A Hearthstone patch is arriving that brings changes to the end of the rewards track, the same ones that were announced by Ben Lee a few days ago.
- The patch is now live.
- Updates on mobile will take longer.
- If you have already completed the milestones, don't worry, you will be credited.
We'll be digging into the patch and let you know if there is anything special going on.
Nothing special, the whole patch is detailed in the notes below.
Quote From Kerfluffle Hey everyone,
We’re currently deploying a client hotfix that includes the following:
- Updated items on the Rewards Track.
- Level 33 – Old: Year of the Dragon Card Pack → New: 150 Gold
- Level 37 – Old: Scholomance Academy Card Pack → New: 200 Gold
- Level 40 – Old: Madness at the Darkmoon Faire Card Pack → New: 200 Gold
- Level 42 – Old: Ashes of Outland Card Pack → New: 200 Gold
- Level 46 – Old: Madness at the Darkmoon Faire Card Pack → New: 300 Gold
- Level 48 – Old: Year of the Dragon Card Pack → New: 300 Gold
Until this hotfix is fully deployed, some players may get the new rewards but still see the old ones. If you reached these milestones before we implemented these changes, you’ll be retroactively compensated up to the level you reached in a future update.

These calculations everyone is so hot about are VERY suspect. There is no way anyone outside of Blizzard has all the information necessary to predict what things will look like 3 months from now. If daily gold is all you consider, you are not painting a fair picture at all.
But in the past we already got additional rewards for seasonal events. If Blizzards calculations say "you're going to rely on seasonal events to get the value you already had," then any additional value you got from events before is now moot.
A good chunk of the outcry could've been mitigated if Team 5 put out how much XP a player is guaranteed during said events. "If you complete this series of quests you'll get X amount of experience for your rewards track!" would have been great to hear. Even if that were said it wouldn't alleviate that SLOG that is the Rewards Track. Just hit 26 and it honestly feels like games are not generating enough XP.
Would rather be given $100 a day, every day, or $5,000 at the end of the month? The "feel" of daily rewards may be different, but it's not worth complaining about if you are getting more overall.
Agree and agree. I have been playing for hours today trying to enjoy the new cards. Haven't gone up one level. The XP bar isn't shown after each match. It just feels.. like my "progress" is being hidden from me.
During the Ashes of Outland expansion, each player received an average of 6900 gold and 4 classic packs for completing quests. In the new Rewards Track patch, the amount of gold has increased to 5550 coins. In addition to this, the amount of experience from quests should be sufficient to conquer 7 bonus levels. This means you will get an additional 1050 gold.
Thus, the new amount of gold for completing quests will be 6600. This is a very important change!
Yes, you still receive 300-500 less gold, but your profit will be much higher if your goal is to collect a collection of cards (even if you think that the current packs and the first legendary card should not be taken into account).
According to my calculations, the total Rewards Track reward for quests will be equivalent to a minimum of 9550 gold (6600 Gold + 2 Legendary Cards + 5 Latest Packs + 5 Prior Packs + 2 Tavern Tickets + 1 Epic Car)
For some Arena players who don’t need cards at all, the loss of even 300-500 gold coins for quests this is still damage. Xp per hour can compensate for the loss of gold and potentially give even more. Arena players in the past did not receive gold for three victories at all, and now they get at least something. The situation for the Arena players has improved slightly, but what about the fate of the players who spend a lot of time in the game? Blizzard is still silent on XP PER HOUR!
Yeah, I've defended the rewards track based on these calculations, and I agree that many people are over-reacting to the value they'll be receiving over the course of an expansion. It's clearly more.
However, as I approach Level 25 (with no Tavern Pass XP Boost) I'm starting to get annoyed. I love Duels and have always been an avid Arena player. These modes cost gold. If I banked 300-450 gold at the start of an expansion (after buying packs), with some careful quest management, I was usually able to play four to five Arenas/week. Now that my levels are over 3,000 experience each, I'm having days where my gold doesn't increase. That.. feels bad, even knowing these calculations. It was nice having that total tick up each day, and maybe going for an extra three wins in ranked to round off another 150. It's somewhat irrational, but the lack of rewards as I get to the higher levels doesn't feel good.
Also, I was awarded an Arena/Duels Ticket for not completing my final Arena Run, was then rewarded one at Level 15, but was only able to redeem one. Something glitched and they're not tracked properly as a currency. Considering some people lost out on a week's worth of quests it's not a huge issue, but the lack of Tickets as a real currency is becoming an issue with Arena and Duels being fun and viable game modes. Then I got a weekly quest for Battlegrounds, a mode I typically ignore, but I had a decent amount of fun. I can't imagine paying $15 every expansion to access its full features.
I remember how disappointed everyone was years ago when Tavern Brawl launched. It sort of had promise, but ended up being a very, very lame game mode. It didn't feel like they had actually developed a new way to play. With Battlegrounds and Duels, they've succeeded. Arena, Duels, and Battlegrounds are at their best when there's broad participation. The barriers to play need to come down. Daily/weekly rewards need to be increased that help drive these players to these game modes. I personally think that completing all your weekly quests should bank you an Arena/Duels ticket ON TOP OF the experience. Allow players to unlock Battlegrounds Perks if they play enough in that mode.
This expansion is unique enough that constructed has a few more weeks of creativity before the meta is solved. At that point, if it takes 5000 experience to earn 150 gold, I'm not going to play much beyond completing my quests. I might even take a loooong break. I want to play Arena and Duels, but the grind to earn entry fees is going to become too high.
Well looks like blizzard fooled you if you count those rewards as 3000 gold. I am not sure if you are aware that we used to get 1 legendary and 6 packs of the new expansion day 1 but this time I don't remember any of that. Wait you mean we got them in the rewards track? Well then you should subtract it from your calculations and what we have left is 5 packs that are useless to most of us, 2 tickets(no one plays arena and duels is based on collection), and 1 epic which is around 3 packs at most. So i only see around 7k as we used to get which was really bad to begin with imo but at least we only had to log in complete quest and that's it. Now we need to play hours to complete some of these new quests(they said you can complete them however you play this game and you can catch up with players in the middle of the expansion) Spoilers: you can't.
Patch just went live. When I relogged it got downloaded for me
"We'll be digging into the patch and let you know if there is anything special going on"
This is what I've been waiting all along.
"Please teach me datamining o Master!"
Nothing special in the patch. Super small with exactly the changes that were detailed. womp womp
Ah yes, the ''listening to the playerbase'' step of the plan
