Few filmmakers have managed to win over the fans in the way that James Gunn has succeeded. With his "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, he has conquered his very own part of Marvel's ever-growing universe, while at the same time impressing with "The Suicide Squad" with his very child-forbidden DC Comics adaptation.
When he was fired from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" 3 years ago, after some old controversial tweets made him a victim of the cancel culture ... fans, actors and other filmmakers reacted in a way that made him was quickly "rescued" and released back into the community. By now creating an entire spin-off series around the anything but PK-sensitive supervillain / anti-hero "Peacemaker", both Gunn and John Cena seem to enjoy being able to joke about basically anything.
is back in the role as the character we got to know in "The Suicide Squad" last year. The plot picks up just after Peacemaker wakes up in the hospital and this time he is forced into the secret operation "Project Butterfly" - which is in need of his will to create peace at all costs. You know, no matter how many men, women and children he has to kill to preserve it ... as we learned in the movie last time. This time, however, there is plenty of time to actually get to know the character more in depth!
had a long chat with both Gunn and Cena before the premiere on HBO Max. During our conversation we have time to go through everything from why "Peacemaker" was the character Gunn wanted to explore more, Gunnar's love for Swedish pop and rock (which we also hear in the series), how Cena's piano playing found its way into the series and whether Gunn could consider directing a Marvel / DC Comics crossover at some point in the future.
