Nice Card, stats are good for 2 Mana and it generates value. But i guess this only works in aggro/token decks ...
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
Its only viable in a deck that wants more of a tribe, usually in a deck that features a grand reward for doing so. As such, the only real deck you'll ever see this card exist in is in quest pirate warrior.
In nearly all other decks, the chances of you getting something good is so small it'll never be worth it. In many ways it reminds me of Dragon Breeder, and that card is a ton more consistent than this card will ever be, yet still saw no play.
The only other niche is discovering from tribes that has small pools like quilboar. You're very likely to get Death Speaker Blackthorn, for example, or Death's Head Cultist, something that can easily save your life. But I doubt its good enough to see inclusion in standard, outside of pirate warrior.
Nice card to support tribal decks, but there's not really a lot of those around currently.
Pirate warrior will probably run it for quest completion but that deck iss already 90% pirates and doesn't really suffer from quest completion inconsitency.
Murlocs might also be interested if they're around in some capacity.
The main issue is that unless your 1-drop sticks this doesn't work on curve which makes it somewhat worse then regular discover cards.
There's also an argument to be made that in tribes with low representations (such as Nagas) this could be used to look for specific cards, much like Draconic Studies
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
An other Amalgam to reinforce any existing tribe, force some extra synergy and generate value.
For only 2 mana, this is a steal!
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Interesting. This seems like a very good minion, considering it has a lot of uses. Also i don't think pirate warrior will run it, because of it's not-aggresive stats. Another interesting thing to remember is that you could try use this to generate a collosal minion, which has better odds if the collosal minions minion type is rare in a certain class. (?Mechs in mage, murlocs in warlock) just because the discover pool is smaller. And because of rotation it's already a smaller pool. (Which is why discover is always at it's strongest after a rotation.)
I think this will see play in any deck that uses 1 specific tribe a lot.
The decks i think will run Amalgam of the Deep (I think) are: Mech mage, Naga Priest and maybe elemental shaman. Alright maybe murloc shaman might run it as well.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
I don't know if this will be amazing, but it looks like it should be pretty good. It also synergizes with every tribe, which means it could potentially fit in a variety of decks. I always try to identify every tribe in the art in these amalgam cards, and I'm failing to see a few. I should look up a bigger version of the artwork at some point.
Murlocs or mechs may actually like this guy depending how big their standard pool gets. Heck may even be good to discover extra colossals if the pool is small enough. Seems fun to mess around with. To bad Ey'sor rotates or their could of been some fun with totem shaman!
Casual Dragon Cardgame enthusiast.
I really like the amagalm minions
Amalgam cards are already basically glue cards to help fill in the gaps in standard tribal synergies, or trying to marry two separate tribes. This is by far the best of those we've seen yet, Pirates, Murlocs, Mechs, and most likely Nagas are really going to like this card in particular to keep up the pace. If it's not on the Rewards Track, this is an easy Day 1 craft just because of how flexible it is to help fill out decks.
Hey, you heard about that Mario guy?
It's decent stats and could see play in certain archetypes like Quest Warrior or an Aggro Beast Druid. Then again, why not just include the minion type you want? I see this guy as maybe a "budget" replacement option if you're missing a certain minion from your collection.
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
The card may seem uninteresting but it is actually quite scary. It's a cheap value option for all tribal decks, which often tend to be aggro, helping them not run out of steam. Harbor Scamp is run in Pirate Warrior, both Standard and Wild, and this card is very similar to that. Why wouldn't you run another 2 copies of it? With The Juggernaut active, you're always guaranteed another Pirate to activate the effect. A 3rd Defias Cannoneer or 2nd Mr. Smite can turn games around.
Put your faith in the Light!
It's likely to see play in Pirate Warrior; the only issue being there might not be enough cheap Pirates to curve into it (or to play alongside it early). Other than Pirates, perhaps a Murloc deck or Naga deck runs the Amalgam because there are so few options in Standard? Should add some dimension to decks that want to find more minions of a particular type.
I don't want to cure cancer; I want to turn people into dinosaurs.
Awesome card, since it works great on many different types of deck. Pirate Warrior, Murloc Warlock, Mech Mage... the potential is insane!
