Can we now get an update, that we are actually able to earn XP for playing this game? Quests should be bonus and not main XP gainer. So we are able to reach these levels? At least it feels like it.
Wanan try building actual decks on this site with your Core Set Chnages in mind? I think this will give you important insight on whether you succeeded or not. I've done that to my own set and took some notes that can tell me if changes need to be made.
The issue isn't Duels and quests. The issue is Blizzard blatantly screwing over their casual modes for no reason. You basically have to pay money to earn gold now, unless you want to lose to 1. People who have meta ladder decks 2. People who have more choice and overpowered new heroes in Battlegrounds 3. People who have better starting decks in Duels.
I don't like Duels anyway, so whatever. I was never going to play it for quests. Now I won't play anything.
I didn't get my daily quest today either. Logged in at 1am this morning when it usually pops up. Logged in just now and still nothing. I already completed all my daily and weekly quests so I definitely have space for a new one.
Yes, yesterday I had an issue with not receiving a daily quest, I did not attempt a re-roll however.
This is an issue that they are aware of on reddit and their own forums. They are "looking into it" however it's possible the believe they fixed it with a recent hotfix.
I wouldn't include Illuminator because 3 of the 4 secret classes are designed to be bad at healing, and I'd worry that this card violates that too much.
I did consider including Avian Watcher, but now that I've created actual decks that use my reworked sets, I'd say she is fine, because turns out my sets have so much minion-based anti-aggro tools it can gladly take some counters to burst. Mage can definitely still use it, but remember that I removed Counterspell from Mage, so they definitely benefit from including Illuminator, as they can no longer prevent face damage spells.
This was one of my recent changes actually. Elementals in this rework are meh, so Blazecaller can push the deck a notch to be better. It's also one of few sources of burst that can bypass all these Taunt minions and even future cards like Spellward Jeweler, who (spoiler!) was initially in the set, but I instead opted to leave up Coldlight Seer.
Yea, that's kinda what I thought as well. It's just one of those plays that I tend to question cause it feels good, but I'm never quite sure if it's the right play.
There is never any reason to have a system that creates diminishing returns. That is the stupidest idea anyone ever devised. It encourages no one and discourages everyone. And to move from a system of flat rewards to one of diminishing returns is the height of stupidity. Fire every single person that okayed that change
Why not give 100g to us to choose what pack we want? So sad seeing a game that I love going this way. First Apex Legends, now HS...
Hey, Apex did more than a 180 on their new system. It’s now way easier than before to complete, AND they gave us 10 free levels. I’m level 40 on the battle pass just 16 days into the new season. That’s huge! If Blizzard does something similar, I will continue playing this game. If this ridiculously small change is all that they do, I’m out
I understand that some of the Duels content is gated by collecting Scholomance and Darkmoon Faire cards, and that the format allows you to choose cards from old sets, but it's completely ridiculous to suggest that you can't complete all of your quests for free in Duels. Most of the quests are just "Play 3 games as [Class A], [Class B], or [Class C]" - all of which are trivial to complete in Duels, even if you lose each game - and many of the other ones are things like "Play X [Tribal minions]" or "Play X cards that [meet cost criteria]". It's honestly incredibly easy to do all* of your quests for free in duels.
I get that Duels isn't as fun when you don't have full access to the hero powers and starting treasures, or when you're missing an old card that would really make your deck better. But your initial deck is only 15 cards - it doesn't need to be some optimal list made up of Wild format cards in order to have a decent time playing.
*"All" here obviously ignores the "challenge a friend" type quests
Decks look fun, but I don't think the old gods are as viable as blizzard wanted, having introduced them in an aggressive meta with limited removal options.
This card is actually very good in the right deck that can play and draw/generate a lot of cheap cards. Other than backstab, I don't think there are better removal options for rogue.
Easy to survive a turn and good with [Hearthstone Card (sethekk weilveaver) Not Found] in play for a big value turn. Unfortunately, the fact that it can also target spells in hand already discounted to 0 breaks this card for me and makes it way more clunky to build around or play efficiently.
Overall, I have fewer qualms with these changes than I usually do. Perhaps that is because there isn't the issue of class identity to disagree over.
The Good
I really like the Sky Daredevil and Floating Eyebat cards.
