So I'll keep this brief, apart from malygos and some hunter shenanigans there doesn't seem to be much combo. I mean cards like mecca cthun or hakkar. And still not really seeing a finisher for control paladin or is it just me. Your thoughts would be welcomed.

The meta is very aggro so the win rates arent good. But there is some new decks that pair with Mecha'thun. Try out warrior Kael'thas Sunstrider-Mecha'thun deck, or kael'thas mage.
If you want a combo Malygos deck that can win rank games, I've got a malyrogue deck around, check it out.
combo has gone to wild. check it out sometime
Thanks I was talking about the upcoming expansion but that is a cool deck for sure
Umm thanks
I've thought this thread is about how Rogue didn't get any Combo keyword card this expansion at first.
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
Year of the Dragon is a tempo meta. Combo is kind of dead and the only (good) combo decks from Year of the Dragon are rotating in combo priest / holy wrath paladin. There is always Maly druid but it'll probably be super bad.
Seems like the devs don't really like combo that much, are at least the ones who make final decisions don't want to push it. They've said more or less the same thing in some quotes. I mean a lot of combo decks are supported by "accident". Stuff like Holy Wrath pally, Shudderwock Shaman, Topsy priest aren't things they ever saw coming, at least they didn't see them being real decks coming. Sometimes they print cards that have clear combo implications but they don't support it as hard as control/aggro. It's rare you see a card like Mechathun, and they're usually bad (Hakkar).
Well, Blizzard has said multiple times that they aren't a fan of no-counterplay OTKs (which is what basically all combos in this game are) so they've gradually decreased combo support, especially for the classes known for it.
Druid still gets some, just look at Ysiel and Imprisoned Satyr. Rogue also is able to play Malygos quite well, but they don't exactly have the tools to survive that long. Mage got basically kicked out of the combo game when they removed Ice Block, and now Priest is gone too
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
They did say that ... and they keep introducing cards like Kaelthas. Just because we dont see an OTK deck right now does not mean they wont rise again when tools like this exist. Just you wait.

oh of course, it's not like they completely eliminated the concept, but they intentionally make these things harder to pull off and much less "viable".
Look at Hunter, they got like..a bunch of different OTKs, but nobody plays them because it's Hunter and therefore impossible to pull off consistently...and that's how it should be.
OTKs in a game like this shouldn't be competitive because it makes the game one sided and frustrating (I don't think anyone wants Freeze Mage back).
Wild doesn't count.

Did they really not see Holy Wrath Pally coming? How is that possible?
Thanks guys for the replies. Since I wrote this I've found a few more combos so it's not completely dead. Mainly involving the augmerchents but we all know how 6 card combos pan out. I can see why they want to minimise otks in standard but does this hold up to the statement that they want to cater to every style of player. I'm not so sure
No I would never want freeze mage back but let's say you are playing control and want a decent finisher aside from easy stuff like zeph. Where do you go. I've been looking at desert obelisk. Still no real way to pull this off well in standard and mogu cultist where Rogue is the only viable class in standard to pull this off after rotation. Maybe it's the masochist inside of me but I want to fight for my wombo combo
That's one of the ones where I meant they didn't see it being a real (meta) deck. They likely knew about the combo but probably didn't think it would be a real thing. The general consensus in the community was it was a meme deck at best, I remember even pro players laughing about it when Shirvallah was revealed. I remember that decks emergence well, it was over a month into the new expansion before it was on peoples radar.
