Working on a new concept, I’d like to have OoC’s input.

Hey everyone, I’m working on a concept that’ll introduce the guild system into hearthstone. I have a few ideas on what to include but I want to hear from you all to see what you’d like to see in a guild system for Hearthstone. Such as; Guild Roles, raids, rewards, benefits, rivalries, and anything else you can think of.

This project will probably be a bit larger than my other creations Tables, and The Tavern Renovation so it’ll be a while before it’s actually posted.

Thank you in advance.

First of all, we should try to set the limits. For example: how many players can coop at the same time(be in the same game)?

Considering the concept from WoW, the first things that pop to mind are "some guild members" vs PvE content, and Guild vs Guild. I think the latter is more fun for a game like HS, basically creating the tournament format - guilds battle it out, player vs player, set number of games, probably with some predefined rules or none at all.

One thing that should NOT be in guilds is a bonus for battling other guild members nor any static bonuses in general. There should not be an incentive to join a guild in terms of exp/gold/dust gain. Why do it then? Exactly for the idea of guild vs guild and maybe vs pve.

Again considering some sensible limits(e.g. Can't have more than 2v2 on the same game board), that are not even possible currently, winning games in this GvG format, or just winning the guild battle, should provide some bonuses for the winning guild members (especially if the rules will be fixed by the devs), but in a completely different system.

For example, they could gain a different type of exp to build up a guild tavern while each player could build his own house - by having some choices on how objects look upon reaching certain levels and what objects to put inside.

So, what to do with this guild tavern and houses? Maybe let them just be cosmetics, maybe allow stronger and stronger PvE fights, maybe allow different themes for the game menus overall, etc. Don't really have any interesting ideas regarding this.

TLDR: don't make guilds provide bonuses to exp/gold/dust in any way.

To be entirely honest I am no fan of the guilds idea. I entirely agree to Crusader2010 and his post.

    Some additional thoughts:

    • 2 vs 2 battles sounds fun but opens up a host of new problems; the UI would need to be significantly redesigned for this
    • Raids sound fun too but again the game would probably need to be signifcantly redesigned to implement this properly
    • Rewards are a sensible topic, you really can't give gold or exp in my opinion, cosmetics would be ok but might be too little to justify the concept
    • Introducing an entirely new layer of competion and rivalry might not fit the casual approach HS stands for

The bottom line is that guilds do not really fit into HS right now, nor can it easily be implemented. What I kind of like is the raids idea but I would not tie it to the guilds concept. Two quick ideas that come to my mind are (i) some kind of world raids for the entire community (like a super boss or so) and (ii) a new "raid mode" where you can compete with others against the AI (some sort of the Pinata tavern brawl but better and with more players). But these are just quick ideas.

English is not my native language, so please excuse occasional mistakes

I don't like the idea of guilds since it complicates the game a lot. I like how casual Hearthstone is and I don't think adding a whole new layer to the game would be worth it.

For the raiding (co-op) aspect, it will be similar to the old Lich King raid that required a Fireside Gathering, except it won't require a Fireside Gathering. For this kind of PVE content I don't feel that it should be exclusive to certain guild members.

Guild vs Guild will definitely be a thing, and there will be incentives for the guild's end of season ranking and amount of GvG participation.

Guilds in this aspect, at least how I'm imagining it, is for people who want a little more of a social feeling out of their Hearthstone experience. Players are going to earn experience regardless, the rate may be way lower since it's a bunch of friendly matches.

I have a reward system and with Iksar's recent Q&A's I have a few ideas of where I want to head with some awards.

There WILL be guild levels, as for how many and if they're similar to the rewards track is yet to be determined.

There has to be incentive to participate in guild activities, however, it can be done without FOMO and/or the feeling of player feeling as if they MUST be in a guild.

    Thank you for your input.

Hearthstone Mathematics came up with an excellent conceptualization of what a 2v2 mode could look like, check it out whenever you get a chance unless you're already familiar with it.

Raids can be easily implemented. They've done it in the past and without changing it much it wouldn't be a problem to reintroduce.

There will rewards other than cosmetics.

The not every guild member will be required to participate in the rivalry and competition. It'll be there for people who want bragging rights.

    Thank you for your input.

At what point do you all consider a Guild to be too big?

How would everyone feel about a guild Tax that YOU get to determine? I was thinking a 0-5% slider that each member can adjust. The tax would apply to dust and gold.

The reason for this tax is so that the guild can have its own small collection of cards so players can try a card/deck before crafting it themselves.

Or yay or nay to the whole “rent a card” and guild collection system?
