  • Stuck at Diamond 5. Like, really stuck.

Thanks a lot for your comments!

I've been watching some of my replays, some games were probably unwinnable, but in others I could spot some misplays. I think I became a bit overconfident with the deck (as I was climbing so easily) and I got used to play too fast. So that is something I could improve. I also agree I should have stopped playing when I was on a losing streak, but I'm stubborn sometimes...

Maybe switching the secrets is a good idea, since Friday I encountered 17% DH, 17% Mage, 22% Rogue (mostly secrets, some stealth), 17% Priest, other classes in small percentages. Explosive clearly does nothing against Mage and Priest.

I agree that Highlander Hunter is more powerful, but man, that shit is expensive! Currently I don't have the dust to craft it.

Thanks for the link to Metastats.net, I didn't know that site and I like that you can segment by rank (gold and below, platinum and above); however, it's unclear where they get the stats from... By the way, according to Metastats winrate is not that different between Galakrond Rogue and Galakrond Secret Rogue.

I'd probably stick with Dragon Hunter, maybe switching some secrets; matches playing Rogue take too long for the time I can spend playing Hearthstone this week. Time has always been a problem for me to climb to Legend!

    I'll keep you updated!

  • Petition to buff Sir Finley of the Sands

The card is fine in the its current iteration. It provides a buffed hero power, which is just broken considering that dhunter's buffed hp is 2 attack for 1 mana.

Another argument against it is purely future card design and balances. If it gets too consistent, then devs might just want to avoid those very powerful unconditional cards for paladin in future expansions, not even mentioning its potential in wild.

Also, lets be honest, paladins state of affairs right now is the lack of tempo swing cards, like Rotnest Drake or, dare I say it, [Hearthstone Card (the lurker from below) Not Found], or even just a decent rush minion. Buffing sir finley will boost highlander's paladin chances, but nothing else. Its best to simply address paladin's core issue, than just buffing one very conditional card.

  • Is Nexus Damage Too High? Are You Sick of Card Stealing? Riot's Updated Watch List for Rising Tides

People do get irrationally angry about getting beaten with "their own cards." I used to be a person like that. But then I played Eternal for the last 2.5 years, where stealing cards, playing cards from the graveyard, messing with the player's hand, forcing the other player to discard - these all happen quite regularly. So, you either get over it, or you have a rotten experience. I got over it. But most of the LoR playerbase is not coming from that kind of background, so they are still going to be in the phase of being irrationally angry about their cards getting stolen.

  • Petition to buff Sir Finley of the Sands

Nah, I think the card will get better the bigger the card pool gets he has enough of a pay off in my opinion.

  • Petition to buff Sir Finley of the Sands

Sir Finley of the Sands Card Image

Until his release, the card was debated between skepticals and those who saw potential in this card.

Turns out the card's main weakness is how early you can draw and play it: you need to play the upgraded HP at least a few times, in order to get value from the card.

Which is a bummer, comparing it to the other Highlander cards.

So why not buffing the guy?

    A) There are many ways, but an easy one to me is just giving the Aldor Attendant treatment and buff Sir Finley of the Sands to a 1/3 for (1). This would give two benefits:

    1. It could be tutored much more easily: Call to Adventure, Crystology.
    2. It could curve out much better, with an upgraded HP slapped directly on t2.
    3. It would still be bound to card draw RNG AND Discover RNG (so you can never deckbuild with soecific HP synergies).

    B) Another option would be to turn his effect into a Start of the Game. It would reduce the adaptability of the choice, since you still don't know your opponent besides their class, but I think it would still be a great improvement, and smart players would still be able to predict correctly the best choice, or at least the beneficial jack-of-all-trades choice. This would remove the card draw RNG, leaving the Discover RNG only.

Given the Discover nature of the card (3 random options of 10) I am fairly sure there is hardly any way to make the card suddenly broken (you can never build the deck around specific HP anyway), so any buff would be pretty safe, and it would give Highlander Paladin a chance to shine a bit more, at least as an offmeta deck, and we all know Highlander is always a favored archetype for many, so making it better viable on more classes would be a really smart move.

