I'm not a very social person, myself, but I know a lot of others are, and I always thought they could introduce player profiles into the game, where you could, if you were so inclined, write about a few of your interests, decks you've liked to play, blah blah. You can keep toggle them private and public as you like, just for those who might want to meet people for their friends list in a more discerning way than post match rage adds or sticking your tag on a message board for whomever. You get a friend request, you can check their profile, and go from there.
As for the class bans - I doubt it will work out in a positive way, but I've looooonged for a Mage-less Hearthstone experience since pretty much forever, haha. The class is so stupidly popular sometimes though, I think it would triple my queue times :P
They still do a pretty poor job of advertising it, too (aside from YT's flaws when it comes to live streaming and community engagement). If they really cared, they could've sneaked in a small in-game notification. It gets a small mention on the Battle.net client, but you would need to scroll down for it while other past news appear at the top.
I usually don't post on forums, but I guess I needed to blow off some steam. What is up with the BMing? What is up with the 'thank you's and why do people think that just because you won a game, then you have the right to also gloat? It pisses me off sometimes, but it used to be ok when it was just one out of every 5 games or whatever. Now they're all BMing and it is ruining the gaming experience for me to be honest.
Wow, just wow. The BGs damage cap they are talking about is completely useless. In almost every BG game there is at least one player that quits quickly or simply AFKs or is a bot.
For it to be of any use, 10 players should be in the lobby for the first 8-9 turns at least, to have any impact on the "fun" factor. And even then, a cap of 15 is way too high and won't change much with the amount of highrolling.
The problem's always been catching up and playing against the top 2-3 people more often than your opponents. To me, this 15 damage cap is not gonna do anything. What big difference does it make if you die on turn 9 instead of 8?! If they kept an 8-12 damage cap every time, it would actually be something.
I'm sorry, but I'm not feeling this game anymore. Not that it matters to anyone anyway... Very disappointed in the way they are going about this :(
I find the Horde much more interesting myself (the motley crew of traditionally evil races banding together to overcome the world's prejudices is much more engaging to me than the usual good fantasy races all being buddies), but you need to chill out about this.
You're making this assessment based on a comment about them choosing not to do Westfall, not that they decided against Orgrimmar. So they weren't intentionally shafting Horde fans with that. Besides, the cushy, protected life in Stormwind is a good counterpoint to the trials of toughing it out in the Barrens, which helps set the scene of who the factions are at their core. It's not a perfect fit for every race within each faction, but it is certainly a better representation than Orgrimmar and Westfall would have been.
As for set mechanics, I agree Stormwind is the more interesting, largely because the Barrens set went out of its way to make HS feel a lot more 'Classic'. It coincided with the release of the Classic format and the Core set, as well as establishing the Year of the Gryphon's whole early WoW theme, so Barrens was carrying a lot of weight in soft-resetting the game. However, none of that had anything to do with the Horde/Alliance split. Had they happened to choose to cover the Alliance first, I'm sure they would have got the less mechanically interesting expansion instead.
Finally, they skipped a boss in the Wailing Caverns simply because they ran out of legendary slots. There were only 4 available, so they could never cover all of them. I'm sure they will do the same with whichever Alliance dungeon we go to. Plus they managed to skip all the big SI:7 names in Stormwind! Where's Shaw? Where's Renzik? Poor old Elling Trias got demoted to a non-legendary Cheesemonger. So if you're going to accuse the devs of being Alliance lovers, at least look at the two sets with the same eyes.
I only completed TF so far, failed MF and didn't try TK.
Also having played a fair bunch of Viktor lab, my conclusion is that you have better gearing tower abusive early game. Whenever I could hit spawn a poro a turn and +1/+1 to the weakest at the beginning of the turn, the run would immediately become much easier. I could only clear Malphite (and his HORRENDOUS starting deck) and Zilean this way.
My main issue with the lab (both Viktor and GP) is that it is made that you seems to always have better closing the game as fast as possible, being unable to easily restore nexus at each encounter. That, and the fact that both Viktor, GP, and a couple of battles in Viktor lab (noticeably Scargrounds and Shrooms encounters) are punitive as fuck the longer the game (GP especially).
The reason we went to Stormwind instead is because the Westfall fantasy was too close to The Barrens.
There is literally nothing wrong with having the expansions be:
Barrens-->Wailing caverns
Westfall-->Deadmines/VC
They just didn't want to do it because they would rather do stormwind because they play alliance. They didn't care to show the same courtesy with horde. And if you doubt this. Remember they do expansions 3 in advance. They planned this out the entire time.
