Bolvar, or even just Varian or Anduin? Instead, his idea is to chase after the shards, because apparently everythings going to end if the shards were reassembled. But honestly, if Azeroth survived the cataclysm, Sargeras, and loads of other stuff - why would anyone even bat an eye if a Naaru was reassembled?
All in all, Scabbs was never one of the more popular mercs from the start of barrens. This adventure changes no opinions, and may have even subtracted from it.
That was plot twist after plot twist. I enjoyed the history, specially emoting against Cookie
This one felt a bit....rushed? I mean, I understand it's just supposed to move the plot forward and set up Alterac, but the whole Deadmines fights felt kind of...lacking in personality.
I guess we're gonna be seeing Vanessa again in the coming expansion.
Hidden in case people don't want accidental spoilers:
Yeah, it was a bit of a shame really that Scabbs got swamped by all the other characters in the deadmines, to the point where they kind of hijacked his story for the sake of a big team-up. I mean, yeah, I guess he was leading that endeavour, but when you're mostly just playing the other mercs it doesn't feel like it's his mission anymore.
The whole team-up is also at odds with the whole horde vs alliance 'pick a side' thing they're leading with in Alterac Valley. At the end of Scabbs' story, I'd expect them all to be helping each other out to deal with the naaru shard problem, not fighting each other.
I doubt Vanessa will be another card, but yeah, she'll surely make a brief appearance in the next story, whoever's that is.
