  • The New Best Decks In Runterra Post Patch 1.2

Mate, I don't even play Runeterra but I do check the forums regularly. Your stubborn insistence on maintaining the same spacing despite numerous comments is childish. Furthermore, your refusal to recognise and engage with criticism that references your arrogant, know-it-all tone is narcissistic. Stop speaking in an authoritative tone and start using a thoughtful, inquisitive one. Rather than stating that something is obvious, say that it has happened a lot to you whilst playing. Not everyone has the same games or experiences. Rather than listing your (in-)correct predictions to show off and ego-rub, engage with others here and discuss how the meta has changed. By listing as you have you invite challenges and criticism rather than disagreement and discussion. Rather than dismissing KANSAS and Shivershine and trying to redirect the discussion, apologise and change - it's fine, no one will hurt you if you do. If anything, people will be more willing to engage with what you write if you recognise, apologise, and, most importantly, CHANGE.

Apologies to everyone for the rant, I needed this off my chest because this poster has hit a couple of nerves over the last few days. And Nifty129, even if you continue to post as you do about Runeterra, please, for the love of all that is good, stop taking up 50% of a page to do so.

KANSAS - Your latest iteration of Trick Gift is much better. Doesn't seem like much of a Warlock card, but they are evil.

Demonxz95 - I like Explosive Pinata the most. You have to build around using it, which always makes cards more interesting to me.

MrRhapsody - Wine and Cork Shot seems amusing to me, although it is missing a rarity gem and watermark. Fix those and I think you're set.

Dermostatic - I like it. The Start of Game is pointless in terms of gameplay, but you're still getting a 4/3/6 Beast with Divine Shield (which is really good). And if your opponent doesn't want to celebrate, that's what Squelch is for lol

Wailor - I like Wedding Officer the most: reminds me of my Lich spell "Chains of Kel'Thuzad", which did something rather similar. The gameplay effect is interesting and leads to "I feel clever" moments when you pile on a lesser minion to kill a bigger one.

anchorm4n - Not going to use your unicorn from the Spacial Awareness post? I like Confetti Bomber, but the existence of Risky Skipper makes it really sketchy. At least the Bomber will have rotated by then.

Alfi - Amusing use of that particular artwork. I think your card is basically good-to-go, although you might want to use a different watermark (I would suggest the custom Magetheridon/demon one, or the custom present).

MenacingBagel - You might have to specify what kind of "golden Legendaries" you're talking about with Reno, otherwise this could spawn golden Legendary weapons or spells (unless that's the intention?). Beyond that, I like it.

I like the Legendary version of Reveler Reno. Firework Fanatic's effect is too similar to Bombs, so it doesn't seem all that interesting.

Not sure if 4 mana is the right call. Compared to Time Out!, it also destroys your Armor and it's vunerable to Platebreaker.

The last version of Trick Gift is your best card. Feasting Troll could improve in the flavor department. Plus, the artwork isn't a troll, but a goblin or something like that.

I haven't played Diablo, so maybe I'm not the "target" of this card, but it seems a bit bland.

I like the flavor, but it's a bit too wordy.

I also think the framing of the artwork could be better. I think the Goblin should be the main focus of the card itself and the Piñata should be the focus of the token (which you should totally make)

  • Party Planning 101 - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Lots of cools cards for that one, no better incentive for creativity than prizes, heh? Anyway, here's my feedback

    Show Spoiler

Bagel: Second Reno is pretty coll. Might be a little too slow and greddy, but it stills cool nonetheless.

Linkblade: Cool, but what about "return to your previous amount of armor" or something, for the current wording makes you actualy loose armor instead of gaining.

    Alfi: Love it, thats all.

anchorm4n: Maybe 4 health is too much, it could deal 20 damage to the opponent with the right play, and more 20 with the second copy, maybe making the pinãta 3 Health or making this a legendary would be better. But in general, i like it.

Wailor: I suppose Happy Hour reduces the cost of enemy spells too, in that case i like a lot, otherwise it's problably broken and should cost more. Surprise Party is nice in theory but problably unplayable in pratice. Wedding Officer is just ok.

Dermostatic: I know it's more of a joke card but it seens broken. Above average stats, Divine Shield, Beast tag and no downside? It's Framewreathed Faceless levels of good. Maybe reducing the stats would make it a actual fun and interesting card instead of a turn 4 god.

