I really like this card. I just don't like it in Demon Hunter. It feels like Team 5 is playing catch-up fro all the DH cards and just by happenstance making it to where DH has WAY MORE tools than every other.

  • Devout Pupil is a New Paladin & Priest Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion

    Decent if uninteresting.

Its basically a card for libram paladin since thats probably the only deck that can get this card to within 2-0 mana most of the time at an adequate time frame. It might just make the cut of pure libram paladin, but a little too weak for non-pure decks.

  • New Demon Hunter & Warlock Minion - Soulciologist Malicia

This is a good card in a dedicated Soul Fragment deck, but unlike many of the other Soul Fragment cards it's unplayable outside of that. This scales directly with the amount of soul fragments in your deck, and I don't really see people having that many of them in their deck since one of the best things you can do with them is destroy them.

  • New Warlock Minion - Shadowlight Scholar

great statline and 3 damage? wow this is insane actually and all you need to do is play decent cards? I am in.

Wow, totally didn't expect a new shuffle mechanic system, definitely look like fun!

  • New Demon Hunter & Warlock Minion - Soulciologist Malicia

reminds me of Blastmaster Boom, only much faster (in terms of board control).

if soul fragment decks see play this IS in the deck.. probably day 1 craft for me.

Funny how they release cards that revolve around a mechanic card that no one  can see or know yet.

It's at the end of this post: Soul Fragment: Casts when Drawn, Restore 2 health to your hero.

  • New Demon Hunter Weapon - Marrowslicer

Has a lot of synergy in the class also with the help of the hero power hits the 5 hp breakpoint to kill most 4/5 drops.

might even see play without other soul fragment cards as it's 8 damage over 2 turns.

  • Keymaster Alabaster is a New Legendary Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion

Stats-wise it's fine, but no one runs War Golem for a reason. As for effect, we need to first establish this card never sees play in aggro or fast midrange, because you never run 7 mana cards in those decks. So as control, It seems strong but take a second to think about how it plays against various archetypes.

Against Control you can get board clears, healing and value. Only one of those is good, and its value. Like if you get a galakrond you're nutting. But as a control deck versus another control deck, you don't need board clears or healing. Most of the time, this card is bad. If you wanted a threat there are better choices. If you wanted value, there are better choices.

Against Aggro, you get burn and small minions. Neither of those are good against aggro. To win this matchup you need taunt, healing and board clears. Alabaster is none of these, and it never finds you one either. It's a War Golem which lets you pay 1 mana for 2-3 mana cards, none of which matter because you'll be dead by the time those cards can attack on Turn 9. Also, a lot of aggro right now is highly synergistic. Totem Shaman runs totems, enough said. Demon Hunter runs attack synergy and weapons.

Against Combo this is even more useless. Either you find worthless combo pieces, or once again, board clears and draw. If you wanted draw or board clears, you should've put them in your own deck.

This card runs into the same issue that thief Priest cards had - it's that enemy cards are generally not good against the enemy deck. They fixed the problem with Thoughtsteal by making it cheap. This is not cheap.

I think the only place this is good is against midrange, and only if you get lucky and hit a 4+ mana card, which is not guaranteed. If I had to name a deck this goes in I think Embiggen Druid could use this well, but even then stuff like Winged Guardian and the Hydra thing are better because they have relevant keywords.

  • New Demon Hunter Minion - Soulshard Lapidary

The class has synergy for this kind of effects with cards like Warglaives of Azzinoth or "if you attacked this turn do X" but you can get a similar effect for 2 mana and no requirement with Twin Slice, I don't see this card as the reason to run soul fragments in DH it's  more of  a card that will be there.. the reason to run soul fragments is the 3 mana Duskbreaker.

  • New Druid & Shaman Spell - Runic Carvings

I really love this card. It thematically perfectly blends the two classes, it mechanically helps a strategy they both like to use, it's strong, it's skilltesting (is the overload worth the rush?) and the art of the tokens looks really cool.

  • New Demon Hunter & Warlock Spell - Soul Shear

2 mana deal 3 damage has seen play with Frostbolt and Darkbomb.

While this won't allow you to target face like the previously mentioned spells, this set has shown quite a few 1 drops with 3 health that this can remove.

It's primary function, however, is an additional source for the soul fragments you'll use to build your deck around for the additional life gain or for the additional bonuses the Warlock and Demon Hunter minions can use once these are shuffled in.

  • 9 New Demon Hunter & Warlock Cards Revealed for Scholomance Including the Warlock & Demon Hunter Legendary

Hopefully just one Fragment generator is not enough for Odd DH.

    Interesting mechanic tho.

  • New Demon Hunter Minion - Shardshatter Mystic

Seems strong to me, the soul fragment cards seem good enough as well so control DH new meta?

