Fresh info on the core set hot off the press! Hearthstone's Alec Dawson confirmed this afternoon that fan-favourites Stonetusk Boar and Bluegill Warrior are moving to Wild.
The original plan for this mighty Beast and Murloc duo was to keep them in Hearthstone's Core set but to remove their Charge keyword in exchange for the much easier to balance Rush. The change would make the cards less oppressive in the Standard meta and would give the designers space without worrying about OTK combos that the cards could be involved in. This was met with some hostility from the community, saying the changes were going to harm decks that they wanted to continue to play.
Blizzard's solution? Move the cards to Wild, let them keep charge, and add two brand new minions to the game for the Core set that will have the Rush keyword instead. They also have new stats!
- New Stonetusk Boar (Core) - 1 Mana, 2 Attack, 1 Health. Rush.
- New Bluegill Warrior (Core) - 2 Mana, 3 Attack, 1 Health. Rush.
Additionally, Celestalon has given us some details on what we can expect from the new minions!
- New Stonetusk Boar is a "friend of Ysera's".
- New Bluegill Warrior is "rosy-hued".
Quote From Alec Dawson One last piece of Core set info before card reveals start tomorrow. We will be moving Stonetusk Boar and Bluegill Warrior to Wild, they will go back to their original statlines with Charge. Two new cards will replace Boar/Bluegill in Core, a Beast and a Murloc with Rush.
Quote From Chadd Nervig Looking forward to everyone getting to meet Bluegill Warrior's more rosy-hued friend, and also a friend of Ysera's! ;)

Good decision.
Yeah! The murloc is safe! Those iconic cards deserved a good treatment!
Alright, Anyfin Can Happen Paladin is saved! Nice. Stonetusk Boar isn't losing charge and will be super strong alongside The Caverns Below... NOOO!!..
I'm really happy that Bluegill Warrior didn't get it's charge removed, but i'm sad that Stonetusk Boar keeps charge. Stonetusk Boar is i.m.o. too problematic because it's always 1 good card away from being able to become oppresive or to give rise to a really unfun strategy. Bluegill Warrior kinda has the same thing going on, but because it costs 1 more mana it's probably a bit harder to try use in the same kind of combos as Stonetusk Boar.
Btw, for those probably screaming: "But it's in wild now, those combos won't be that strong after they print 1 synergistic card!", well look back at what pre-nerf Hysteria did to Wretched Tiller. That "one card" turned a bad 1 drop that pretty much never saw play, into a really unfun combo piece.
Even after everything i just said, i'm happy they listened to the community. That feels pretty good, and it feels even better considering the fact that most of the complaining came from the Wild community! Normally they ignore Wild and it's community a lot, but the fact that they listened now is amazing!
Hysteria was a turn 6/7 OTK that had twice of deck.
Caverns cant even comapre to that At all. Its way slower, weaker and inconsistent.
ANd EXTREME vurnablity to aggro
Okay maybe i didn't write it down that well, but with the Wretched Tiller example, i meant that Stonetusk Boar is in a similar position as Wretched Tiller was before Hysteria got printed. All Stonetusk Boar needs is 1 super strong card in order to create a Wretched Tiller level of unfun deck to play against. I only tried to rever to Stonetusk Boars combo/OTK potential. I never ment to compare The Caverns Below rogue to the Wretched Tiller OTK deck, because those are 2 VERY different types of decks. (Even though there both weak to hyper aggro, which is basicly the wild meta right now.) I just tried saying that Stonetusk Boar is also a strong inclusion in The Caverns Below rogue in order to squish in some more damage.
Redgill Warrior
Dreamtusk Boar
What do you think the new core minions will be named?
Rosygill Warrior and Ysera's Boar Friend
Good compromise by Blizzard IMO
3 things that I took away from this news, all of which are great news. Anyfin paladin is not dead, OTK Beasts shenanigans can still happen, and Quest Rogue might actually be very competent.
Redgill warrior and Ysera's Boar, I'm calling it now.
Can we keep the names "FluffyTusk" and "FluffyGill" .. That would make my week :)
So, how's that Quest Rogue revert looking now everyone? Again, if Crystal Core simply targeted board, hand, and deck instead of having a completely unique effect of a persistent aura then bouncing a Boar would revert it to a 1/1.
umm... arent people playing the 2/1 pirate with charge or at least did when quest rogue was a thing?!
even if they nerved stonetusk, rogue would still have the tools to send in 5 dmg charge in your face
It's a matter of critical mass. The more Charge tools they have to work with, the more dangerous the deck becomes.
My quest rogue is waiting for the rotation already! Miss a lot playing it and after sonya nerf on the tokens it was really bad, now I can play it again in his prime glory! :D
They're not really gone, as long as you keep them in your hearts.
...and in your collection, of course...
beautiful
This is what they should have done in the first place. The change from Charge to Rush makes them completely different minions, beyond the scope of what a tweak for Core should be. You shouldn't destroy entire archetypes in Wild for the sake of keeping some old card art alive in Core.
Of course, cards like these are the reason I stay away from Wild, but to each their own.
I really hope they don't cock this up by making the new Boar not a Beast. I was honestly looking forward to running a 2/1 Rush beast in midrange hunter
