Quote From John Hight For nearly 28 years, the Warcraft Universe has ignited imaginations across the globe through rich storytelling and expansive worlds. It has built the very foundation for World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, providing entertainment, community, and competition for millions globally.
This year, we have a lot of exciting news in store for the heroes of Azeroth and the patrons of the Hearthstone Tavern.
PLAYING YOUR HAND IN HEARTHSTONE
To kick off the first of our announcements, on March 15, the Hearthstone development team will share details about the first of three expansions this year. Shortly after, they'll provide a deeper look into the plans for Hearthstone for 2022—including the annual core set changes.
Until then, you’ll want to cozy up by the fireside for the first season of Hearthstone Grandmasters now in progress. Exclusively on YouTube, you can earn Fractured in Alterac Valley drops while watching the top players in the world compete for their shot at the playoffs, a share of the $250,000 (USD) prize pool, and regional invites to the 2022 World Championship.
Don’t forget to tune in on April 2-3 for Lobby Legends: Raid Leaders—Hearthstone Esports' first Battlegrounds event of the year. It’s an exciting time for Hearthstone and you won’t want to miss a moment in the Tavern.
THE WORLDS OF WORLD OF WARCRAFT
On April 19, the World of Warcraft development team will reveal the next expansion. We’re excited to show you what we've been working on and where your adventures in Azeroth will go next.
Until then, we hope you are enjoying Eternity’s End, the newest content update and final chapter of the Shadowlands saga. The heroes of Azeroth have been called forth to this intriguing new land of Zereth Mortis to thwart the Jailer's efforts and stop him from rewriting reality as we know it. This past week we have seen brave adventurers make their way into the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid zone on Normal and Heroic difficulty, and this week they will finally come face-to-face with the Jailer himself as Raid Finder and Mythic difficulties become available. I’m eager to see who will achieve world first!
In WoW Classic, players have gathered their strongest allies to go beyond the gates of the ancient troll city of Zul’Gurub, face the Blood God Hakkar, and reap the rewards in Season of Mastery. Players have also been taking on the challenges in Burning Crusade Classic Phase 3 as they make their way into the Black Temple to face Illidan within his stronghold, engage in the Battle for Mount Hyjal to preserve history, and much more.
The competition is fierce as WoW Esports celebrates 15 years this April with more seasons of epic competition ahead. For those looking to test themselves against the best players in the world, the Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon International are gearing up for more fast-paced action. For dungeon-runners, players who register by March 28 and complete the MDI Time Trials have a chance to earn the in-game Encrypted Banner of the Opportune. Sign-ups for the MDI Time Trials are open now on GameBattles. We wish the best of luck to all competitors. May your cooldowns be with you and your buffs strong.
IN BLOOM FOR MAY
Beyond World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, we're preparing to get the first game in the Warcraft Universe designed for mobile into your hands. We will tell you more about it in May.
The future of Warcraft is bright. On behalf of all of us at Blizzard working to bring even more exciting Warcraft experiences to you, we thank you for being a part of the community. We're excited about the journey in front of us and are grateful that you're joining us for it.
Thank you for playing, and we'll see you in Azeroth, the Tavern, and beyond!

Looking forward to the announcements! The core set changes are going to also be very exciting, considering we know that were going to see some older popular characters return in the core set as either the same cards before, or in a new version. (Similarly to the current core sets legendary dragons) The new core set alone will almost certainly change the meta in a big way, as some core set cards that see a lot of play right now might "rotate".
And of course seeing what the next expansion is going to be is very exciting, i just hope the cards are going to be board focussed like they promised. And of course the thing that a lot of people might overlook rn, is that they will also show us the plans they have for then next HS year. I'm looking forward to seeing what they got in store for us next year. (I hope some kind of single player mode, such as a dungeon run, boomsday puzzles kinda thing or an adventure... or most importantly.. more bugfixes.)
Also i'm happy to see that they are actually promoting HS Grandmasters and The BG tournament, considering they didn't really promote their own Esport events last year.
Also about that Mobile WoW game, that seems interesting. I hope it's easy to pick up, just like hearthstone. (As in, you can just install the game and play. No WoW experience needed.) I'm also wondering if this mobile game might be the "unrevealed project" that blizzard has been teasing a lot, with a lot of ex HS devs that are working on it. (Would make sense, considering HS devs know a lot about mobile stuff.) Let's just hope whatever this mobile game might end up being, that it's not another cashgrab. That would be the worst thing possible.
