I can see this in Galakrond Rogue. You can use this to draw into invokes or to find your power cards like Heistbaron Togwaggle, Galakrond, the Nightmare, or Kronx Dragonhoof. This would also be another card in the deck you would be happy to draw off of Galakrond or Wondrous Wand.
I just realized that you could play this with Brann Bronzebeard to get a full hand and then destroy Bombs in your deck.
Combo it with Violet Illusionist, then you don't need a full hand. You could even play Spirit of the Shark the turn before to get two chances at discovering bombs.
But bomb warrior isn't really common in wild, that would make this a niche tech card like Eater of Secrets, and there are so many uses for this other than that specific scenario.
As cool as that interaction is, I don't think it's possible to play her and keep a full hand at the same time.
If you double her battlecry it can happen
Its a neat little draw engine with some unique properties. Essentially you're going to be drawing 2 cards with this one, but I feel like this is more support for decks that run either Togwaggle's Scheme or Shadow of Death kind of cards, since it discovers 3 cards from your entire deck and therefore odds are you're going to be offered something with more than 3 copies in your deck.
Maybe its just me, but at present I would rate Stowaway higher than this card. There either needs to be some really high impact 1 drop somewhere (that's not Mogu Cultist) or this card is simply too inconsistent in doing what you've probably planned for it to do.
If you're building a dedicated shuffle deck, there is probably space for this in addition to Stowaway. In decks with few or no shuffle cards, this might still be playable as Tracking or Master's Call with a body.
A less favorable comparison would be Countess Ashmore, but this is one mana cheaper for similar stats and easier to fit into decks.
This is definitely for a combo deck I don't see any reason to run it in any other deck.
An allmost bulderfist ogre with an added draw 2.
Also Rogue is known for shuffling. Tage the ticket vendor. That’s a nice tutor to get all those 3/3s.
I know it’s not insane and lacks compared to Soulciologist but “no reason” is a little harsh
Well actually I guess it could be used as a Kronx Dragonhoof to draw a C'thun piece or C'thun itself
If this card had taunt I would like it.
Mogu Cultist + Togwaggle's Scheme + Grand Empress Shek'zara
Even if you pick a card you're only running two of, that's still a 6 mana 5/7 to draw two cards. And you get to tutor. If a slower Rogue deck exists, you put this in. Having potential synergy is just icing.
I like that Blizzard is establishing a precedent of giving rogue mantid leaders in Old Gods sets, with Xaril, Poisoned Mind the first time around. Its a small thing but is a nice touch nonetheless.
As for the card itself, I always like designs that are fine but not spectacular under normal conditions, but have potential for ludicrous shenanigans. It is rare they have much impact on the meta since 'shenanigans' isn't exactly a byword for consistency, but they always feel good for casual players to mess around with. Plus I insist on playing slow rogue decks regardless of the meta, so I am sure Shek'zara and I will get along wonderfully.
First thing I thought as I've been playing a lot more Wild lately, "Hello, Pogos!"
I know it'll be inconsistent, but still... very fun shenanigans indeed!
Agreed. Having a board, hand and deck full of the adorable little hoppers is worth all the hours you put in to get there.
It's a shame that Pogo Rogue is the only deck I have been able to honestly say Tak Nozwhisker was good in. Most of the time I have to cut him even if he was the reason I made the deck to begin with. I'm quietly hoping there's another card this set that helps breathe life into the old kobold.
The real shame is that I crafted Tak on day 1 assuming he'd be good... *sigh*
I crafted The Glass Knight
I think I did too, but not day one. It was for a specific deck I wanted to try and I had the dust.
Is there a crafting regret forum?! Maybe there should be.
I think the trouble is he was balanced around Preparation + Academic Espionage, which was completely needless since late game combos like that are never relevant in rogue meta decks. If he just cost 5 or 6 instead he could be so much easier to use with all the other shuffle cards. Then I could at least pull off my favourite backup combo of casting Shadow of Death on Tak himself, to make sure I had enough of him to do something more impactful with.
