As someone who buys the pre-order card back each expansion just from a collector point of view, I have mixed feelings on the Pre-order card backs returning. The ranked ones were fine with me as they were fairly easy to get, but a limited time purchase I made with my own money coming back for gold is a little :/ for me. On the other side, I am missing a few from before I started playing (TGT and earlier), so I can see the benefits. Overall not sure how I feel about this one.
From what I saw in the reveal, it looked like a lot of the levels awarded gold at many of the level ups - in denominations of hundreds per level 200-400, for example.
Probably won't see play, and it's here mainly to lower the quality of random 10 drop cards. However i can already forsee a trolden clip incoming of a mage casting Conjurer's Calling on Kalecgos, and generating a Darkmoon Rabbit, which saves that mage player their game by removing several HUGE minions. But overall it's not that good of a minion. And with highlander decks rotating out after the rotation, i feel like there isn't a "Highlander decks might love this minion, if their starved for big clears" excuse to call this card decent...
This 100%If I kept playing casually (do the daily, win 3 games besides), that is roughly 60-70 gold a day, so even if takes me a day and a half to level up at 50+, that is still more rewarding than the old system. Gonna be keeping an eye on that personal benchmark, but I am a little hopeful.
Okay, so we're finally going to get this whether we like it or not, so let's just have a go with it.
Positives are obvious. The better interface, the new hero portraits (which really surprises me how nice it looks), and there's only a slight pay to win element here (pay for the pass so you get 10% faster exp gain, which is the only objectively better perk compared to normal). There's no real cap to the amount of gold you can get (though its not obvious how much we need to play to max out), which is a nice idea too.
The negatives are less obvious, since we aren't really briefed on anything specific. Questions to ask;
- How fast the exp gain is for the average player. We don't actually know what the xp is required to max out, but its fair to assume that you can get there by just completing the quests every day (if this is not the case then that's a real bummer right here). Since there's actual reasons to get xp past the level cap (you get 150 gold for every level past) we can also assume that you would likely need to play as much as a legend player does to get anywhere near there.
- Whether the rewards will give out unwanted rewards like packs from previous expansions in lieu of gold. If blizz thinks a previous expansion pack is worth 100 gold, then they seriously need a stern clip across the ear. Also, I don't need arena passes, tavern passes, or the new duel passes. I need gold, and that's always preferable to others.
- How much gold we can theoretically gather up in time for the next expansion is not clear. But with the reward structure as we see it its likely that we wont exactly get that 8k gold per expansion as is customary.
- How obnoxious is the quests. Let's be clear here. I don't play battlegrounds to any regular amount of level. Just don't have the time. So if there is such a quest, I will obviously want to flip it. But it wouldn't help if I have to constantly flip only to see another annoying quest (play and win duels mode would probably be the worst of the lot) taunting me to complete or lose value. Let's hope there's as little as possible of such things.
Seems really strong, but you will play this as an 8/8 at the very least, on TURN 8. The only reason you would want this card in your deck, is if your playing some kind of Y'Shaarj, the Defiler control deck, so you get an immidiate 8/8 or 16/16 on the field, depending on which you play first. This card has potential, but it will need a slower meta, or matchup to become a good card, i think.
A good control shaman card. Deal 4 early game, better Consecration later into the game. Corrupting it might not be that hard, as shaman already has a good amount of 5+ mana cost cards.
In standard this will see play in either highlander shaman or in control shaman.
In Wild this will probably see play in Big shaman, as that deck probably likes a card like this. Haven't really played that deck, but i'm guessing they probably like another board clear in the mid-late game.
I guess like Joust it will fail if the mana costs are equal. That might actually be quite relevant, especially in a class that doesn't need any more card draw.
The natural follow up to Lorekeeper Polkelt. Do druid combo decks even want this in standard? This combo might work in Quest druid to get to the more impactful cards like Cenarius or Hidden Oasis or something we haven't seen yet, but I remain skeptical.
In standard: Alright, so we got a 5 mana minion, that will probably be around 6/6 or 7/7 stats when played around turn 5. Also it's a mech, which is weird to see in a priest deck. HOWEVER that's a good thing for control priest, as this gives them an additional minion to ress with targetted ress cards like N'Zoth, God of the Deep. However despite that, it's still a bad minion to pull with normal ress cards like [Hearthstone Card (Mass Ressurection) Not Found]. Which is good, cause **** single-player ress priests.
In wild: This card won't see any play. There are way better cards there like Convincing Infiltrator, and most priest decks are either Reno priest, quest (the deathrattle quest) priest or ress/big priest. The only notable synergy it has is that late game you can magnetize Zilliax onto it for a bigger minion. But that combo seems best in a more control priest kinda deck that doesn't ress, which will see no play as there are better options honestly.
My guess is the only retroactive stuff will be Collection based, or overall wins for a class... The 12 wins in Arena is completing a 12-0 run, and the game doesn't really keep track of whether your past 12 win keys were 12-0, 12-1, or 12-2.
Its basically a removal card most of the time, and a pretty evil one too. Basically if both parties were neck in neck on the late game, this one will completely flip the board and require either another Silas to counter or you just lost your best minion to a tavern brawl gimmick.
