Post-Nerf Wild

Submitted 2 years, 10 months ago by

Hi,

Saw there were some nerfs to Warrior and Hunter.

What is the state in wild now? Are hunters and Warriors as powerful as they were?

Thank you for helping!

    Odd hunter is probably dead.

Pirate warrior is a little weaker but still strong.

Shaman is public enemy #1 and there doesn't really seem to be anything that consistently beats it, yet.

Very refreshing meta so far for me. Pirate Warrior is still a common matchup, Hunter looks dead. Other than that, Control Druid is still popular as well as Mecha'Thun Warlock, Even Warlock (with and without Reno), different builds of Battlecry Shaman and Res Priest. Shadow Priest turned up again to take advantage of unrefined lists but I don't expect them to stay for long with Druid being that popular and Warrior a tough matchup.

Personally, Big Paladin has done well for me. Might try Tax Pally next and then there was a chinese player who claims that Odd Rogue might make a comeback. Couldn't be happier about not seing a single Ignite Mage since the nerfs went live.

I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

    My impression so far:

    • Odd Hunter: Losing one of its key card was a huge blow; now Tier 3 at best
    • Quest Pirate: If you look at it in a vaccum the nerf only resulted in a minor decrease in power level; however the deck now gets hard countered in a lot of matchups, especially Freeze Shaman, so the actual power level decreased quite significantly

Well this brings us to the new perpetrator. I only played for like 2 hours post-nerf but in this time around 50% of the matches were against Freeze Shaman, which is clearly the new Tier S deck. I could not win a single game. They can freeze your board for turns and just slam you in the face and if you should survive this well its Shudderwock. Not found a counter yet, I am thinking of some kind of Spell Mage but not sure yet. 100% sure this will get nerfed soon. So my first impression is that one obnoxious deck replaced the other.

English is not my native language, so please excuse occasional mistakes

Freeze Shudderwock Shaman is working out well for me too. I only lost a single game against Shadow Priest so far. All other board centric decks just get frozen over and over again, lol.

Sigh. I had been considering dabbling in Wild again. Pre-Stormwind I played it more than Standard, but barely touched it since.

No matter how you swing it, getting your board permanently frozen is never fun. I'm honestly amazed they gave Shaman the potential for so much AoE freezing after that was the entire cause of frustration against Freeze Mage, and the very thing they told us they wanted to avoid when making Freeze Shaman back in KotFT. It's almost like they knew what they were doing when they made it meme-tier weak...

so, should I dust the warrior quest line or keep it for now?

Still sad that most Hearthstone Wild players are so uncreative and win-centric that they simply flock to whatever is broken. It'd be nice if they found a way to make it what it should be: a melting pot of archetypes that ppl actually want to play.

I'm surprised that Freeze Shaman has emerged as Tier S in Wild, though at the same time I'm not surprised at all that there's another Tier S deck in that format. It's basically impossible to balance that mode, no matter how much Wild players wish the devs would tinker with it more. Take down one broken deck, then another will simply take its place, and so on and so forth. It's just the way it is.

I love how every time you post it is complaining about other players.

It's still one of the better decks all the way up to top 100 legend. If you're not desperately in need of dust, I'd keep it.

What about the people who have been playing Freeze Shaman since the beginning? It's not my problem that the archetype now finds itself doing well...I'm just playing what I find fun :/

Same here, I have liked playing Shudderwock Shaman since the inception of this archetype. It is an eternal deck and hopefully remains viable forever with some ups and downs from time to time.

The Firemancer Flurgl + Toxfin board clear package heralded the big return of this deck. The latest expansion added the freeze package and now is the time to shine again.

Enjoy while it lasts until the next broken thing replaces it undoubtedly.