Further arguments in favor of buffing him here:

    Show Spoiler

    For Standard:
Even assuming you got a 1/3 on t1 every game (which is impossible, chances are lower than 50% if I remember well), there is no way it can turn as strong as Prince Keleseth was: because no RANDOM upgraded HP can be as overwhelming as upgraded CARDS. So there is always a double RNG filter on Finley: card draw AND Discover (whereas Prince only has one level of RNG).

With a random HP, you can never build the deck around one synergy.

    For Wild:
Same as above: have you ever seen Highlander Tempo (Tempo because Sir Finley of the Sands can provide survival, but it can't provide Value to fight toe to toe against a real Control deck) decks toppling the meta? Secret Mage tried and failed, it never became meta, and for a reason: Tempo requires consistency, and Highlander disrupts that, no matter what.

There will always be cards that are more optimal than others, and for Consistency of Tempo you must use both copies of the optimal cards, and ditch the others. Reno decks improve with the release of key Reno cards, while if the generic pool improves, the Doubleton deck is generally better than its Reno counterpart: ie Control Cubelock vs Renolock right now (despite Warlock having insane legendary cards).

Finally, The fact Paladin may benefit more from other cards has nothing to do with buffing Finley. It's a false conflict (and not an argument here).

    So what do you think?

Do you see better ways to buff Sir Finley of the Sands as he deserves?

  • Stuck at Diamond 5. Like, really stuck.

Dragon hunter is very strong, but not overwhelmingly so, and there's so many tech decisions that its not possible to just copy a hsreplay dragon hunter deck and expect to go well with it.

For example, the meta around diamond currently doesnt feature lots of dhunters, so I removed Explosive Trap for Freezing Trap and Snake Trap.

Since there's lots of highlander hunters and other dragon hunters, I replace the boar tech with Scalerider. I might change this to 1x Burrowing Scorpid, as rng keeps screwing me.

For some reason I keep facing murloc paladins, so I tech in Unleash the Hounds. Without this its nearly always an auto lost for hunter.

Honestly, there's little need for Dragonbane. Kill Command more of less does the same thing anyway in most matches. The only thing this can do is to maybe snowball a priest or mage matchup, which you're favored to win anyway.

Its always best to simply climb with a deck you're comfortable with since you are more likely to make better decisions and losing doesnt tilt as much.

  • BlizzCon 2020 Has Been Cancelled

Despite the low fatality rate, there are people ACTUALLY dead from this diseases. People LIVES are gone. Nope, they don't matter cos it's only 0.4% fatality rate and the govs all over the world are stupid to lockdown their country. We should all just live, gather, party and commute as per normal as the diseases is "not deadly" according to you. Those people who died or currently infected by it are just unlucky. They don't matter. Too bad for them. Dead is dead, right?

It's the right decision to cancel the event.

I can only hope they do a good job with the "online version" of it, because otherwise it will just show how greedy they have become and they will lose yet another chunk of their fans just to gain the revenue from all the virtual tickets we will buy.

  • BlizzCon 2020 Has Been Cancelled

You sound a bit judgy condescending.  Your too wrapped up in the media hype. Look at places suchi as Sweden and Georgia( US state), who lifted restrictions or never had any, their numbers of cases are not exploding. Silicon valley hospitals are ghost towns so much so they have to lay off hospital staff. This is true in so many places.   My neighbor is a senior admin for valley medical, the public hospital system in San jose. He said the emergency wards there are empty.

Beyond that ,What makes me sick is a family restaurant that was in business for 40 years in my neighborhood was shutdown permanently because of SIP.  So many mom and pop shops, the heart of the middle-class are being destroyed, while Jeff Bezos is raking it in. Where is your compassion for the small businesses owner? But hey as long as it doesn't affect your bottom line, right? I wonder if you would be singing the same tune if your website was forced shut by the govt. Caring and compassion and community building are great things.  It starts with understanding those small businesses people who are being destroyed.  There are two sides to every argument. Perhaps try to show a little understanding.

