If you received any mystery Arcane Dust recently or have been missing cards, Blizzard has issued a statement to clear up what exactly happened.
- Some players obtained extra copies of cards that they should not have been able to.
- A process that was ran last night was done so with errors, which added extra dust to accounts and removed cards that weren't supposed to be removed.
- Blizzard continues to work on a resolution for the issue and will then start the process again.
Read on for all the details.
Quote From GnomeSayin Hey all,
We’re working to fix a few ongoing issues right now that we wanted to give you all more information about.
Last night (Pacific time), we started a heal-up that awarded many players some Arcane Dust (starting in the Americas region). That Dust was to compensate those players for a bug that allowed those players to get extra copies of uncraftable Golden cards from various sources, like monthly awards, Arena awards, and some products (but not Packs).
Those uncraftable Golden cards included cards from the Rewards Track and the Battle for Alterac Valley event. The heal-up was supposed to delete the extra copies of those uncraftable cards and award the affected players with Dust equal to the value of those cards. That’s why different players got different amounts of Dust—it depended on how many of those extra copies you had, and what rarities they were.
Unfortunately, as some of you have noticed, there were some issues with the heal-up. One issue was that several cards were included that weren’t supposed to be included, resulting in players getting more Dust than intended. A second issue was that some players got the Dust award twice. A third issue is that some players had too many cards deleted, leaving them with fewer copies in their Collections than intended. When we noticed these issues, we stopped the heal-up to avoid causing issues for more players.
The team is currently working on fixing these issues. We just ran a script to correct the Dust grants for people who got it twice, and are in the process of running a script for people who got too many cards deleted. Once these issues are fully resolved, the team will run a check to make sure the fixes have been run correctly and all appropriate adjustments have been made. Then, we will finish the initial refund in the Americas and start it in the other regions.
We will update this post when we have more information.

My golden cards are back & my dust is at 0. The cards I crafted before are still there.
Setting aside the mistakes with the heal-up, I'm still baffled over the original issue. I saw the dust popup. So I had somehow recorded too many copies of golden rewards cards?
Like, did the rewards track show 2 uncraftable cards and then it added 6 to my collection?
Wow, they managed to botch the SQL script too. I can only imagine how their database is designed :/
I'm assuming, from the way the article mentions NA region only, that EU and the other regions were not affected? Haven't received any dust notifications when I login
Yes, looks like that
Seriously, if a mistake is made on their part they have to eat the dust they gave to people. To take back any dust will only piss people off. It is not like this one time windfall of dust for people is going to put them in the red. But pissing people off will definitely put you in the red.
That's unfortunately not how the world works. Because even if its just digital resources, someone has to write up that error report and explain to management how they fked up, and then they need to propose solutions to rectify that mistake. There's no way anyone at management would sign that document without some clawback ideas inside.
Its a similar thing with banks. If there's been a mistake transaction and the beneficiary went ahead and spend it all, they can be charged in court.
In terms of being pissed off? Well, I don't know. If someone spent money they found on the floor and turns out that it belongs to a person and he's asking for it back, should that someone be pissed off? Even in reddit, most Ive seen are people regretting they've spent that extra dust, few angry replies.
Im not saying which is right or wrong. But its rare for accidental windfalls to not come crashing back one way or another.
I logged in like two hours ago, saw a shiny 8k dust pop up in my face. Went to my collection, and it wasn't there :(
Ah damn. I got 16k by mistake and only crafted 2 epics. Now I'm at 0 dust.
Let it be a lesson, next time there's free dust: spend it quick.
You can go into the negative just FYI. So don't 'spend it quick' cause then you'll just be a dust deficit. In the past people who abuse systems in place (either intentionally or unintentionally) will be....rectified.
Curse you Rinzler! Don't Rectify me!
Yeah I’m at 5.4 because I crafted a Golden Magister Dawngrasp, so I wonder what they’re gonna do. I wish they’d let me keep the dust but I doubt it
I feel like I made a mistake spending that 8k dust right away… But I have more than enough dust so I guess if they take some of it out of my total remaining I’ll be okay.
EDIT: Based on what some people are saying on this thread, those who got it twice actually saw the pop up twice. I only saw it once so maybe I'm okay and won't have any dust taken away. Unless I had extra because some cards shouldn't have been refunded. But again, should be okay either way.
I got 3200 twice, but only spent between 1600 - 2000 (can't remember if I already had that second copy of Ur'zul Giant). So I should be fine if they take 3200 dust away.
Looks like what they are doing is taking away all dust people got to go back and redo everything from scratch. I got 8000, and now appear to have lost 8000. But again, not a huge deal.
At least we can be sure that this is the one of few things that will be fixed without us waiting months for it.
Did it say what will happen if you spend all those extra dust though? Would you end up with negative dust, that would be interesting.
Most folks at Reddit say that their dust gets reduced to zero but not negative. So you actually do get some profit if you spend the dust before it was taken.