KANSAS: I'll assume it summons the beast for you, in that case i like it. Maybe reducing the present Health would be better, since classes with access to buffs like Priest, Paladin or Druid could easily abuse a free 4 health minion on turn 2, making it unkillable and turning it againts you. Yes, you could play it later and pop it right away, but then you would loose all the possible Tempo it could provide earlier.

Demonxz95: Firework Specialist is nice, but problably it should have less stats, for Mech Hunter has enough Mechs to make it a constant 5 mana Priestess of Fury. The Pinãta is cool too, but it's kinda scary with cards like Nine Lives, Play Dead, etc. A GVG watermark would still make it flavourful while keeping it away from those cards in standard, in wild it should be fine i guess.

  • Warrior Wavering

So I'm desperate to play some of these hot new warrior decks that are storming their way up ladder, but am unsure what my best crafting options are.

I currently have The Boom Reaver, Blastmaster Boom and Armagedillo, plus two of each class epic from the Classic, Rise of Shadows and Ashes of Outlands sets and the cards from the Galakrond's Awakening solo adventure.  I also have a big pile of dust, but the reason for that is that I'm very stingy about what I craft with it!

I'm looking for advice on what are currently the best legendaries to craft for the class, as I see a lot of different variants of pirate, bomb/control and enrage warrior, all of which seem to use different combinations of the cards listed below:

Grommash Hellscream - appears in a lot of decks, and is Classic, so shouldn't rotate

Ancharrr - seems to be a must-have, but is from Year of the Dragon, so will rotate sooner

Deathwing, Mad Aspect - seems to be less ubiquitous than other legendaries, plus it's Year of the Dragon

Kargath Bladefist - Year of the Phoenix, so will stick around for a good while, but only seems to be used occasionally

Teron Gorefiend - another Phoenix card, and neutral, but seems to be declining in popularity since egg warrior gave way to enrage builds

I also realise a lot of decks run Livewire Lance and Bloodsworn Mercenary,  again cards from Year of the Dragon.

So, what should I invest in? I'm looking for fun, competitive decks, but also value for dust. I also subscribe to the philosophy of 'craft decks, not cards', but figure many of the cards I've listed above will fit into a range of warrior decks.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

All of your cards are party-themed which is great. Wine & Cork shot is functional for priest, although I don't quite get the flavour. Arena Cheerleader'll get a party started I'm sure, but the effect is quite bland unfortunately. Shaked Soda is a good secret, just a few points. The name should be Shaken Soda, as it's the correct past participle of 'shake' (shaked isn't a word). The effect text should read "Secret: When your opponent casts a spell, deal 6 damage randomly split among all enemies". It's a little wordier and might bring you over the 4-line limit, but it would be in line with standard Hearthstone text formatting. Of the three, I personally prefer Shaken Soda: I like the flavour and it works well as a secret against aggro decks.

Firework Specialist is certainly well-balanced, perhaps even too restricted. I don't think it needs the "If you control a mech…" condition, but I see where you're coming from with it. Explosive Piñata has Depth Charge vibes. I like it, and the art is fantastic. It's cool that it's Neutral so that all classes can toy around and try make it work. I see Priest/Hunter players definitely trying to slot it into their decks.

  • Anyone else ticked about losing golden epic rewards?

I noticed that all the rares I got this month were cards that I had golden copies of, but not yet two regular copies. Which allowed me to disenchant the golden ones for extra dust.

Note that I have two copies of every Standard rare currently. Did the same thing happen to other players in the same situation?

  • Spacial Awareness - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Here is the design I've been dwelling on. The idea is that it is a fantastic target for buffs, but with the big drawback that any damage or removal to one copy effects the other (or all others if you manage to make more). I'm struggling to find a balanced cost/stat combo for the effect, so I'd appreciate any help with that. Also, I am aware the art is awful and already trying to find something better.

    Feedback!:

    Show Spoiler

    @BasilAnguis

I really like Gravity Well. It is tough to cost because removal is so variable based on how much a class has already and what exists in the meta. I like it better as a Warlock card, but Warlock is all about trade-offs and getting extra effects from manipulating the game state. What about something akin to Crush? Say, a 6-mana that reads "Destroy a minion. If it has more than 7 health, this costs (4) less." Cost changing based on the target hasn't really been done before though, so idk how exactly that would work…

Comet is very nice thematically, and I think it is costed fairly. No criticisms!

