Envoy Rustwix Quest Greedlock

We experimented with a bunch of different decks to get ridiculous value from Envoy Rustwix, but this deck from one of our viewers, Byss2_, ended up with the best results thus far, ending up with 34 Primes shuffled into our deck! We're making this guide to introduce the deck and provide a link to the highlight game where the 34 Primes were shuffled so you all can take it even further if you like. XD

So, to survive long enough to get ridiculous value, this uses a bunch of early board clears and Soul Fragment shuffle cards (there is anti-synergy between the fragments and the Quest reward, but the healing is still worth it) alongside Aranasi Broodmothers and Plot Twist.

The ideal set up to get absurd value from Envoy Rustwix is to use Felosophy on him (he's the cheapest Demon in the deck, so he'll be guaranteed if he's in hand, unless you discounted a different one with Free Admission) and play 3 Envoys out. Then, your initial Kanrethad Prime from Kanrethad Ebonlocke can bring back 3 copies of him (unless you had to play Aranasi Broodmother or Tickatus), and the whelps from Vectus will be guaranteed to get Envoy's deathrattle for even more Primes.

One questionable inclusion is Archwitch Willow, which we did swap out in another version for a Twisting Nether, but in some games, the opportunity to summon Rustwix onto the board more reliably ends up being better than the drawback of potentially losing Kanrethad Prime, Solarian Prime, or Tickatus' battlecry. But, Twisting Nether worked well in different matchups, so adjust to taste. :D

Hysteria is a great way to clear the opponent's big minions, ensure Rustwix doesn't get devolved/hexed/etc, or get ridiculous healing with Reliquary Prime or Kargath Prime. This deck is crazy fun! If you'd like to see it in action, check out this highlight video at https://youtu.be/AKaWrn6OFgg or below. Have fun experimenting!

With a minor adjustment (swapping out the Archwitch Willow for a Twisting Nether), we had another really fun highlight. If you'd like to see it in action, it's available at https://youtu.be/9gaYKBBQ6fk or below. Enjoy!

I'm really loving this deck! I made a couple subs to shore up the early game, but the core of the deck is really fun to play- soul fragment healing/quest completion has been a breath of fresh air :)

I took out free admission; you pretty much never get the discount, and frankly with all these soul fragments you end up completing the quest much quicker than other versions regardless, which is lovely. I also took out questing explorers, y'shaarj, and archwitch(replaced with twisting nether as suggested)

In their places I added 2 Armor Vendors, 2 Unstable Felbolt, and a Sense Demons to shore up early game.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Those definitely sound like good changes if you're facing a lot of aggro. And, if you're just going to run one of them, Sense Demons might make more sense than Free Admission to improve the chances of Envoy Rustwix early or healing from Aranasi Broodmother.

What about Polkelt for post-quest optimization?

Lorekeeper Polkelt might help us draw into the initial Primes a little faster, but if we manage to play/summon any additional Envoy Rustwix after playing him, our deck will get re-shuffled again as soon as more Primes go into the deck. Still, that could help put the pressure on the opponent to close out the game with the Primes, so perhaps replace a Questing Explorer with him instead of Valdris Felgorge or a Sense Demons? It's not as focused on greed, but it'd be a fun variation of the deck!

This deck tries to do too much IMO.  I tried the "super control" version of this on day one of the miniset and found that Tickatus is the weak point.  His only purpose is to disrupt OTK decks.  Of which there are really only two notable ones.  Mage and DH.  The mage one usually kills you before turn 8 (when you can semi-reasonably expect to play Tickatus) via Mozaki.  The "exodia" mage that made a brief resurgance is actually the less popular of the two tries to draw it's whole deck, so in that one you literally have to play Tickatus on curve otherwise he really does effectively nothing.

Against DH, again it boils down to: Did you draw tickatus? Did you corrupt tickatus?  Were you able to finally play him before the opponent drew all their combo pieces?

Against control/value decks Tickatus shines a *little* better but still isn't an iWin card.  Overall the Tickatus/Y'shaarj just doesn't do enough in this listed deck archetype.  At minimum it needs strongman to be worth the tempo turns (0 cost 6/6 taunt when corrupted, and again when you play Y'shaarj).

Not going to mention felosphy because those are again, greed plays that work with or without tickatus.  I agree that Questing Explorer is just a bad card in this deck, but so is Tickatus.  From mid-december until the miniset released Tickatus saw decent enough winrates to warrant some inclusion.

But now Tickatus is no longer in a positive winrate.  He's too slow, and doesn't do enough. In short: Rustwix decks don't need Tickatus or Y'shaarj to be viable.  But if you do insist on running Y'sharj, Strongman should be an auto-inclusion.

It's true that Tickatus and Y'Shaarj, the Defiler may be too much, especially against the faster decks. I always included them in the initial builds because Cascading Disaster feels like a must include, and if feels strange as a control style deck not to get even more value from them with Y'Shaarj. And then, why not include Tickatus? But, if we cut Tickatus and Y'Shaarj from the deck, we could lower the curve a bit. Though, I am a bit curious, what would you replace them with?

Sense Demons is something I'm wanting to throw in due to the points from SpiritOfJazz, but they probably replace the Questing Explorers. We've already shifted towards including Twisting Nether over Archwitch Willow, so I guess we could toss in a second Twisting Nether in place of Y'Shaarj. Or, is there something better that's missing and would help shore up the deck in place of Tickatus and Y'Shaarj?

As for Strongman, he feels great in Y'Shaarj decks, but aside from Y'Shaarj, we only have one card in the deck that could corrupt him (is what I initially thought), but I just realized that a lot of the Primes would be able to corrupt him... So, in that case, what would you cut to include them?

I absolutely love this deck, For me I swapped the Archwitch Willow for a Twisting Nether as suggested and also dropped the Questing Explorers.

To make up for the early game draw, I upped the late game further by throwing in Valdris Felgorge, which also acts as a Tickatus corruption and of course, gives you bigger hands... and you know what they say about bigger hands... more options each turn.

I also replaced the other Explorer for a Sense Demons, so I can more reliably re-up health with Aranasi Broodmothers, if need be, or tutor out our Tickatus; Envoy Rustwix; Kanrethad Prime; or even the Solarian Primes that may be lurking in there, depending on when you draw this.

I kept finding in several games that I completed the quest long before I saw the Questing Explorers so they seemed like the weakest cards in the deck... so I added more greed.

I just love that feeling when; not only do you destroy that opponent's deck but also have like, 30 more cards left.... mmm so much greeed.

Nice! I love the greed! If you can get away with those changes, they sound great! I really like the Sense Demons to draw the Aranasi Broodmothers or Envoy Rustwix more reliably (and yeah, the Primes later is also great), and Valdris Felgorge is a great way to draw into more Primes to give better options. And yes, I am a fan of the Twisting Nether replacement of Aranasi Broodmother. :D I'm a bit concerned about Token Druids and the other aggro decks, but the Questing Explorers don't help us stabilize too much against them anyways, they do feel bad in the late game, and Sense Demons to heal with Aranasi Broodmothers is a nice way to buy one more turn while cycling. We'll have to try out your version as well!
