Honestly his nickname sounds familiar to me, but I never heard of him, who knows why he decided to end it.. in our current time I can think of a very big reason why people would suddenly decide there's no hope (the Corona pandemic) and the loneliness might feel infinite to those who don't have many friends..
And who knows what was going on on his life as well.. anyway, not much to do but remember the good he did while he was here, it's always sad when people decide they have no more hope...
I don't know about this specific case and I don't seek to cast judgement, but I don't agree there is never any justification for rational suicide.
However, it's the responsible thing to do to engage with family, friends, your Doctor, mental health services or helplines in your area if you are considering ending your life. That's what I did.
I didn't know of him until today, but nobody deserves to go through that pain and die at such a young age, and it's said that we lost such a beloved streamer and a part of Hearthstone's history. All prayers go out to his friends and family.
I like the mirror stats of Davy and the ship. Summoning the Sailor is a good idea. The watermark fits well and is a nice alternative to the Palm Tree most of us used. You found great art, they are fitting together very well.
Concerns:
1) It's still a huge chunk of stats. You'll get 13/13 over 3 bodies for 7 mana! That's almost Dragonqueen Alexstrasza's powerlevel for 2 mana less. I think I'd prefer the effect to be a Deathrattle, which would also make it easier to fulfill the condition because Davy himself counts toward it.
2) Davy's art looks a little too big, is it possible to zoom out a tiny bit? If not, at least try to move him a bit to the right - the legendary dragon's horn is too close to Davy's head for my taste.
3) Are you sure you want The Flying Dutchman to summon a sailor at the end of each turn? That way, your opponent has to deal with 2 of them each of their turns if he can't remove the ship the turn after it was summoned (one sailor at the end of your opponen'ts turn, one at the end of yours). That's really powerful!
4) While the flavor is there if you look at the art and the effects, I don't see a reason why this should be a warlock card. I guess that can't be helped, though.
2, thanks for mentioning the thing about the art. I will fix that before submitting. 4, I might make him neutral if it was allowed, but with the class restrictions Warlock seems like the best class. 3, I wanted it to make pirates on both players turns because otherwise it just felt like a slightly bigger Hogger. 1, I wanted him to have more stats than average because he is the only payoff for playing pirates in warlock, so I wanted it to be worth it. You compared him to Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, who is a build around late game card with way more stats than you would expect from a 9 mana card. Davy Jones is filling that same role for Pirate decks.
This is tragic. Anyone that has ever been impacted by suicide knows the trauma that it leaves behind. I truly hope that anyone that contemplates this looks for other options.
Maybe the new game mode would be the fabled 'limited wild' mode where they rotate the standard there within 3-6 expansions throughout hearthstone history. Would be a decent way to attract the older players to come back, and would be less daunting than wild itself. It would also be a lot easier to balance, and encourages players to buy old packs.
As for the expansion incoming, I wouldn't be too surprised if it only happens to be purple, but otherwise unrelated to traditional purple related stuff in WoW. Boomsday was, if Im not mistaken, completely unrelated to the void and yet manages to get in on the same purple theme. Also, its likely that the expansion would be less serious and more lighthearted. We already had the 'serious' expansion in AoO, so the other 2 will likely be more silly.
This was tough news to wakeup to and even tougher to report on. I don't think I've done enough to highlight his accomplishments.
I didn't know Reckful well personally. We had only spoken a handful times in the early Hearthstone days, but you could tell he was a great person with huge aspirations. Going from competitor to game developer, with the goal of creating a game that would help connect people together in this world where we're less connected than ever even with the increase in global connectivity, was great to see and I'm sad that he won't be able to see it through. From my understanding, Everland was going to release this year in some capacity and they had great success with the tests they had run. When he needed that personal contact the most, something he was creating for others, it wasn't there for him.
I liked the tweet Asmongold put out today and it summarizes everything quite well.
I hope this will be a wakeup call to everyone who creates a reward structure around ridiculing and mocking mental illness We can be better as a community and we will be better.
