Always wanted Death Knight to be the first added class (Arthas w/o his helm as the basic hero), and after that, Monk (my boy Chen Stormstout!) along with a Pandaria-themed expansion..
I'm not a huge fan of Demon Hunter tbh, but it was cool to see they finally added a brand new class. I'll def be in the waiting room for the next one.
I can't disagree that this would be great, but there are a few moving pieces that makes this harder to do which is why I like us simply spotlighting community-made decks on the homepage and news feed instead, as Sinti pointed out.
The big one is communication. It can already be difficult to connect with the folks on the team due to timezones, it becomes much harder with potentially new people every week, using private messages and hopes that they respond. The amount of outreach to make it happen might be wasted time that could be better spent elsewhere. By keeping these big spotlights on the team, we have better control over what goes out and when it goes out. Also, this is all going to lead to something else in the near future which isn't going to be as open as creating a deck and writing a guide is; We're just getting things started.
While communication is the big one, we've also got stupid laws. Although our site terms and conditions make it quite clear that people are only allowed to post content they create on the site (not copy-pasting other people's stuff), that doesn't mean it isn't going to happen and it can be hard to vet this kind of stuff. If we link a deck in a round-up that includes content the user didn't make, so what? We'll delete the offending content and have someone else write a bit on it. If we make a whole news article out of it though, that article gets to vanish. There's a certain level of trust we have with people on the team, after all, they are bound by very different legal terms than anyone that just creates an account on the site, which makes needing a proper vetting process less required. Back to the terms and conditions though, we do have the authority to modify and reproduce content everyone creates on here. If we wanted to copy someone's deck guide and post it as a news article, we'd be more than entitled to doing so and no one could do anything about it if they no longer wanted it on the site. Realistically, I don't even see anything coming down to that, but it would be a bit of a dick move though so I really don't want to touch it.
I'm glad people are enjoying the longer-form content though and I hope that it encourages people to write some of it themselves. We don't have enough people writing good guides outside of the staff so if we can get to the point where that is more common, it would be fantastic.
I do want to open up our revenue sharing program to select deck creators in the future though, along with ownership related stuff so people can't just go on a blast and wipeout everything they've created on the site, so if that's something people are interested in, create some top-quality content to start building a portfolio to show us you know your stuff on a game knowledge side and on the other side of content formatting. I can't give you any specifics on it because it isn't something I'm ready to talk about yet (I'm still going through content creator applications from our last recruitment drive, it sucks being the head for everything at times :P) but when the time comes, we'll definitely make some kind of announcement and make it very clear what kind of criteria we're looking for.
... my issue with more classes is that eventually I believe they will not feel distinct anymore. For example, (I) feel like demon hunter does everything rogue does in standard but better.
If you look at all of DH's tools (and not just what it uses in the meta) you find there are 3 distinct sides to it. The issue is there isn't much overlap between them, and individually they are just tweaks on what other classes could do:
weapon / aggro is like rogue just with more reach;
big demons are essentially the same as what warlock does;
token decks are actually more unique because DH doesn't buff minions, but we already had several classes' takes on token decks so it doesn't add a whole lot.
What DH needs to do to become interesting is to be encouraged to mix these more. Token-aggro wouldn't be very novel, but mixing big demons in with the other two would be. Thinking back, that is how DH started with Imprisoned Antaen and Priestess of Fury.
The Shaman hero power is uniquely RNG-based (summons in random order) and rather unintuitive (always a different totem; stops working after all 4) compared to the other hero powers. Ever seriously discussed changing parts of it?
The fact that it's different because of those things isn't necessarily a negative to us, but we have discussed changing aspects of it. When we looked at the classic set and ways to change it, we also looked at the base hero powers and what classes were supposed to be good/weak at (Source)
We'll have some more details on that in a big future update but nothing to divulge just yet (Source)
Now that is very interesting, and it sounds like at least one base hero power will be changed. I'd be looking at druid mostly, because the class has never really been good at attacking with its hero (sorry Gonk, the Raptor) and it has always been a poor-man's rogue or mage hero power.
Maybe they also found an alternative to warlock's, as discussed in a previous AMA, though I expect changing that one would cause more complaints.
