Just as it held true for every other expansion since the introduction of this modernized version of the Rewards Track system (as we don't really acknowledge that initial flawed implementation) with Forged in the Barrens, two chosen Legendary cards from the latest Voyage to the Sunken City set were exempt from the usual duplicate protection rule: non-Diamond versions of Sir Finley, Sea Guide and Golden version of Ambassador Faelin.
Normally, regular Ambassador Faelin would be our first Uncraftable reward from the current Rewards Track, whereas Diamond Sir Finley, Sea Guide goes to Tavern Pass holders. But those options are never available when the pre-release Fireside Gatherings take place, making it possible to pull copies of such cards from early pack openings. Pretty much the same thing happens whenever anyone rushes straight for their packs at launch day, without claiming any of the Uncraftables first. As some of you might've just done yesterday!
Disenchanting for Full Value
So it's nice of the Hearthstone team to leave us that possibility of disenchanting said cards for full dust value, just in case. But it feels like we've usually had more time to decide with all these previous expansions - alas, for one reason or another the dust refund window has been set to be particularly short this time around. If you never read the fine print, it was fairly easy to miss the notice:
Sir Finley, Sea Guide and Golden copies of Ambassador Faelin will [be] eligible for a full dust refund until April 13, at 10 a.m. Pacific.
For quick reference: that is 19:00 CET, 13:00 EST, and (for April 14) 02:00 KST. Not a whole lot of time left!
You might wish to check your collection. Maybe even grab that free Random Legendary card at Level 20. And if you happen to be opening packs after that designated end time, be careful (better make sure you've collected the Uncraftable versions of these cards from the Rewards Track by then, so the proper duplicate protection is in order).
We are unsure what happens at that exact hour or whether this window might yet somehow become extended - but you don't want to miss out on the opportunity if said cards suddenly return to their regular dust value at a moment's notice.
If you got your regular or golden Sir Finley, Sea Guide but don't plan to buy the Tavern Pass, it's a simple choice: either keep it or just "exchange" it for any other Legendary card of your choice while the full dust value is in effect. It won't be possible to do so later, after all.
Other Refundable Cards
Curiously enough, the pair above aren't even the only two cards currently eligible for full dust refunds. We had this little change to Unstable Evolution, and Pandaren Importer recently became the victim of an unfortunate adjustment.
The main difference in this case is there still being a week and a week and a half, respectively, on their disenchantable value. Which means we should get another chance to remind everyone once we are closer to that point.
Refund Command in the Collection Manager
The option has been with us for a good while now, but it never hurts to mention one of our favorite quality of life improvements.
By typing 'refund' in the card collection search box, you are able to easily locate the cards in question and decide whether or not to pull that disenchanting trigger. Just make sure to also tick the 'Golden' filter in order to view these copies of the cards.
If you press the 'crafting' button, the game will also show you any 'refundable' cards that you currently do not own, which can be useful - say if you never wanted to pull Sir Finley, Sea Guide from your packs in the future, you could craft it while this window lasts and then immediately disenchant for full dust value right after; which technically should trigger that lasting duplicate protection.
Quote From Blizzard Searching “Refund” in the Collection will now populate with cards eligible for a dust refund.
P.S. Sometimes you may encounter a rare bug where refundable cards don't show as such or don't display full arcane dust returns, even though the refund window is still active. Always restart your Hearthstone client and double check again in such cases.
How was your early pack opening haul? Tavern Pass or not? Found either versions of these cards, or just settled on picking up Uncraftable copies as soon as possible?
Comments
I'm pissed about the short window for refund. I assumed we'd have a week at least, and didn't prioritize dusting it cause I just wanted to play. But now it looks I'll have both a golden and non-golden Faelin. Is there a way to reach out to Blizzard about that?
You can definitely try your luck with customer support, and even comment on Twitter and/or Reddit for any watchful developer eyes just how disappointing this whole situation has been. It's not like it would've hurt them to give us a few more days.
Has there been any official comment about the bug for Classic decks?
For those who are not aware, all your decks for the Classic format were converted to Wild format yesterday. Moreover, all the cards in a decklist appear as banned, so you can't even copy it. The only way is to recreate each deck manually.
I believe there was a note, will look into going over that. Thanks for letting us know!
A work around if anyone needs it: If you have a deck tracker you likely can copy the code from that and then go in to make anew deck. It should paste in the Classic deck, then delete the old one that is bugged.
How do you recreate it? Because i tried, and only let me create standard and wild, thre is no opction to create/convert to classic
I just follow the usual process to create a Classic deck:
TY!!! It Worked
That really is a super short window. Not even 24 hrs after launch?! I was on right at launch with the day off work, got golden Sir Finley as one of my random bundle legendaries. So really my bundle legendaries were one golden and pick two regular legendaries since I planned on grabbing the pass.
Same but with Faelin lol. I put in a ticket asking them if I could get it refunded since I was like 4 hours outside of the window at the time that I saw this article
Hope they come through for you. I mean to ask the devs on Twitter to at least consider an extension, sounds like many of us didn't exactly stand much of a chance to react.
Well, their final response was "we have no way to grant you any sort of compensation and if you keep messaging us we'll punish you" so I've just put in a BBB complaint. Guess they have no interest in taking care of users.
That's too bad, I was hoping for a happy ending. This has been so very poorly handled by Blizz. It's a shame when the responders don't even have the power to be actually able to do anything useful.
Well, first response was basically a copy paste message saying "sorry GMs don't have anything to do with development or patch notes please submit your feedback through this form" and didn't address the actual request at all, so I guess I'll see tomorrow.
EDIT: Second attempt was "sorry we can't grant you dust" so I asked them to escalate
Yeah, this has to be a mistake by Blizzard. I haven't even opened my packs yet and I wouldn't be surprised if there are other people that need to login, open packs, and buy the tavern pass.
That's great to see you got a golden finley though. That's the ultimate value!