    3 mana Duskbreaker?

Edit: on second thought... THIS CARD IS INSANE.

  • New Warlock Minion - Void Drinker

this card= tempo and tempo=good. earth elemental without overload? just play one of the fragment cards? easy to do actually..

    5 mana 7/8 with overload (0) :D

  • New Neutral Minion - Keymaster Alabaster

This card is average at best.  I've played the thief too many times and received utter unusable garbage (especially against warlock and shaman) for me to believe this card is above average.  Oh, and if you are playing a non-weapon class, I hope you enjoy that weapon buff or weapon tutor card!  Academic Espionage was not even close to being broken at half the cost so I don't think this is either.  It has niche uses in maybe mill druid as an alternate win condition or in games that get close to fatigue to buy you one more cheap resource.  This will only be played in very specialized decks.

  • Lab Partner is a New Mage Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion

It looks like they are pushing some sort of Tempo Spell Damage Mage.

  • Devout Pupil is a New Paladin & Priest Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion

Pretty sure this card is bad -

First off, I doubt anyone thinks this will see play in Priest. The buff spells Priest plays are in general too big to be able to get this out early, so Galakrond Priest doesn't want this (and also why would they even want a 4/5 to begin with). The only Priest deck running small spells is Tempo Priest, but that deck needs early game, not a card which is conditional on you having played other cards - that deck's biggest weakness is card draw, so having a dead card is devastating.

Paladin is where this is mostly considered, but looking at Libram Paladin I'm not convinced this goes in. Think about this card versus control and then aggro. Against Control, Libram Paladin doesn't have the early game to curve out and kill their opponents, so a lot of the time you play to a kind of value-y slow burn, where you chip them down over time by using heal to maintain board control. If you look at the deck, it lacks strong 6 and 7 drops to finish out a game. Playing a 0 mana 4/5 could help here, but only if it's 0-2 mana. When I'm playing Libram Pally, if I don't draw Libram of Wisdom, I'm playing 2-3 spells on my minions before turn 7. And if your strategy is only good when you draw another card, especially in a class like Paladin which lacks card draw, I doubt it'll be good.

Against aggro, we need to consider how often we can stick buffs on our minions. The answer is not much. Most forms of Aggro right now are close to Midrange strategies - they trade. Which means your Yeti is coming down too late to impact the board most of the time. This card is made even slower because it lacks keywords which interact with enemy minions. Our win condition is healing and taunting, and this card does neither.

Overall, unless fast aggressive buffs are printed for Paladin or Priest I don't quite see this card making the cut.

  • New Warlock Spell - School Spirits

just being Volcanic Potion is good enough warlock got a TON of control tools this expansion it's currently slightly weaker since the galakround decline but it might be enough to give it new life.

You definetly can't play alexstraza and zephyrs with those cards though.

  • Runic Carvings is a New Druid & Shaman Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion

I can't express how I love the concept of this card.

I hope I can make good use of it.

  • New Demon Hunter & Warlock Spell - Soul Shear

2 mana deal 3 are always playable specially if they come with healing attached, Nether Breath is obviously better when you have a dragon but you don't always have a dragon and more removal.. is great.

  • 9 New Demon Hunter & Warlock Cards Revealed for Scholomance Including the Warlock & Demon Hunter Legendary

They are good before you complete the quest because if you tap into a Soul Fragment then you just drew 2 cards when you would normally draw 1 card, and so your quest gets completed faster.

  • Keymaster Alabaster is a New Legendary Card Revealed for Hearthstone's Scholomance Academy Expansion

I like this card a lot, not least for the character behind it.

It's just too slow for the Wild Tempo decks I tend to play... :-/

  • 9 New Demon Hunter & Warlock Cards Revealed for Scholomance Including the Warlock & Demon Hunter Legendary

You know, I also kind of hope this ends up being weak. I am very interested in this mechanic and it looks like tons of fun, but I feel like a lot of people feel the same way, and I don't want day 1 to just be everybody playing Soul Fragment decks and then it has to be nerfed 3 days in.

I don't play Paladin, but I really like how they did Libram Paladin. They made a new mechanic and made it very interesting, but a little bit under-powered. This way deck brewers can get excited about trying to make this cool new mechanic work, and then later when they buff it everybody is happy because now all of the different brews they made are viable.

A good strategy would be to make the new and interesting mechanic under-powered on purpose, and make the more generic stuff slightly over-powered. That way on release everybody is trying to make different strategies work in different ways, but ultimately fail to build a powerful deck. Then half way through release they can nerf the generic stuff and buff the interesting stuff. Now people praise blizzard for making good balance updates, and they can try the old stuff like it is new again.

  • Harry Potter flavour ?

    Scholomance Academy = Howgarts

    Soul Fragment = Horcrux