Completing achievements in casual isn't possible because it hurts the experience of achievement hunting.
I really don´t agree with this. It would be more fun to make a specific deck to complete an achievement and go with it on Casual, where you can try to complete it without any drawback and maybe even have fun to play your homebrew deck instead of competitive decks all the time.
This way it´s really frustrating to go on Ranked with a deck that has zero chance to win AND where the opponents aren´t really helping you to achieve it, cause you know, it´s a competetive mode and their goal is to win. Loosing ranks is in no way fun for anyone and it makes zero sense.
I have not played it, but I watched a few streamers play it. It's powerful but inconsistent. You have almost no heals, no board clears... weapons and murlocs with rush help a bit, but as others said, if you don't draw Alura or Nozdormu soon enough, that's bad news. Maybe it can still be refined.
Crafted it yesterday but didn't have much time to play with it. It seems pretty good, and I finally get to play with some new old gods. Heard from high legend players that it's quite a scary concept though.
Apparently High Abbess Alura has a 93% mulligan winrate on coin. To put that in perspective: cards like Prince Keleseth and Barnes hovered around 70% mulligan winrate.
Scary stuff, but we'll see how it pans out.
Now THAT is a scary statistic. I believe that only Warrior can reasonably contest that board after playing a Brawl, but they’ll be hard pressed to survive the clown onslaught afterwards
I don’t have Nozdormu the Timeless, which I believe is a core card, so I have not tried the deck. I faced this deck 6 or 7 times on ladder today and lost all but one of them handily. Seemed like the opponents always drew the nuts and had a board full of murlocs or a Scrapyard Colossus on turn 5. I was playing memey achievement hunting decks so it felt brutal to face this deck. The one win I had was a miracle- somehow I was able to contest the board and stole some enemy minions to deny the murloc prime etc.
I was genuinely annoyed not to get an achievement in casual.
I use casual to test drive decks to see if I enjoy them, if they work for me. I was playing and happened into a Mask lethal and didn't get the reward. You know what Dean? Wasn't fun. Mage usually isn't a class I play much (I wasn't even playing mage at the time) so I thought I'd get a bonus. Nope.
I am fine with this news. Demon Hunter is not interesting to me. He does not feel really distinct like HuntardHuntard said. I wish much more that they put their efforts into adding real creative cards, community support and beautiful art and cosmetics. (And fix the stupid crafting system)
I've tried a homebrew high roll alura deck before. It wasn't bad, I got many wins with it, but it felt cheap. Like draw Alura with an activator and you're solid. Otherwise you're just a murloc pally deck which honestly isn't the end of the world, but it just doesn't feel quite right with how I like to play hearthstone.
Ramp pally is theoretically sound, but its likely just worse than a standard murloc pally with Alura and Tip the Scales. It even has the same win condition, draw marquee card and roll on to victory. The real question is really how'd you intend to play when you don't draw your Nozdormu and stuck with 10 cost cards in your hand.
Dust is not fun. Gold is not fun. Currency is not fun. The things you buy with currency is fun, so if we are creating layers of decision that make you more worried about how you spend your currency, you are more likely to not ever get to the 'fun' thing. Cards in this example.
If you really want us to immediately jump into the bandwagon of 'fun', just grant us all Whizbang the Wonderful for free and you got it.
Its ironic that in order to remove this supposedly agonizing layer of decision making they then opted to grant us packs that will likely not ever get us anything to have fun with. Just give me options, and let me 'agonize' over it please. I don't think giving me less options would then proceed to make everything better.
I am curious what the rankings are for the 10 classes for wild players and why for which classes you like to play the most and are your favorite. By rankings I mean ranking the classes from number 1 to 10. Obviously this can change over time but it is still interesting to see what it is.

So Regiskillbin uploaded a new video featuring this really cool deck, which highrolls off of Tip the Scales and reportedly, it was apparently a “top tier deck” (I can’t tell if this was trolling or not). Has anyone actually fought it before or if it really is all that “good”?

Just like with the extra deck slots: we players must be stupid to deal with all these choices and possibilities...

LOL, Gold is not fun, at least it gaves us the option to "choose", I myself (maybe most of us) prefer to choose rather than fixated rewards anytime.
Why else would you remove our ability to choose what we want for ourselves? You are not making any sense Dean.

Makes me want to craft the dragon...
Ever feel intimidated?
I don't care, I just focus on the game. I'm more upset by classes which are a bad matchup for my deck.

Good. I'd rather have them work out all the problems DH has, than them throwing in even more half baked classes.

The intro to Demon hunter was great, the outcast mech is great. I just don't enjoy playing the character. It doesn't feel different enough.
A passive hero power would be cool.
