Several Hearthstone community members were in attendance at the 2020 Community Summit where they get a preview of what Blizzard is cooking up for the year and beyond.
Frodan sent out a Tweet today stating he was "still in shock" after hearing what has been planned for this year. I can tell you that last year I was teased with the prospects of the best year of Hearthstone yet and looking back on it, it was indeed an amazing year for Hearthstone. With knowing how invested Frodan has been into Hearthstone since its announcement, him feeling comfortable enough to tease the community as a whole today says something big.
An announcement is coming "soon", whatever that means.
What do you want to see out of Hearthstone this year? What do you think Blizzard will do with the game?
Quote From Frodan Still in shock after hearing what's planned for @PlayHearthstone 2020. The developers remain as passionate as ever. They haven't given up on the game. Not even close. If they can execute, this will cement Hearthstone for the next decade. For new, returning, and veteran players.
When do us normals get to find out?
Pretty soon. They didn't have everything 100% prepared so obviously it's not ready for the public to see, but they gave us a rough timeline of what's happening.
I don't wanna get in trouble and promise a date on their behalf…but the closest thing will be very soon.
Kripparrian Talks Community Summit
Quote From Kripparrian We had an awesome time at the HS summit. You all should be very happy with what is coming to Hearthstone soon. Will be about 2 hours late for today's stream.
DreadsGaming Talks Community Summit
Quote From DreadsGaming Just like me, this water bottle is leakproof 🙃
Lots of cool stuff coming to @PlayHearthstone in the coming year and I can’t wait for you all to hear about it!
Tiago Taparelli of HSReplay Talks Community Summit
Quote From Tiago Taparelli I’m really impressed with what the @PlayHearthstone team presented today. Can’t go into specifics but it’s safe to say 2020 will be a great year for the game!
Thanks to Kripp for the article image.

More deckslots ?! Its going to ruin the new player experience, get them all confused, if not enraged - too elusive ^^
Unneccasary improvement. Look at the stats, 12 deckslots is sufficient.
What are deck slots? I'm confused, where is my basic priest deck?
PERSONAL PLAN
step a) Don't get hopes up.
step b) Be pleasantly surprised due to having low expectations
step c) Profit! (i.e. play more Hearthstone)
I'm curious but not seriously hyped.
For what is my gamestyle (homebrewing with Tempo/Midrange decks in Wild) the game has been pretty stale for a while, with the meta overwhelmed by a stupidly limited subset of flawed cards - killing the very purpose of Wild, aka larger set of cards.
I know i am quite specific as a player type, but well that's my point of view.
My Wishlist:
- Overhaul of Basic and Classic set - like change to Cleric or fix to overnerfed cards like Starving Buzzard or Warsong Commander.
- New ways of getting dust/ or gold. Something more than 10 gold per 3 wins.
- Dragons in Battlegrounds
- I hope they keep idea of all 3 Expansions being tied. This was awesome idea.
- New Hero portraits - they created a lots of them for Single Player missions. Let us use them (I want to be Kobold Druid!). They already have Voice Lines!
They really should revert warsong commander to old version and just swap charge for rush
yay they did it :D
Yes please! Give Minions with 3 or less attack Rush.
Hoping for;
- Change to evergreen set
- Change to system that reduces overall cost to have fun in hearthstone
- New ways to play hearthstone
- Revamp and balancing of wild cards
- Reintroduction of wild cards to standard (as part of the yearly rotation)
- Reduction in dust cost for crafting wild cards
Looks like Runeterra's doing work for hearthstone already.
i guess Legends of Runeterra really spook then huh? first game to do so. I mainly play Runeterra now, but ive been keeping HS quests clear and keeping up with the news and meta of the game just cause i was predicting the team to come up with something fresh for HS as the quality of Runeterra really seemed to put a dent on HS.
Im glad, hoping to see improvements so i can comeback to the game we all love
Also in the same camp (hit legendary in Hearthstone a couple seasons ago). For runeterra, I'm still getting hang of the turns in each round, but I suspect once folks master that mechanism, it's going to open up a lot interesting interactions.
As much as I love Hearthstone, I feel the developers have catered too much to the casual crowd, and have neglected the folks that want more depth.
IMHO, WoW had a great balance of 1) easy-to-learn mechanics 2) deeper game play for those gamer ethusiasts and 3) hardcore end-game content. Hearthstone is still somewhere in 1.5, whereas Runeterra is around 2.
on the flipside what made HEarthstone popular was the complete disregard for depth in favour of easy to pick up gameplay with flashy animations and a low skillcurve for deckbuilding.
WHen you lose a game in Hearthstone it's most likely going to be RNG or other factors out of your control, which is great for people who don't wanna have to overthink every single turn just to be able to win a game.
I'm not a very big fan of Kripp, but anything that makes him happy with Hearthstone must be good.
edit: Hopefully the mage hero will get released with this information or some news about it.
I stopped getting hyped for no reason a very long ago, since it usually leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you don't get what you're waiting for.
Do the upcoming changes encourage the content creators? Cool, but as long as I don't know what's coming I'll keep my opinion on the game as it is now (which is not negative, but not as enthusiastic as Frodan).
I'm not saying the Devs won't do anything (God I hope they'll improve some aspects the community has been asking for a while), but rather that we should wait until an actual announcement comes out and see what's new before popping our bottles.
With all the hype I expect something big now.
Total rework of basic/classic set+classes and FINALLY a teammodus (2v2,3v3...)
Otherwise I would be disappointed.
They will have to make huge changes to keep up with Legends of Runeterra. It's so refreshing playing a card game monitized on buying cosmetics instead of random card packs. You can spend some money on cards, but you get wild cards that let you craft whatever you want instead of getting a bunch of random packs. Even if you don't spend money, you unlock cards at a good pace by playing and get a ton more cards for free every week.
It's also so nice to play a card game that's doesn't rely on RNG so much.
i totally agree, everything about runeterra is done really, really well. The reward system and economy is fantastic.... but for some reason i don't find myself enjoying the game past getting my daily's done. I haven't figure out why the game play isn't hooking me yet. Maybe it's the pacing of the matches? Not sure :/
I'm in the same boat, I very much enjoy Runeterra, it's super enjoyable, but I find the pace of the games to be too slow since I have a fairly busy schedule. Likewise, the card collection method is very cool, and I liked it at first, but now I'm wanting to play new decks and simply don't have the resources to craft cards, and don't have the time to do the grind needed to get more cards.
Yeah, the pacing in Runeterra was also bothering me too. However, I tuned more towards a "fast midrange" (aka t6 Hecarim as the big swing) deck. Basically by t6ish you can tell if the deck has enough steam to win. Otherwise, conceed and move on. Personally I'm happiest when I win or lose fast. Aggro decks can get wrecked pretty hard in this Ezreal meta so.........