Crack in Time is really interesting. It would definitely be a fun new tool for Mage, and fits their theme of being able to "delay the inevitable" with things like Freeze and Ice Block. Again the cost is tricky, but I think you have it right. It is sort of a weaker Maiev Shadowsong battlecry. Maiev only sacrifices about 1 mana worth of stats for it, and it lasts twice as long, but, she is legendary and only a one-of. As a rare twofer, I think 3 mana is good.

    @Beatdoof

Constellar's Envoy would be a nice addition to the sparse Neutral dragons, but it seems quite weak to me. Reducing the cost of all Dragons, or even all cards in your hand would be reasonable for that stat loss and with the effect as a Deathrattle. Alternatively, you could up the stats to 4/5 and make it a Battlecry. Then it would be a really useful tool for tempo-oriented Dragon decks.

Touch The Stars is a really interesting concept, and with a little tweaking could be a brilliant design. I would suggest making it affect the right-most card instead, so that it combos nicely with Stargazer Luna. With that it would suddenly become a powerful tool for burn decks, making it worth the high cost. (I wrote this before seeing your new version, but honestly I'd still prefer the old version, but with that change. Up to you though, as the new one is also good and I kinda like the image of a Mage tossing out cards from both sides of their hand to burn through everything.)

    @anchorm4n

It took me a second to understand Ebb and Flow, but now I get it the tide theme is really cool, and taking that leap from "space' to moon to tides is ingenious. I really like the effects, but I think the Murlocs one is a bit too powerful. Even with the added unreliability, 14/14 of stats for 7 is pretty crazy, especially when they are the ever-synergistic Murlocs. I'd say 2/1s would be much fairer, and just seems right for Murlocs, due to matching the stats of both Murloc Raider and Murloc Tidehunter. The power of giving Shaman Flamestrike is I think fairly balanced by the switching, so no issue there.

Red Planet is another cool outside-the-box idea - going from Mars to its war god namesake. I love it! I assume just attacking minions would not count towards the Quest? If it would, the total needs to be much higher. If not, I still think it should be increased to 10, just because it so easy and usually beneficial for Warriors to do that nowadays. With that, I'd say the huge power of the hero power would be fair.

    @MrRhapsody

Comet Trip is a very cool idea (and awesome art choice!). It seems weak compared to Entomb, but Entomb was ridiculously powerful, and Priest had much less direct removal than Mage, so I'd say it's fair.

Far Sighted Telescope is probably my favourite. Usually these "put [a card] on the top of your deck" effects seem underwhelming to me, but I love that this one gives you valuable data about your deck order ("I can't rely on those two cards, so let's adjust the plan"), plus gives you the chance to save one of those dreaded "last cards in the deck" to pull off whatever combo, draw some needed removal, or just find a good tempo drop. It reminds me of Tracking, but without the inevitable case of discarding 2 out of 3 of the best cards in your deck… One minor quibble - the name should really be "Far-Sighted Telescope" with the hyphen.

Solar Flare is a really neat idea that I know would enrage a lot of people, but I would personally find hilarious (probably until I had to face it…). It is really hard to judge the cost, as it could either be game-winning or completely ineffectual. But, considering you can manipulate your board state and control when you play it to increase its potential benefit, I would probably say it should be at least 2 mana.

  • Spacial Awareness - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

    Feedback time; going backwards again:

    Show Spoiler

MrRhapsody - I think I like the Telescope the most: sort of better than Sightless Watcher because of the Mech tag and the information gained, but that's okay because the Watcher is a Basic card. Comet Trip and Solar Flare aren't doin' it for me. The Mage prefers to destroy her targets (or at least Freeze them), and Solar Flare is too cheap for its effect.

anchorm4n - "(S)waps each turn" makes Ebb and Flow interesting, but I don't know how I feel about straight-up giving another class Flamestrike. Still, I like it more than The Red Planet: the Quest is too easy to complete, and the reward artwork is used by Inner Rage. It also falls in a weird place where the flavor is good…but it's "real life" flavor and not Warcraft flavor.

