Seems like team5 really wants druid to start playing a slew of taunt minions instead of just the usual broken stuff + ramp.
Unfortunately, I'm yet to be convinced. Razormane Battleguard is basically a Pint-Sized Summoner that pays for itself if you can get a taunt out on the same turn, but its likely never going survive more than a turn. So you build up a deck composed mainly of taunts, play this card + a taunt minion, this card gets removed, and then what will you do? Druid has never been short of mana cheating cards like Innervate or Lightning Bloom, so if its cheating mana you need, these cards will do it, and they will give you a net positive of mana the same turn its played, unlike this card.
Plaguemaw the Rotting is more interesting. But the conditions is to either have a taunt already on board so you can trade it off while playing this card, or to play this card along with a taunt and pray that it survives. Both are not good signs. There's a possibility for this card to get really powerful if the old taunt druid from yore comes back to standard, but until then, I think it'll never fulfill its greatest potential.
I know that the card is a buildaround, but I don't think it's a fair assessment to judge a card based on how easy it is to be removed since it's not always going to be the matchup you play against. Also, you probably will always play Razormane Battleguard alongside a taunt minion. And if they remove it, at least I already get value from it. And since Razormane Battleguard itself doesn't have taunt, it's going to be quite tricky to try and trade with it since it's always hiding behind the taunt minions it cheats.
I can see Team5 2.0 frame, each class is going to be different, finally ffs.
If it sticks its a easier way to corrupt the clowns?
Welp. Looks like they stole Luminous Broodmoth from MTG.
While not particularly excited by either of these, this does make me hopeful for some more Taunt Druid support. I'm still staunchly holding on to my Hadronox Druid and would love for that deck to get some new toys.
Winged Guardian + Plaguemaw = Fun:)
I would love if these could make Greybough better.
Not likely to be able to set it all up in a turn or even two, but if you get smaller non-taunt minions out, then Greybough, when about to pop the minion that resummons him drop Plaguemaw. It’s likely more meme than meta, but still it could be interesting and fun depending on additional support.
Well now it´s clear where is Druid heading this expansion. Not sure if I like it or not.
It's notable that the Battleguard doesn't have taunt itself, so doesn't consume its own effect like, say, Pint-Sized Summoner does. It can therefore be considered a free 2/3 that is a must kill but also protected by a taunt minion. So it could be more powerful than it first seems.
This is pretty crazy, you can play Razormane Battlegaurd on turn 2, then Greybaugh on turn 3, then PLaguemaw the Rotting on 4 for what could be the start of a VERY difficult board for your opponent to deal with.
True, and with new Core set changes, they removed some Class removals... so it might be harder to stop, especially when Druid gets perfect draw order.
New copies won’t have taunt but should keep deathrattles.... whaaaat Greybough is multiplying?!
I'm getting some Greybough shenanigans vives from this
yeah no, this doesn't convince me of Taunt Druid.
Battleguard could be somewhat strong with a few smaller taunts to get on the board early, but this just feels like the kind of gimmicky midrange deck that works on paper but just fails in practice because it doesn't have enough swing potential
Meh to both for now. Only bonus i can think of is if Razormane Battlegaurd sticks around you can get Teacher's Pet down on 3? Hopefully they will print some cheap taunts otherwise.
This seems pretty easy to do, since you can play Razormane Battleguard into Annoy-o-Tron on turn 2. That will make it hard to remove the Battleguard, so it would be easy to play Teacher's Pet or Greybough afterwards.
Seems like they are pushing taunt druid
