Hearthstone has gone full holiday season today with the Winter Veil event kicking off a new legendary questline, freebies, and some new shop bundles. We've put everything in one easy to find place so read on for all the details!
Winter Veil 2022 Legendary Quest
A new legendary quest has appeared! Completing this will reward you with a total of 6 card packs - 3 of which are from the Alterac Valley expansion. Here are the different quests you will be able to complete:
- Play 3 Games
- Play 3 games of Ranked Standard.
- Play 3 games of Duels. (Find starting decks in our latest Duels Meta Report)
Each quest rewards you with 2 card packs, 1 Alterac Valley and 1 Standard.
Wintery Tavern Brawls Return
We're going to see two Tavern Brawls return over the next couple of weeks, the first of which will be tomorrow.
The Gift Exchange brawl will be bringing back to Winter Veil Treat card back as a reward for anyone who hasn't earned it yet. If you already have though, you can expect a Year of the Phoenix card pack instead.
Snowman Thrall Hero Skin - Free!
Everyone gets a free hero skin this holiday season. Login to Hearthstone and visit the shop to claim Snowman Thrall for free. We do not know when this skin will no longer be available, so grab it early!
Greatfather Winter Magni Hero Set
We datamined this skin a couple patches ago and it has been a hot topic within the Hearthstone community because of how awesome it is. Greatfather Winter Magni is finally available in a $9.99 bundle alongside the Greatfather Winter card back. Awesome. This is a much better addition to the game when compared to 2019's horrific Dame Hazelbark shop bundle.
Winter Veil Cheer and Chill Bundles
We also got two new $24.99 bundles with holiday themed skins for the other 8 classes. Demon Hunters, Paladins, Rogues, and Warlocks are getting in the festive mood with these Cheerful new skins available in the shop.
Druids, Priests, Hunters, and Mages can all celebrate this wintery wonderland with these frosty skins.
Winter Veil Battlegrounds Bundle
Battlegrounds is getting some holiday love too! Like other Battlegrounds bundles, it costs $19.99 and features Greatfather Boom as the bartender replacement.
Notably, the Finley & Metzen image is a reference to Chris Metzen who left Blizzard a few years back to found Warchief Gaming, which recently successfully kickstarted their Auroboros: Coils of the Serpent Dungeons & Dragons 5E campaign. Also as a part of this extended trivia, Tabayrak, who works on Hearthstone Duels, is a designer on Auroboros on the side!
Metzen the Reindeer is a holiday character in World of Warcraft that can be found during a special Winter Veil quest titled "You're a Mean One..." and involves going to Alterac Mountains to free him after you slay the Abominable Greench.
That's a wrap on Winter Veil's 2021 content. Anything you are particularly excited for?
Comments
bought all of them because fomo
Just some advice on Standard packs, seeing as we're getting 3 free packs from the quests. I started doing this "trick" since Standard packs were released and it's saved me on quite a few new packs from recent expansions.
Save your Standard packs for the next expansion once you're happy with your current standard collection. Same can be said with class packs that we get from Book of Mercs.
There's a specific breakpoint with opening packs where they have very little value. After 230 packs it's not worth it. See Bot Mathematician's video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdOmANK5A3o
>Notably, the Finley & Metzen image is a reference to Chris Metzen
Didn't they say that they are not doing vanity cards anymore?
The buy one feature from the mecha skins must have flopped hard for Blizzard to not use it again. I imagine it would have been more successful if the skins were not mecha.
Also that Valeera skin is really cute and feels perfect for a Spectral Pillager deck.
Never spent any money on cosmetics before. Still won't, but that snowflipper rexxar is getting me closer than ever before
I am generally a packs whale, and won't buy the skins this time. That said, I think there are a lot of cool skins in these bundles - lots of fun art.
I take everything that's free as something good, but making the quest as "Ranked Standard" is bs... It should just be "Ranked", why do people that don't play standard be forced to play the mode...
I already know that a lot of the player base don't care about Wild nor Wild players, and I'm not complaining, just pointing out that it's pretty shitty for people that don't play the mode (The same could go for the duels quest, but I'm biased about it because I enjoy the mode).
Anyways... Rexxar looks like a total badass psycho.
1. You are definitely complaining.
2. You see that you are biased, yet you complain about it anyway.
3. It's not about other players not caring about Wild. It's about Wild not being a money-making game mode for Blizzard, so there's no reason to reward playing it. In fact, I'm sure Blizzard sees Wild as a necessary evil and would prefer it if no one played Wild.
4. Newer players are completely unfamiliar with Wild cards, and they certainly don't own any.
5. You don't even have to win the games. Just put some random Core cards together and collect your free packs, you ingrate.
Why this hostile tone? They aren't asking for a Wild-only quest; they specifically suggested a "Ranked" quest that would be Wild- and Standard-agnostic. This alternative would basically harm nobody, while being more inclusive for the players who prefer Wild.
Because hypocrisy annoys me. You don't get to say "I'm not complaining" and then say something is shitty in the same breath, especially when the thing in question is not even remotely shitty in the first place.
If its any consolation, just go in there with suicide warlock and grind out 15 min for 2 packs. Its play, not win after all.
yeah, wish they would stop the "skin bundles" as usually there are only 1 or 2 I want, and won't use the others, so wont waste the $.
They split apart the last couple of bundles. Too bad they didn't split up this one (for North America). I want Frost Fairy Jaina, but there is no way in hell I will abide that Rexxar abomination in my collection.
Exactly, I would also use Tyrande, but I've no use for the other two. Jaina is the one, I really want. Oh well.
you can buy them separately
No you can't,
Yeah, i can
But apparently is a brazil thing
Damn, Brazil OP!
Oh I didn't know it was a thing, sorry then. Saludos from Spain.
"skin bundle" just sounds so funny though