Also Blizzard + mobile... I feel like i could make a joke about that, but nah. After all i feel like everyone instantly makes that joke the second they see "blizzard" and "Mobile" in 1 sentence.
There's more than 1 unannounced project at Blizzard, they recently announced that they're working on a survival game: https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/blizzard/23768911/create-a-new-universe-with-us (Brand new IP too)
Yeah i heard about that recently, and i'm pretty excited about it! Blizzard is really good at taking concepts and improving/innovating on them, so i hope that this new IP will change the survival game genre in a better direction! After all, there aren't really that many really good survival games i.m.o. (One of the best current ones being Don't starve i.m.o.) Also the survival game genre is still... how should i call it... a diamond in the rough. Despite all the years, there is still so much that can be improved/innovated on it.
With the guess whether it's THE unannounced project with lots of (ex) HS devs on it, well it was just some baseless speculation on my part. I'm just looking forward to seeing what the (ex) HS devs are making. After all that project has been in the works for quite a while if i recall correctly.
First diablo, second wow, what next mobile starcraft? :D
Kinda seems a bit off having a WoW manager post the announcement of the announcement for HS. I understand they want to showcase everything Warcraft related, but grouping them all together like this seems weird. Maybe it's coz there's no Blizzcon this year and they want to keep everything low key.
Lets also hope there's no blizzard drama during the reveal season, we'd already had 2 seasons ruined
I'm terribly excited FOR ALL THESE THINGS!!!
I am excited about the idea of another mobile/tablet game in the Warcraft universe!
I am currently a daily HS player (with most play time on my phone), loved WoW back in the day (vanilla and TBC the first time around), and briefly returned to WoW for a few months last year. I stopped playing after a while because I couldn't keep up with the daily grind/didn't want to keep up with it.
Hopefully they can bring something fun to mobile that scratches the WoW itch but doesn't require a massive time commitment.
Mobile Warcraft game?
Probably just another WoW on mobile. Or one of those inane mobile games where you're building stuff with options of purchasing gems to speed up.
Warcraft Immortal
The Warcraft mobile game sounds amazing. Can’t wait
Granted I do sometimes play HS on a phone, but I'm not sure what game would it have to be for me to want to play it from a phone. I guess we'll see.
My thinking is much the same, until I replace "phone" with "tablet." There's definitely a set of games I like to play on my iPad, and I'm hoping that it's the right level of game to be conducive to couch potato time.
*Warcraft mobile game announced*
"Do you guys not have phones?"
Would be nice to see another moments like that if they do this in Blizzcon. But I can predict that some trolls on the Blizzard forum gonna start it anyway.
I haven't heard ANYTHING about mobile Diablo in a very long time. Is it DOA?
Its kinda insane that it must have been at least 4 years since we last heard of that disaster PR response.
Dont know what is holding back the release, but I think blizz just believed its tainted from birth and subsequently removed most of its devs at work and the end result being that we waited 4 years for a game no one asked for or wanted.
I played in the closed beta a bit, it's okay. Nothing crazy and I think they have a bunch of issues they are now working on before releasing it.
I only followed the development briefely, but there have been a couple betas during the last year in some few selected countries. There has recently also been a blog post about some reworks they have done since the last beta and confirming that they are still aiming at a release during 2022.
According to what I've heard it's still "in beta". It still shows up in my android store as part of the "pre-registration" group.
At this point, I'm actually sure that the delays have caused more annoyance than the "don't you guys have phones" fiasco. (Though to be perfectly honest, that whole thing, while tactfully a bad decision by the devs, was an inevitable outcome to the gaming industry)
I mean, side-ranting for a second about that blizzcon fiasco: "Out of season joke" is just about as a grandstanding as saying "don't you guys have phones"
In either case, Blizzard is gonna have to do something super special/interesting to get my attention with a warcraft mobile game...because as it stands now, if I wanted to play WoW, I'd be playing burning crusade classic. Except I need a daily 4 hour time sink/2nd job like I need a hole in my head.
I think the main issue was that they made it into a big reveal, creating high expectations that they couldn't meet. If they had announced it with less fanfare, I think most people would have reacted "Sure, I'll give it a try".