I have something of a soft spot for Sergeant Sally since I made a whole series of story-driven decks around her. So I can say - probably with more authority than the vast majority of players - that she has just the right amount of potential synergies to balance out her baseline low power and thereby make her a worthy inclusion in the Classic set.
I am similarly happy to see Gazlowe (who is one of a group of legendaries that I put together in a 1-mana spell rogue deck every few expansions). He'd be especially interesting in Standard because the pool of mechs will change with time.
Where stats were buffed, I agreed with them, except for 1 instance (see below).
The bad?
Not much to say here. Just a couple of points where I would be (overly?) cautious.
I wouldn't include Illuminator because 3 of the 4 secret classes are designed to be bad at healing, and I'd worry that this card violates that too much. I remember mage used this card quite a lot back in the day, but then again, perhaps secret mage and hunter are too aggressive now for it to matter much. Still, that can change quickly with set rotations.
I have a slight reservation about Blazecaller. I appreciate a bit of permanent elemental synergy, but perhaps the big burn card was not the best choice given the 2 primary elemental classes (mage and shaman) are both notorious for just needing a little extra burn to be pushed over a dangerous threshold. Again, I might be a bit stuck in the past with this mentality, and such decks just aren't as dangerous anymore, especially if they have to squeeze elementals in.
The outrageous
I'm sorry, but I have to protest about Magma Rager being replaced by/buffed into Ice Rager. His icy brother is still never going to be played, but at the cost of being a bit better it loses out on 1-health synergies, memes, and the lesson to new players about why 1 health is bad. For the record, I'm fine with the change to Silverback Patriarch because it retained its primary problem of having only 1 attack so the essence of the card was not lost.
Yeah, I've defended the rewards track based on these calculations, and I agree that many people are over-reacting to the value they'll be receiving over the course of an expansion. It's clearly more.
However, as I approach Level 25 (with no Tavern Pass XP Boost) I'm starting to get annoyed. I love Duels and have always been an avid Arena player. These modes cost gold. If I banked 300-450 gold at the start of an expansion (after buying packs), with some careful quest management, I was usually able to play four to five Arenas/week. Now that my levels are over 3,000 experience each, I'm having days where my gold doesn't increase. That.. feels bad, even knowing these calculations. It was nice having that total tick up each day, and maybe going for an extra three wins in ranked to round off another 150. It's somewhat irrational, but the lack of rewards as I get to the higher levels doesn't feel good.
Also, I was awarded an Arena/Duels Ticket for not completing my final Arena Run, was then rewarded one at Level 15, but was only able to redeem one. Something glitched and they're not tracked properly as a currency. Considering some people lost out on a week's worth of quests it's not a huge issue, but the lack of Tickets as a real currency is becoming an issue with Arena and Duels being fun and viable game modes. Then I got a weekly quest for Battlegrounds, a mode I typically ignore, but I had a decent amount of fun. I can't imagine paying $15 every expansion to access its full features.
I remember how disappointed everyone was years ago when Tavern Brawl launched. It sort of had promise, but ended up being a very, very lame game mode. It didn't feel like they had actually developed a new way to play. With Battlegrounds and Duels, they've succeeded. Arena, Duels, and Battlegrounds are at their best when there's broad participation. The barriers to play need to come down. Daily/weekly rewards need to be increased that help drive these players to these game modes. I personally think that completing all your weekly quests should bank you an Arena/Duels ticket ON TOP OF the experience. Allow players to unlock Battlegrounds Perks if they play enough in that mode.
This expansion is unique enough that constructed has a few more weeks of creativity before the meta is solved. At that point, if it takes 5000 experience to earn 150 gold, I'm not going to play much beyond completing my quests. I might even take a loooong break. I want to play Arena and Duels, but the grind to earn entry fees is going to become too high.
I have a theory: Blizzard did the math, calculated that the extra Epic and Legendary on the track were worth at least 15 packs, and so by their calculations this new system is equivalent to the old one. Now everyone is mad, and Blizzard is afraid to show their math because they don’t want to admit how overpriced the Legendaries are..

Since it's the weekend I'm back to doing the xp achievements for the faire. I have just done You Can't Take it Off while playing in wild.

I don't know what to tell you other than I just didn't get a quest for some reason yesterday and had open slots. I did get one this morning.
