Midrange N'Zoth Warrior

Just wanted to share this deck quick because it's been good on my day 1 ladder climb! Haven't lost a game yet (5-0), and it feels strong vs. the field, including Mage. Don't think the list is optimized, but so far it's felt like a faster, midrangier version of Big Warrior, with more midgame threats and more armor gain.

Having said that, I do want to make clear that none of those first five games were against Aggro Druids, so I don't know for sure how well that matchup would go, but in theory, Brawl and/or Bladestorm beats them. I also want to make clear that the reason (and in fact, probably the only reason) this deck can consistently beat Mage is because of Bulwark of Azzinoth. Against Mage, you hard mull for it--the matchup, sadly, really does come down to whether you draw it by the time they play Arcanist Dawngrasp. You have it, you win, because they can't clear your late-game minions. You don't have it, you lose because a Troublemaker throwing a Fireball at the Mage's face doesn't beat the Mage throwing two Fireballs and an Ignite at yours.

A couple tips when playing this list:

  • N'Zoth, God of the Deep, is really only there for late-game matchups against control decks such as Quest Priest, Big Warrior, Quest Shaman, or Celestial Druid. Most of the time, you'll end the opponent either by playing control (against aggro decks) or by playing minions with good stats for the cost on curve (against burn and combo decks).
  • Faceless Manipulator is one of the stars of the deck--it's uber-flexible as either an extra win condition (copying a Troublemaker is debilitating against so many decks) or as extra survivability (copying an armor-gaining taunt is a death knell for aggro, and copying your opponent's large minion to use for Provoke is quite useful as well).
  • Overlord Saurfang is ideally played after the second Kresh, Lord of Turtling dies, but you'll find that you'll very often need to use him for either removal or simply to gain eight armor rather than sixteen.
  • Kargath Bladefist is swappable for a second Rancor--even though Rancor is pretty much dead against Quest Mage, so is Kargath, and he's not indispensible in board-focused matchups since the deck runs Sword Eater in the 4-slot as well.