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if a few days after the Felfire Festival ends they'll have a video of someone cleaning up the festival grounds and finding something that gives a big clue to the expansion with the actual announcement coming the following week. At least that is what I would do if I were on their marketing team. :)
Missed last week's competition(s), but I had to make sure to get back for the last week.
...
I figured Gadgetzan was a good place to work a Pirate into another class, so this is guy is meant to synergize with Grimy Goons handbuffing. Let me know if this is a good statline for it, since I have to plan around the handbuffs.
I'll try to come back and give feedback later today.
I was going to say something like "maybe he would be better positioned in the Hunter, flavor-wise", but the Hunter's handbuffing mostly went to Beasts in Gadgetzan, so I guess not. He just doesn't feel very...Paladin-y, which is a big problem for many of our Pirate Paladin cards.
Also, weapon buffs go a lot farther than minion buffs. A 6/5 minion for 3-mana is great, but a 6/5 weapon on top of that is insane.
Agreed. I've always thought Whispers of the Old Gods was the best expansion, but I always felt my opinion was biased since I started playing Hearthstone in April 2016 about a week before Old Gods released.
I am pretty pumped about a Darkmoon Faire expansion though! Long overdue! Should be at least some Old Gods references in there!
Also they would need to ban some highlander cards... having too many of those in a deck is too much highlander is already too good as it is.. not sure if those cards will be banned on combinations (complex bans) or just from the whole mode.. that would be the only way I see to support both that sort of mode and the normal one.
I'm always super skeptical about dual-class constructed HS, because unlike other TCG/CCGs its balance is driven entirely by the classes being separate. Plus I'm a strong believer that classes should always have major weaknesses, which is a feature that dual classes greatly diminish.
That is not to say it doesn't have huge potential for fun and I'd love to try it out in a truly casual setting, but I can say the same thing about Wild, where I already know that most of the scope for casual fun is actually an exercise in masochism.
Having said that, the ban list idea might salvage it. In fact if it is a ban list for specific class combinations (e.g. you could use Shadowjeweler Hanar with all classes except Mage, Paladin and Hunter), then I could genuinely see it working very well, so long as Blizz updates the ban lists frequently enough.
Yeah, honestly, if they do the whole wild cards in standard thing again... 2 or 3 weeks tops. It was a ton of fun but then there was zero desire to play.
I would LOVE another Old Gods expansion. Whispers of the Old Gods was the damn pinnacle of Hearthstone's popularity and with good reason. Thinking back on it, I still get joy when I think about all the amazing artwork Blizzard commissioned that was painted on the sides of buildings around the world. That was a sweet marketing campaign!
It was such unique timing on that set with the game growing and growing. I do wonder if pulling another large Old Gods expansion would see the return of a ton of players. With the tech they now have available, there could be so many extra features put into such a thing that the pure awesomeness would be tough to miss.
Darkmoon Faire definitely has some old gods ties though... maybe there is hope for December.
On your second part, I don't think it's a huge negative to have some cards that just aren't going to work out. Yes, it would suck to have dead cards but that's also something that is so exciting about it! Imagine stitching together some fan-favourite expansions and then some of those favourites just don't work out. It forces everyone to actually go deckbuilding and learning what new stuff is overpowered.
Blizzard could also have the opportunity to get us buying older packs again with this, they are back in the in-game store after all! I like to think they may offer some discounted packs for older expansions that reappear in the format and potentially give us quests that give us those types of packs for playing the new mode. Doing a dedicated "format pack" that could have its content rotate based on the currently available expansions, akin to the Year of the Dragon pack, would also be a nice touch.

Ok another idea since my last one was not that great. This time we have a captain that needs to be Inspired to fire his cannons.

Needs to be 10 of the same packs.
So you dont reach any of that 10 packs 1 legendary pity timer if you open 9 packs of different expansions.

I think dual-class constructed would be too difficult to manage. You'd basically have to design every card in the game as if it were a Neutral card.
Pity timer broken?
Anyone else not opening legendaries? I've open 44 packs from ashes since the bundle came out and no legendaries
I opened the bundle for 20, i bought 15 with coins, 4 from the season, 3 from felfire 2 from twitch for a total of 44 ashes packs
I also bough 10 dragons packs with coins and opened the rest of the felfire packs
I have opened 100 plus ashes packs
