Intro

Waxadred is a card I immediately fell in love with as it encompassed everything I value in Rogue.  I like deathrattles in general, shuffling as a mechanic is interesting to build around, and I adore infinite value.  Ever since ol' Waxy's release in DoD, I have tried to build a deck around him each expansion.  This latest iteration brings in other large deathrattle friends to win the late game while doing typical Rogue shenanigans to stabilize the early game.

The Meme - Survive the early game and try to spam large deathrattles in the late game.

The Dream - Summon a board of at least 3 Waxadreds and have both players reach fatigue, crushing any and all hope for enemy victory.


Key Cards

Waxadred Card Image- A source of infinite value and effective win-con for only 5 mana, he is the memey lifeblood at the heart of this deck.  

Shadow of Death Card Image- The secondary value generator and conditional game-winner.  Shuffle your Waxadreds, your Khartut Defenders, your Scrapyard Colossus, or something spicy the enemy foolishly left on their board before you Sap it.

Stowaway Card Image - The true enabler of the deck.  Where shuffle effects are typically slow and RNG-based, Stowaway lets you immediately get the value and board pressure from the above cards.

Honorable Mention

Anka, the Buried Card Image - While not integral to the Waxadred operation, Anka is handy in allowing you to play Shadow of Death on normally expensive minions.  She could be cut if you're looking for a budget option, but then you also might want to swap Scrapyard and Khartut for cheaper alternatives.


Budget Options

As just mentioned, Anka, the Buried can definitely be cut for something cheaper without significantly hindering the deck, although it is advised that the Khartut Defenders and Scrapyard Colossus be cut as well.  Ticket Master isn't an awful option, but might muck up Stowaway drawing Waxadred or Shadows. Bone Wraith is a generally decent anti-aggro tool and makes for a desperation Shadow of Death option.

Jandice Barov and Flik Skyshiv are also not integral to the basic plan of the deck and are mostly included as generically useful Rogue cards.  Jandice could lead to some highlight moments where you can Shadow of Death an Earth Elemental or Greybough, but isn't necessary to achieving the meme dream.  Similarly Flik is mainly to help in control matchups, but should be one of the first cards to go if you're running into aggro issues.

Cloak of Shadows was originally a two-of, but ended up not being quite as helpful as I hoped.  If this epic is eluding you, a simple cheap taunt minion could provide a similar stall function. Bonechewer Brawler and the aforementioned Bone Wraith are good budget substitutes.  Brain Freeze and Frozen Shadoweaver are also good considerations thanks to their stall potential. Animated Broomstick also gets a shoutout for being able to mobilize Waxadred or other minions to keep board control.


Matchups

VS Aggro - Definitely the hardest matchup, as aggro generally beats up on most memey decks to begin with.  Thankfully, Rogue has the potential to apply pressure with cheap minions and removal options.  Mulligan for small minions like Pharaoh Cat and Wand Thief which help deal with early pressure and can create additional answers.  Board control is the only important thing here.  Once you get the ability to drop a Khartut Defender and hopefully Shadow of Death it you should be in the clear, but always play cautiously.

VS Control - Probably the matchup you are most likely to win.  Mulligan for your typically good early game, but also keep Waxadred since he is the star of the deck and should be a relatively safe play.  Warrior should be free thanks to Waxadred coming online earlier than Rattlegore.  Also remember that your opponent's minions are valid Shadow of Death targets and could situationally be better than ol' Waxy, such as Rattlegore or the token from Libram of Hope

VS Combo - Easier than aggro, sometimes harder than control.  It might take a while for you to apply lethal pressure to the opponent, so you have to rely more heavily on lucky draws and mulligan.  Definitely keep Waxadred if you know it's a Combo deck, but it can be risky since the premier Combo deck also happens to be in Demon Hunter, which might be giga aggro.  It can be tricky for Combo decks to get rid of your sticky minions, but try to wait out transform or bounce effects.


Conclusion

Few things give me as much satisfaction as seeing Waxadred summoned for the fourth time after my opponent labors to kill it again and again.  Conversely, it is soul crushing to watch poor ol' Waxy disappear under a barrage of Devolving Missiles.  This iteration of Shuffle Rogue is only around for a few more months, so I can't in good conscience recommend anyone craft the key cards.  However, if you have the cards lying around and want to do the Waxadred shuffle one more time before he leaves for the Wilds, I hope this provides a helpful outline for activating his memey potential.
