If this calendar year has given us anything of note with regards to Hearthstone, it's clearly the notable official recognition of Nozdormu the Eternal and its special qualities as a card, eventually followed by the in-game quest we all know by now (and if not downright love, then perhaps at least begrudingly appreciate). And yes, it's still a little strange how it's just a Daily in disguise replacing a regular task in the Quest Log every month, but we will take every bit of extra XP we can get for that freshly minted Alterac Valley Rewards Track.
Currently active in all regions, the speedy quest will maintain some extra flavor throughout this expansion, possibly assisting some fortunate challengers in accumulating their Honor gains just a tad faster.
Move Along Now, The Year is Ending
Nozdormu the Eternal makes for an integral part of the Core set, always there when you need to practice your speed Hearthstone skills:
- As long as you have one quest slot open come server reset in your region on the 15th of each month, the Nozdormu quest will replace your regular quest of the day. It grants a lot more bonus XP, making it a worthwhile pursuit!
- This quest can also be rerolled away for a typical lesser one, if you really can't stand it. But Nozdormu will be very sad, and you will lose out on your precious Rewards Track XP.
- In order to be eligible, simply remove a non-crucial card from one of your favorite decks and replace it with Nozdormu the Eternal. It's not like anyone remembers to switch back after they're done.
- Queue up for a game with your 'new' deck in any relevant game mode of choice and hopefully encounter another player with Nozdormu in their deck, then have fun playing 'Speedstone'!
- You don't necessarily have to complete the quest as soon as you get it (it will actually remain in your log until refreshed), but there will likely be far fewer people trying to do the same later on.
- Winning or losing doesn't really matter for the quest completion, and opponents don't need to have Nozdormu the Eternal in their decks for it to count on your side - but just like with any other 'Play 3 games' quests, instant conceding won't work for progress.
If you're trying to take your blitzing semi-seriously and not just queue up and go AFK for a while as the quest completes itself in a way, then as usual we recommend going for any decks that aren't reliant on long combos or multiple actions in a single turn. Simplicity is the key, so any flashy animations or Discover choices aren't particularly desirable (unless you happen to have lighting speed reflexes). 15 seconds is all you get!
Finding somebody who also put Nozdormu the Eternal into their deck isn't such a common occurrence nowadays, especially on Ranked ladders (it's only 3 games per month for most players, after all). You can consider yourself quite lucky when you do, and should enjoy those turns storming by - at least it's possible to tell whether the effect is in play as soon as the mulligan phase wraps up.
The Current Honor Event & Tavern Brawl
The ongoing Tavern Brawl is no good for our dear old Nozdormu the Eternal - Legendary cards need not apply. But perhaps something more fitting will take its place later today at the designated hour (update: nope, nothing useful in there either).
Since most people are currently after every bit of Honor they can get (it does require a whole lot of games to be played), it's worth pointing out again that neither Brawls nor Casual Mode count towards that goal. Perhaps no better time than to hope for some 'Speedstone' on Standard or Wild ladder. If you wish to stay relatively safe, pick the mode you don't usually play - there is nothing to lose (well, except some MMR) when at those Bronze ranks. Hovering near Ranked floors has more or less the same effect.
Nozdormu Day Decks for December 2021
'Freezedormu', 'Troggzdormu', Pirate Noz? As always, Nozdormu the Eternal can fit just about anywhere. Pick your flavor, we will focus on a few suitable Standard decks below:
Just about anything goes on the Wild side of things, depending on your card collection. The current expansion isn't exactly dragon focused, and there is still that deck our community member Trimutius has shared a few months ago, in which Nozdormu the Eternal actually plays a more prominent role rather than simply accumulating style points for potential speed.
Have any other favorite decks where Nozdormu the Eternal simply belongs? Do you just get your quest done as quickly as possible or dare to hunt for more speedy Honor matches alongside Noz? Let us know whether you've had any luck queuing into other Nozdormus in any game mode for the last time in 2021!
Comments
3/3 in casial standard. But the last one wanted to lose fast. I played some Burgle Rogue and won the other two games, too.
Played the (filthy, disgusting) Facedormu Hunter deck. Never procced Noz in any game, won once, and did not have fun :/ I feel dirty just touching an Aggro deck; yuck.
I will say that using Aimed Shot on my own face to bypass Cloak of Shadows for lethal was the high moment, but the rest was dumb.
Great games to end the year. All played in ranked standard.
Playing N'Zoth, God of the Deep Commencement Warrior with Noz.
1st Game Vs Questline Priest w/ Nozdormu. I got to them too fast with Clockwork Giant. Put up a great fight but had to use alot of removal early as I cheated them out. Finished off with Troll Centurion honorable kill.
2nd Game Vs Hand Lock. Fast Giant again set them off balance. By the time they had Tickatus corrupted they were dead.
3rd Game vs Elemental Shaman with a Nozdormu. I had a bad starting hand and they were very aggressive. Got me down to 1hp despite my clearing as much as possible. Lucky Commencement into Mo'arg Forgefiend almost wasn't even. Heavy Plate andLokholar the Ice Lord won me the game.
2 out of 3 games with Nozdormu the Eternal in ranked. So fun! Forgot it even was the 15th, thanks for the reminder.
2 out of 3, I haven't seen that in a while. I need to borrow your ladder variety.
I wonder why I even bother with other decks. The Nozdormu Face Hunter that I haven’t changed since Forged in the Barrens just won me three ladder games for the second month in a row. One of them was against a Nozdormu opponent. Best of all, all three were 40 Honor kills.
