Darkmoon Races Update! Took out Greenskin and 1x Stage Dive for 2x Nitroboost Poison
Been holding onto a Golden Hack the System since Ul'dum with nowhere to put it? Well do I have the solution for you!
Hack The Opposition takes a quicker more tempo-oriented look at Hack the System, forgoing slower weapon cards like Armored Goon and Reaper's Scythe for more aggressive counterparts like Imprisoned Gan'arg and Steeldancer. The deck aims to fight for the board against aggressive decks, overwhelm Control decks with Golems from the quest, and steal victories from big/midrange decks with E.T.C.
Key Cards
It's a Quest deck and here is the Quest, I would put Sky Gen'ral Kragg and Questing Explorer here but it's assumed that if you're running a Quest deck you're running those. After you finish the quest your Hero Power summons a 4/3 Golem, and then it refreshes whenever you attack, this essentially means you'll be getting a near endless supply of 4 Mana double 4/3s in the end game. It's guaranteed that you'll run any opponent out of clears, however you still have the problem of dying. Instead of filling the deck with Control tools to outheal aggro, this deck aims to just kill faster decks first. The Golems do help in the kill your opponent gameplan, don't mulligan the Quest if you think you're against another tempo deck. Just getting 4 or so Golems out can seal the deal against some faster decks.
Build a board while you remove some of their minions with your face. Great card.
And to a lesser extent Captain Greenskin allow you to turn your weapons into a load of extra damage or extra Lackeys with the Lance. It's also really nice to complete the quest with a weapon equipped so you can double Golem immediately after, Upgrade effects help with that.
Absolute aggression powerhouse, after putting two of these into my deck I went 12-0 from Diamond 5 to Diamond 2! The card provides quick and easy damage while also rendering your Cutting Class free and beefing up your Steeldancer. A fantastic inclusion to this deck and any tempo Warrior deck for the foreseeable future.
E.T.C. is the ace up the sleeve. He can easily provide a ton of burst from nowhere with Animated Broomstick. Especially great against decks which can create insurmountable pressure, Druid in particular. Always consider holding onto Lackeys, each lackey can double as 2-4 damage when comboed with Broom and E.T.C. There's not much to say but don't underestimate the burn you can get from E.T.C., I even added Stage Dive to the deck to support him and the broom. Important Note for calculating lethal with E.T.C., remember that minions who can already attack face still trigger his effect if they have Rush. This means your E.T.C. can essentially act as a Savage Roar with a broom.
Even before E.T.C. was out Animated Broomstick was a star player. Combine it with Steeldancer or Golems to be able to immediately react to your opponent's board. Just remember that you might want to save one to combo with E.T.C., but don't get too tunnel visioned onto that combo.
New from the Faire, Sword Eater is just great. I considered running Arathi Weaponsmith in a version of this deck before and did run [Hearthstone Card (Horde Pillager) Not Found], Sword Eater blows them both out of the water. Sometimes you may already have a weapon up but need a taunt, prioritize the Taunt.
This card is so nutty when played early. Just remember that you can end a turn with a 1 Durability weapon and still play the Gan'arg without fear.
Mulligan Tips
Always Keep:
- Imprisoned Gan'arg - Play him on 1.
- Hack the System - It's a quest deck you typically want to keep the quest, I'd say ditch it if you know the opponent is hyper aggro but the golems are game winning against Soul DH and slower hunters so it's real risky.
- Sky Raider - Play him on 1 if you're up against a faster deck. If you have a Gan'arg on 1, play him on 2 with Quest.
- Questing Explorer (If you're keeping the quest which you should most of the time.
Often Keep:
- E.T.C., God of Metal - If you're up against Druid or another deck which can fend off your golems with counter-pressure in the late game.
- Sword Eater - If you have early cards Sword Eater is a fantastic turn 4 play (Even better on 3 with a coin.)
- EVIL Quartermaster - Just a good card if you've got a 1 or a 2 drop.
- Livewire Lance - Good early weapon, keep it most of the time but think about sending it back if you have enough already.
- Sky Gen'ral Kragg - Another good card if you can curve into it.
Maybe Sometimes Keep:
- Stage Dive - If you see yourself being able to slam a Steeldancer on 5 and want to give it rush with Animated Broomstick, consider keeping a Stage Dive. However, you usually shouldn't.
- Steeldancer - Great card in the deck, especially on turn 4, but it's more important to have an early drop or a weapon chain going.
- Cutting Class - Similarly to Steeldancer, it's great if your hand already has everything else it might need.
Extra Notes
- Doctor Krastinov is usually better than Captain Greenskin, but Greenskin being non conditional has won me a single game before when there was nothing to attack. So take that how you will.
- Nitroboost Poison is insane, it's also cheaper and stronger than both Krastinov and Greenskin!
- The deck feels solid overall, but I'm not trying to sell it as a meta breaker or anything, it can fall apart if your hand gets clogged up with too many weapons or too many weapon synergies and no weapons. But that's card games for ya.
- Deathwing, Mad Aspect is a really nice board reset but don't be able to slam him down if your opponent only has a couple of goons. Especially if they're a class that struggles with big minions.
- Remember, you're a deck that wants your opponent dead, so hit them in the face when you can without giving up your board.
- Consider hoarding Lackeys if you think you might need to burst them down with E.T.C., he isn't a throwaway addition, he's a key card in the deck.
- Sometimes you'll have to override a buffed weapon with a Lance to get some lackeys for E.T.C. or to discover something good, it'll feel bad, but that's life.
Update
: Captain Greenskin seems to be too slow for the current meta game. I suggest cutting him for now, maybe another 1 drop, Safety Inspector could help you ditch the quest against super aggro since you like the quest against soul DH but not any other DH. You could also run another weapon or Corsair Cache but that may be too slow. Really wish we still had Zilliax in times like this. Harrison Jones or Kobold Stickyfinger could be nice to tech in as well.
Update 2
With the introduction of Nitroboost Poison it's a no brainer to cut whatever you had in your flex spot to squeeze it in. Although Stage Dive is a powerful card in its own right I suggest cutting 1 copy to fit in a second Nitroboost. Especially since Stage Dive can often whiff if you draw it too late in the match.

I love Hack the System, even though it has never really been super competitive. This looks great and I will definitely give it a try. Bonus points for a great write-up!
Have you considered Hoard Pillager? There's no such thing as too many weapons when you're spamming golems!
Before Sword Eater came out I ran Hoard Pillager. Sword Eater is infinitely better and Hoard Pillager isn't really good if you're only getting back a 3/2 or a Livewire Lance, it's also exceptionally bad against aggro which this deck can already struggle against.
The deck definitely has enough weapons and charges to grind out even the most stubborn of control decks, just be smart with your weapon charges and know when to use them. I've even switched out a 1 durability axe with a lance against some control decks to farm Lackeys for E.T.C. If you really want more swings I think you should look at maybe keeping the easily cuttable Captain Greenskin, maybe even slide in a Doctor Krastinov.