If it ever catches on, it will instinctively ensure that all good minions past turn 7 will always be in the middle. But I doubt it will catch on to be honest.
Cool to see the Old Gods back in standard. All the cards are interesting.
Yogg is just... Yogg. A pure RNG Roulette. Good for those who only care about fun. A nightmare for those who despise extreme variance.
Y'Shaarj is a value engine for the corrupt keyword but getting full value from the cards can be difficult as playing him costs all your mana and the corrupt effects require you to play a card that costs more than the cards with corrupt in them. You will need a Coin and a 1-cost card to trigger them. Or find a way to discount Y'Shaarj below 10 mana. Priest can do this very easily with Fate Weaver. Or maybe i misunderstood how corrupt works? I didn't watch the stream so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.
N'Zoth is a neutral full board resurrect card. That's probably already enough to make some people hate it but making him work isn't as simple as Mass Resurrection or old N'Zoth, the Corruptor. He only works for tribal minions. That means you won't see him resurrecting a full board of the most annoying minions of all time (Obsidian Statue, Convincing Infiltrator) as those aren't eligible for his effect. Getting the most out of him requires a good mixture of different card types that usually don't synergize well with each other. Also, the current pool of eligible cards isn't exactly great so he is going to be really dependent on whatever they decide to print in this expansion.
C'Thunn... Oh boy! This one is something else entirely. He is essentially the Exodia of Hearthstone. I'm not sure how he works but i believe you have to assemble all pieces and play them one by one once you have all of them to complete his body. Then you can play him and win the game (most likely). He is obviously better in classes with a lot of card draw (DH, Warlock) and it could be completely busted in those classes. Maybe i'm wrong and he works in a different way? I really don't know but this is certainly the coolest card by far.
The achievements isn't something i care about a lot but it's cool that they finally added them. And the new progression system seems fine but the only way to be sure is to experience it so once we get to 2021 then we all should know if it's better or worse. I highly doubt it could be worse than what we have right now but it might not be as good as we expect. It depends on how fast we can grind those levels and how much gold we can earn (and how fast as well) after completing the 50 levels.
Mostly a slightly worse Muster for Battle when played at 3 mana, but it's a pure upgrade when played later, because then it's a cheaper Stand Against Darkness, which funnely enough is a card from the Whispers of the old gods expansion. The reason that's funny is because we got a better reprint of Stand Against Darkness in a new old god related expansion... lol.
In standard: Good slot in libram Pure Paladin, as this gives more buff targets. Good card in my opinion.
In Wild: OH NO IT'S ODD COSTED! ODD Paladin will use this card 1000%. Also this will certainly see play in some kinda token/dude paladin, with all the Silver Hand Recruit synergy, like Level Up!. This card seems better than i first saw it during the reveal stream.
No flavor text currently in-game, nor in official playhs site (even though the other revealed cards do have them). I'd imagine he'll eventually get one though.
Its an underwhelming announcement, honestly. Speculations was rife, and I really thought its either limited wild, or some kind of new mode with new rules, but the reveal being this? Dungeon runs were frustrating enough, and now I get to pit myself against a human opponent with it. Is that really the kind of A-game we were anticipating early this year when the hearthstone development map was shown to us?
And on top of that unwanted cake, is the cherry of it all. If this article is correct, the assorted hero powers and treasures will eventually require actual cards to unlock, guaranteeing that not everyone would have access to the whole thing without having first paid something somewhere, whether its gold, dust, or ehem real money.
Sorry blizz, but this is one thing that I would probably never get to really enjoy.
id so love if more old portaits came back, aslo alleria/magni/medivh could come back and be in bundle with class packs(liek current rexxar one fore xample) in future.
As long as i can get my 9k gold worth of stuff by the end of 4 months, i'll be happy about it, since this system seems to be a lot more interesting to play than those daily quests. Let's just hope it's not just a shiny new thing to distract us from the fact that it'll reduce our resource gathering between expansions...
Honestly, if the xp can be earned quick enough without the pass then I think it's mainly a buy for those that want the cosmetics. I may skip it the first time, or at least wait a month to see how my progression is going before I even consider buying the pass.
This card seems good, but i feel like it will need some time to get used a lot. With some time, i mean after the rotation next expansion, so it's biggest competition at the 2 mana spell: "draw a card" slot: Rising Winds rotates out. (And Rising Winds can give tempo) But even then there still is Fungal Fortunes that get's preferred a lot more in spell heavy druid decks. But Guess the Weight will see some play in a while in more minion heavy decks.
But i do like the effect of the card. It's better in the hands of someone who is either: skilled enough to make good guesses based on the cards they know that they haven't drawn yet, or the average person that uses a deck tracker.

Amazing Arena card. For standard, will need to wait for more Corrupt support to properly evaluate it

Zola the Gorgon then? And the leaderboard is in this thread’s OP
New Priest Minion - Fortune Teller

Closest to a 12-0 that I've gotten was 12-0 AFTER losing my first two games... so 0-2 turned into 12-2. Does that count?! Please?!?! LOL

Definitely did. Wow I completely missed that. Good eye.
