Disenchant trash tier (and other) legendaries?
Guys,
Having in mind the new extended duplicate rule, I'd like to ask you what's your opinion on disenchanting the bad legendaries that you have.
Since you are now guaranteed that you won't open them again (soon), do you think it's a good idea to disenchant the ones that never saw play? I'll gladly D/E my second Millhouse Manastorm which I opened again right after I D/E him in first place...
Not that I need dust for something specific but I ask as for the general "good practice" advice. Because previously it was to keep the legendaries no matter how playable are they, so that you don't open them again if you open more packs from that set.
Furthermore, I'd gladly D/E any 4 non-playable legendaries to craft one T1 legendary from the crafting guide.

I would say general good practice is to not disenchant anything unless you need the dust right now, so certainly wait for when you have something specific you want to craft and need extra dust for.
Once at the dusting stage, I would first look at cards you personally don't ever expect to make use out of. This could be weak cards because you only play competitive decks, but it could also be strong cards that just don't line up with your play-style. E.g. if I needed dust I would get rid of Mecha'thun long before Millhouse or Lorewalker Cho because I know I sometimes mess around with those two but just don't enjoy Mecha'thun decks at all.
This is all made more complicated if you suspect a card might get nerfed one day, which should make you keep it even if you are never going to use it.
Ultimately it is a game so all that matters is your emotional state, and any decision that you do not regret is in some sense correct. Unfortunately you cannot know what you regret until after you do it, hence why I suggest targeting cards you don't like from the start.
Fairly safe rule for those with thin wallets is to disenchant after they rotate out of standard. That way there's a much less chance you'll get a copy from packs since you're much less likely to open those packs anyway.
But if you're not fishing for dust, then its best to sit tight with those legendaries in your collection. Its really down to how desperate you are for dust that you'll start cleaning up cards that are currently* trash tier. There's plenty of reasons to hold back if you dont need the dust. Millhouse Manastorm may be trash now, but if team5 starts revamps classic, then he's suddenly worth 1600 dust for nothing.
I dint know where op got the chamces of getting them soon is low. If u disenchanted a legendary and proceed to open a pack from said exp u can easily get the same legendary again and waste a good spot for packing a decent one. Never dust classic cards cause u will be opening then until the end of times. If u really want to dust a legendary just for the 400 dust then u have more problems than this. Know how to manage ur dust my friend
As of Ashes of Outland this is not true. Any legendary (and likewise with cards of other rarities) is logged as 'owned' when you open it, and dusting does not change this. You will never open that legendary again until you have owned every legendary in the set. So unless you open enough packs to get every legendary in the set you are safe to dust without worrying about opening it again.
Regarding the rest of your comment: not everyone has the luxury of having dust reserves, and when they do lack reserves it is often not because they are careless with their dust. Besides, Hearthstone is not an economy simulator where the goal is to manage dust perfectly. It is a game and if dusting a legendary leads to a net gain of enjoyment then of course you should do it.
I made the mistake a couple years ago of dusting many of my wild cards. At the time my interest was only playing standard. Now I am finding I really enjoy wild and wish I hadn't dusting anything. Because interests may change over time, I would advise folks not to dust anything.
Give every cent you make to this game
support the developers drug habits
thats what I do and it’s working out great

I think you should disenchant trash legendaries. They are never used, so why let them sit in your collection? Use that dust to craft all the good cards so you can play all kinds of decks. But. I'd say only Wild ones. Standard may change and more synergies for that card might be printed later in that year, for example, Heistbaron Togwaggle. And then you'll be regreting your decision. In Wild, the meta is already established and rarely changes, so you can be 95% certain that Arch-Thief Rafaam will never be played.
Put your faith in the Light!
The only caveat is there feasibly could be a day they do a huge overhaul in wild and buff a lot of unplayable cards to add hype to the game. However that will be no time soon if ever

And tavern brawls :)
All generalizations are false.
Just another consideration to add to this discussion - I'm pretty sure some of the chat at the beginning of year of the Phoenix was that team 5 would be introducing a new mode that will capitalise on your old/unused/wild cards. Might be worth hanging off until we know more about that, if you can
May all your legendaries be golden.
Just some advice, if you don't need to the dust, don't DE anything, keep it until you need it.
that is actually very useful. thanks i didn't know that. i guess i have some inventory management to do on my collection. cheers
i don’t know about others, but i pretty much never disenchant cards i don’t have two of. who knows what whacky fun decks you’ll be able to create down the line? in fact, i even go so far as to not dust even a packfiller Minion. you never know...
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
I do the exact same, and I was proud of having made proper use of every single card I owned up until about Un'Goro (after that the replacements of adventures with full expansions made me fall behind).
But at the same time I know that lots of players a) don't have the means to keep up with expansions if they don't dust at least something, and/or b) are not the types of players who would be interested in making use of weak cards anyway. So my advice (wherever possible) mostly aims to prompt people to understand where they stand on this and then to construct their own rules to follow.
This is actually why I have never dusted any of my Wild cards except for the likes of Duskfallen Aviana, Harbinger Celestia and other cards on their level of bad. I used to do this without any issue when they rotated because I figured I'd never open another pack from a Wild set as they were in the online store only. When they made Wild packs available to buy with gold I thought I'd hold on to all of them as I might want to buy some Wild packs. But now with the new rules for rarity protection I went in and DE'd several bad Legendaries.
But overall, very happy that I kept a lot of my Wild cards. Despite the ridiculously high level of power in some Wild decks, as more and more cards go Wild I find it to be a lot of fun to play old archetypes with some new cards, it's like visiting old friends. Just yesterday I made a Tempo Dragon Warrior and I climbed lower Platinum ranks to P5 pretty quick. Even beat a Token Druid, which in Wild can be VERY aggressive and win quick!

Around Old Gods I realized my "dust whatever" strategy so I could craft what I wanted was not a good one, and since then only dust really REALLY bad cards, duplicates, and golden cards (with a few exceptions) since I don't care about the flashy cosmetic flair they bring.
1) I only dust golden Legendary cards if it's a legendary I don't want and I need the dust to craft a regular legendary I do want. If it's a legendary I want to use, or might have use for from time to time, I keep it.
2) I keep golden copies of a Common, Rare, or Epiic card if I don't have two regular copies. But once I do have two regulars, the golden gets dusted.
The other is of course golden Basic cards, because you can't dust them. But yeah, I kind of dusted anything I felt I didn't want/wouldn't use in the early days of the game and was on a right F2P budget. But later I regretted some of those DE's and took a few years to get a lot of the cards back. Now that I've been doing regular pre-orders since Frozen Throne I feel like I've got most of what I want, despite having some big gaps in a few sets still.

Get a [second] job, sell your blood/ body, anything else but disenchant your cards is the underlying moral we are trying to convey here