Beatdoof - I do and do not like the gameplay of Touch the Stars. It does its job well (at 3-mana, not the 5-mana of course), but I also feel like the Mage is spammy enough without the need for additional tools. I guess I'm just tired of Mana Cyclone-style gameplay, which is unfair to you but the feeling exists nonetheless. Constellar's Envoy is a fine enough card, but it's not very exciting or engaging.

BasilAnguis - I love the flavor behind Gravity Well, and Comet's flavor is good too. I would pass on Crack in Time, as it's not really related to outer space at all. Of the first two, I would go with Gravity Well.

Pokeniner - Nether-terrestrial is weird, because two things have to die before the Twisting Nether goes off, and in the right order (first the demon, then the minion you chose). I like the idea behind it, but the execution is strange. And as Demonxz95 noted, Elementals did not exist during the time of MSoG, so the spell has some flavor problems; nothing a different watermark can't fix. With those thoughts in mind, I would go with the Astrologist.

shaveyou - I feel like Hunter's Moon could get out of hand really fast, if you and your opponent both have wide boards. If you can consistently get more than 2 procs of the spell, I think a nerf would be in order. I do like the idea behind it, though, and find it more appealing than the Shuttle (not that there's anything wrong with the Shuttle, per se; it's just a little bland).

BloodMefist - Alagon is too complicated: it has 5 lines of text, which is a big no-no. I would remove the part about the stats and balance accordingly; then it would be fine. I think people are tired of Evolve Shaman, so they might dock you points there with Color From Space. I would go with Event Horizon - I love black holes - or a fixed Algalon.

MenacingBagel - This seems fine, although most portals come from Karazhan so it's a little off in that regard.

Wailor - I like Gravity Crash the most, although it probably doesn't need to cost so much. I didn't realize initially that you could have two enemy minions attack each other with this. I guess it's fine at 5.

KANSAS - Obscuron costing less, despite being a reflection of Empyrean, is very strange to me. The Battlecry isn't as good, certainly, but I would make it cost 7 anyway so that they feel more natural together. Other than that, you just need a watermark on your token, to match the original card. I like the mirrored effects, overall.4

Xarkkal - I like where you're going with it, but I think this is way too powerful. I just know someone will abuse this somehow :/ Maybe slash the 8-Cost minion off the effect, and/or move it to the other end (doing 4, 5, 6, and 7)?

Demonxz95 - I like Starace, although my one gripe is that, in a perfect scenario for the Mage, your opponent would never have the chance to deal with Starace and would subsequently get burned over and over until they die. In that sense, the only way to interact with Starace is to destroy him with something like Snipe or Explosive Runes.

Psymon wasn't able to respond here but got in touch with me off-site with some more information.

The issue was isolated to Edge and has been fixed. Edge users also weren't able to reply to comments, use the navigation properly, and all other sorts of JavaScript things. We have so few people on Edge that these things can go unnoticed.

I'd say yeah, we should probably test things out in Edge more often, but now that the newer versions of it are based on Chrome's rendering engine, that isn't really going to be needed.

  • The New Best Decks In Runterra Post Patch 1.2

So the pros have weighed in, let's see what predictions I got wrong.

Tier 1 - Deep, Sejuani, Heimer

So deep was obviously a contender for best deck when things slowed down after the patch, we see a Frej list tier 1 as predicted, and 1 thing I got wrong.

If you'd ask me if Heimer was tier 1 I would have laughed, and been like tier 3 at best

So we'll put the score at 2/3 pretty good, but not perfect calls.

Frej also shows up in tiers 2 and 3 frequently

Dem bannerman has seen a huge drop in play rate, but there is a new version that runs Fiora with spells to help provide an alternate win con.

It's also dropped badger bear, no duh.

The deck is still good it's just different, and harder to play overall.

Karma lists are down to tier 2 that's the other big change, along with burn.

It's worth noting that things are so balanced right now that there is only a 5 percent win rate difference between the best lists and the worst.

So you should honestly just play what you want, if you want to be hardcore play frej if you don't then play whatever you want.

If you're having an issue, please let me know your device type and browser and we can potentially look into it. I recommend making sure your browser is up to date on your phone though - I know I've encountered some people in the past that haven't had that be the case and it has caused issues.

The word search does work much better though with a more traditional setup. If the grid had of been a few columns less, it would work much better on mobile. Its a little disappointing this kind of puzzle doesn't translate well to mobile when a lot of words are involved.
