Mercenaries is getting a big update in today's patch which makes a change to how coins are obtained after completing high level heroic bounties.
The change makes it so that when you finish a level 30 Heroic Bounty, you will always get at least one pile of legendary coins. This legendary coin pile will come from that bounty's pool of Mercenaries, each bounty can only award coins for certain mercs, which will make increasing the power of our harder to obtain mercenaries quite a bit easier once the high-level grind on the heroic bounties starts.
If you want to find out which bounties have coins for each mercenary, you can visit our bounties database to look up individual bounties or sort them by which ones "has loot for" your favourite characters.
This change goes live with the patch, which is happening any minute now, so once your client gets updated you can expect these guaranteed rewards. Which bounties will you be farming?
Quote From Blizzard All Heroic Level 30 Bounties will now include at least one pile of Legendary Coins (chosen from the selection of Coins designated for each Bounty) as part of their Bounty completion rewards.

Nice change, better late than never. Hope they keep doing changes like this one.
But there was another big change they said NOTHING about: it used to be that if they couldn't find you an appropriate match in the Fighting Pit within a minute or so, they would pair you with a similarly-leveled AI (which was great, cuz you can beat the AI easily most of the time). That is no longer the case! Twice now I've had to wait over 4 minutes for a match, only to have my ass handed to me by a much more powerful band of mercs. I am PISSED.
It's part of the MMR rating adjustments we have covered a little while ago, and yes, it's far from perfect currently. I've had the same happen to me several times. Very frustrating. The system is keeping our internal MMR from season 1 in mind and not applying other factors correctly. Should you lose several times more than you win, you might still eventually start seeing the A.I. opponents again (as usual, better chance without a full team of lvl 30 Mercs). On the upside, you also now get a lot more rating for wins than previously so people manage to climb a lot higher than before.
They didn't change this, I just played a match against AI
Make sure you're under 7000 rating AND use low level mercs/low level abilities/unequip any gear.
Is there a reason why this isn't just applied to all bounties across normal and heroics? Almost looks like team5 submitted the change document only for it to be watered down at the end by management.
I mean seriously, some of the heroic bosses aren't easy to grind without a strong team, and arguably changes like these should be aimed at helping those without better collections.
Its still just easier to grind up strangers, or better yet, just solo one merc up on heroics barrens level 1 for that guaranteed 10 coins you need in 5 min, rather than suffer through a 30 min run of which you may or may not succeed to beat.
So all in all, a nice change that will likely end up doing absolutely nothing, not to veterans or newcomers.
"some of the heroic bosses aren't easy to grind"
=> that's the point of the change, making you spend more time playing the game in the hopes of getting some legendary coins. It's Blizzard we're talking about here
not a big deal, not at all!
Too little, too late.
you are acting as if this is the last change they are making to the mode. Keep in mind that it will have a similar update cycle to Battlegrounds, so you can expect 1 big patch that focuses on Mercenaries per Expansion.
Stuff like this and duplicated coins are design issues that should have been addressed during the stupid amount of time that they spend developing the mode.
And they havent fixed the second one yet.
This dosn't even come close to an update in my book.
As someone who plays way more MErcenaries than he should...I don't think this changes much. This only affects lvl 30 bounties aka Winterspring and above, which are all much more difficult to grind (both in terms of length and difficulty). Unlike the Felwood bounties, even with a good party you still are very much subject to getting unlucky and just losing a run on the last couple fights which is a huge drawback compared to the regular bounties that are much more reliable to complete. This only really seems to help those who are only target farming a specific merc and have nothing else to do. Everyone else is still better off doing normal bounties while farming Mysterious Stranger.
Killing heroics bosses is easy, getting to them can be tricky. Still I think they should make this for all bounties
Great! It was jolly frustrating going into bounties with the sole purpose of getting coins for a specific Merc but not making any progress at the end. It's not so bad with Mercs you already own since there are other reliable ways to get their coins, but it sucks when trying to grind coins to craft new ones.
