We've got the first wave of new card reveals for Voyage to the Sunken City! You will want to visit our full guide for all the information about the new expansion.
Update: The Sunken Sweep card is not collectible. Imagine that, blizzard making a goof.
- New Keyword: Colossal!
- The ocean depths are home to many massive monsters unlike anything you’ve seen before. These giant creatures are too big to fit on one card! Minions with the Colossal keyword come with extra appendages that synergize with their main body in powerful ways. These appendages are summoned with the main body, even if the Colossal wasn’t played from hand.
- New Keyword: Dredge!
- Don’t you hate it when the one card you need is at the very bottom of your deck? Not any more! Dredge is a new keyword that lets you look at the bottom three cards of your deck and pick one to bubble up to the top. You can combine these Dredge cards with new Azsharan cards that send a powerful “Sunken” card to the bottom of your deck. Whether it’s sunken treasures, your cool new Legendary, or a well-timed burn spell, Dredge can help you get just what you need.
- New Tribe: Naga!
- The cursed Naga join Hearthstone in this underwater adventure. Naga are a spell-focused minion type that often give you bonuses for playing one or more spells while the Naga are in your hand.
Comments
I will now proceed to simp over Blademaster Okani.
This card is fucking awesome and might be my new favorite card ever. It's a cool lookin' fish samurai with admittedly mediocre stats for its cost, but the effect is love at first sight. It's a card that not only takes skill to play, but also to play against. You have to know the meta and the game state well enough to counter the correct card to put the opponent in an awkward spot. And playing around it requires knowing what your opponent is planning. They might go for spell to deny you from clearing the board, or they might go for minion to prevent you from playing a certain card. Most of the time it might be pretty obvious what the choice is, but there will be situations where it will leave you at least 8 seconds guessing what the choice might be.
On top of that, he's free AND he counters Mecha'thun. God just rail me already fish daddy.
How does cards like Spellcoiler work? Does it all have to happen in one turn, or will the card actually remembers that the requirement has been fulfilled throughout the game? Guess those yellow borders will be working overtime in this expansion.
As for the new keywords, Im down with all the colossal units, which seems strong, but I fear for its future, because if ever board doesn't mean anything, then neither will these cards. I can also see Snowfall Guardian smiling at the sides, its scary.
For dredge however, Im yet to be convinced. There has to be more cards like Sunken Sweeper and Ambassador Faelin before dredge ever gets anywhere in standard. We'll have to see as the expansion is revealed.
That art for Shimmering Sunfish. Now that looks very familiar doesnt it?
So Colossal happens no matter what? It's not a battlecry so all parts arrive if summons from deck?
I haven't played since United in Stormwind, but this is making me REALLY want to come back...
League of explorer gets 2 new characters? Is that a gnome or a mech? (or a fish?)
"We gave you a Bongo!" Is the first thing in my head when i see that submarine
Possibly a Mecha-Gnome
Wild is going to become very negatey if cards like Blademaster Okami and Nerubian Weblord keep getting printed.
Edit: Anyone kinda confused on why so many new mechanics are being introduced at once?? I cannot think of another expansion with two new keywords...
The Witchwood introduced both Echo and Rush keywords
I totally forgot about that one. I guess it isn't that unusual then.
Im quite excited about this one, but are they joking with Blademaster Okani? Neutral Counterspell that can deny minions too? WTF
I wonder if the Sunken Sweeper really is a collectible card, because if so, then ffs we are getting closer and closer to the "HS cards in 2030 be like" powerlevel.
EDIT: Nvm it is not collectible, but the reveal image tells you otherwise.
So Blademaster Okani is Neutral Counterspell, with a 1- cost 2/6 attached?
Almost. It's a neutral counter to any particular card that the opponent is trying to win with, especially in decks with lopsided deck building.
For instance, if you play this against Druid and pick minion they cannot play their Kazakusan until they kill this which they might not be able to if you protect it enough.
The flipside is that if your opponent has the means to remove him wiwthout having to alter their gameplan in a major way you just played a vanilaa 2/6.
Honestly, it's probably the best win condition counter we've had so far. Also great for scouting. If your opponent commits to killing it you know they have in their hand what you intended to counter.
Is it just me or does Shimmering Sunfish look oddly familiar...?
Only if you played mercenary 😄
Cookie's Go Fish ability in Mercenaries
Well its a token for Cookies third ability in Mercenaries. Is that where you saw it?
Oh yep, that's where it's from 😅 here I am thinking it looks like Dora from Finding Nemo, it's even got the jellyfish!
Edit: Well the flavor text is 100% Dora
As I watched the video, I kept wishing this were an actual video game instead of a card game.
I take it the "+X" with Colossal tells you how many additional body parts will be summoned? And I assume these are generated tokens, not separate minions that must be included in the deck? EDIT: Just saw the release video, and the answers are both yes.
LOL I've played Subnautica. That's probably why I think a WoW-themed version of it would be cool.