The reason we went to Stormwind instead is because the Westfall fantasy was too close to The Barrens.
I REALLY don't like how often this game leans into alliance over horde....tauren druid hero after so many years of just nelfs, lackluster horde themed expansion with basically overkill 2.0 and not based in their major hold of orgrimmar while the alliance themed expansion gets so many new mechanics that chage the game drastically like questlines and tradeable and is set it fucken stormwind....
The excuse that it's not certain races starting area falls apart pretty quickly when you remember one of the races from the barrens expansion was a draenai, I used to see them in the barrems all the time back in the day....yea right. It's a joke. At least we have 2 taurens now, better late than never I guess, even if one is just guff the cuck... Good luck if your favorite race in WoW is goblin. They'll get to you after vulpera and draenai im sure...maybe some day. Jk.
If you want even further proof they don't care about wailing caverns or the horde. They skipped a boss in the wailing miniset how does that happen if not willful ignorance.. Verdan the everliving. You literally can't miss the giant bog creeper in the dungeon and they forgot he existed lmao.
In general, this doesn't do great versus aggro. The first night I tested this I ran into a lot of Mage and some other slower decks like Warrior and Druid and was able to often outpace them. But when I tested it again later in an aggro pocket meta, I managed to get a narrow victory versus Shadow Priest but lost against another Shadow Priest, a Face Hunter and Questline Zoo.
Soul Rend is probably more reliable than Hysteria versus wide boards of roughly equal minions; that would be something to try. I was a bit worried bout burning combo pieces, but against aggro that probably doesn't really matter.
Raise Dead is useful against slower decks, since you can drop Soul Stealer and see if it sticks, but against decks that get on the board early the chance of it sticking is small and the 3 damage you take from the reload is relevant. So that would be another card to consider replacing to make the deck more resilient to aggro.
A problem with Questline Zoo in particular is that they can use Raise Dead to play Cult Neophyte again and again. Since we run The Dark Portal, our entire early game is spells, so this is very disruptive.
Maybe the solution is to queue this deck only if you're encountering a lot of control/combo opponents and queue a different build of Questline Warlock if you're encountering a lot of aggro.
Card trading is definitely something worth exploring, though its very likely to be impossible because it'll likely make the game cheaper to enjoy and thus I am 100% certain the design document will never get approved. But if there is even a chance of something like this happening on a limited basis, it might have an upside of increasing satisfaction.
Also, if we're going to get a death knight class at all, can the portrait be this Arthas? Looks perfect.
Its an interesting concept in theory, but in practice means not only do you need to balance and design around 9 classes, there's now an added consideration of possible bans strats. Its just adding more work for very little benefit.
There's also the problem that the experience will be very much linear for certain classes. The current most hated class right now is likely either warlock or mage, so does that mean most of the time the two classes will simply be a mirror match? Just think of the barrens meta. How many players will actually genuinely match against a priest, if a ban was possible? Chances are priest will eternally be matched up either against spell mage, deathrattle decks, control warrior, or a mirror match. Why'd anyone even want to play priest at all then?
Not exactly excited about this. Though I really wish I can just ban mage out of my experience right now, I'd much rather the devs just balance the game rather than hand me a couple of blinders.
Beyond how this will affect which deck is most popular, I wonder how this will be implemented for more casual folks. While Team 5 is always talking about reducing complexity, this change might would make the Standard ladder feel too 'serious' for some folks.
Perhaps it would only be available after Diamond 10 or Legend? Perhaps it would be opt-in?
Shadowverse has a pane of stats and other such things that only appears once one has reached Grandmaster (Legend, basically). Perhaps something similar - reaching Legend unlocks a new pane that can be opened from the matchmaking screen, with additional options and beta features.
I'm curious whether this will happen, and how it will if it does.
Woh, I don't know how I feel about this. One the one hand, the last time I actually was able to 'ban' something was Heroes of the Storm, and Warcraft 3 (ban maps).
I think on the one hand, banning helps you overcome "meta favorites". (In HOTS during it's peak, banning usually meants you banned some of the meta favorites, in order to create a more diverse environment). On the other hand, banning in Hearthstone is not a team endeavor, so I don't know how I'd feel about being able to ban one deck.
Well, given that this set is supposedly going to be more cohesive than the last few set releases, I hope they are smart enough to put the supporting cards in the same set as the champion this time.