  • How to approach the wildcard/shards hoarding in the long term

This is the strategy I used I put in $100 and bought all the common and rare cards I then played for about 3 weeks and used everything I got to buy epics and the champions I needed to make some decks it is a good way to do it in my opinion and then I put in another $100 and just bought all the cards I am currently crystal hoarding for the next expansion to now go everything F2P

  • Hearthstone Grandmasters 2020 Season 1 - Week 6 Recap

Most players keep a poker face out of respect for their opponent. Others simply dislike grandiose celebrations.

There was once a korean pro in the old masters format for Asia, I can't remember his name but I think he actually qualified for 2018's worlds, who was pretty much laughing and clapping at every rng play that went his way. Can't imagine what's it like to lose to this guy. He might as well be showing the middle finger to the other side with every top deck win.

  • BlizzCon 2020 Has Been Cancelled

Blizz has made the right decision to cancel blizzcon for this year. But honestly, even if the COVID was not a thing, they should probably take a pause for a year anyway, considering how it went for the previous blizzcons.

Having made announcements of new games previously, but not release dates, I cant help but feel if this year's blizzcon went ahead it would be to hype up more diablo 4 and overwatch 2, but tacitly mention no release date again. If Im not mistaken, the much hated diablo immortal isn't even out yet, so what exactly is there to show that we aren't already waiting to be released?

I hear diablo 2 remastered being talked about, but judging by how starcraft and warcraft remastered got out, I'd rather see the thing itself than yet another hyped up illustration of how it could be.

  • BlizzCon 2020 Has Been Cancelled

Death rates don't reflect the full extent of the problem. For every person that dies from the disease, there are x more who don't but for medical intervention. Medical intervention which costs money AND uses up limited medical resources and manpower. Resources which are needed by people seeking treatment for other illnesses. Manpower which can also fall ill and further reduce capacity. The idea isn't to eradicate the virus - it is to reduce the rate of infection so that the healthcare system isn't completely overwhelmed. I am grateful I live in a country where the government and the general populace understand that.

KANSAS - How exactly is 3/3/4 more AESTHETICALLY pleasing than 3/3/3? I'm curious. Besides that the card is just too strong in its current form.

I think 3/4 looks really good because it is prime stats for 3 mana. You know it will be able to fight against almost any other 3-drop and survive. Also, I think this may just be me, but 3 mana cards feel smooth to play, if you know what I mean. I don't know why, but 3 mana 3/4 is my favourite stat-line, it just feels good to play on curve, and it can trade very efficiently in the early game.

Really though I have no good reason for not making this a 3/3. I shouldn't be picky about things like that, I will update the card tomorrow with reduced stats.

I feel like it's because 3 mana 3/4 is a very easy statline to work with, while also feeling right on the cusp of balance. Basically, what I mean is that it's already a serviceable statline by itself, but it allows you to make minions with premium stats and beneficial abilities, resulting in cards that seem decently strong but not overtuned without that much difficulty.

Well, I've read your points, and I can understand perhaps while you feel the way you do, even if I cannot agree with them. I, too, have a full time job and other things in my life, and I'm likely older than you, and did not grow up playing these sorts of games. Having the time to practice and play is integral to being good at any sort of activity, and I'm sure if either of us had more time we could be better than we are. This, however, is no one's fault, and it is not unfair, in my opinion, that someone may have an advantage over me in a situation because I don't have time to learn everything current in the game.

To be honest, I'm actually not all that great at either HS or Magic, but I enjoy playing them, and I'd love to be able to earn the dumb Legend cardback and the nice rewards people get for finishing up at the top of the ranks. I've heard it takes a lot of time, a lot of grinding, and I'm sure some innate skills in probabilities helps as well. This probably means I won't have any of those rewards, but luckily, there are other reasons to play the game as well, including the fun of collecting the cards and cardbacks, the art, the links to Warcraft in HS case, storylines, what have you. To ignore the desires of portions of the player base because it might make it slightly harder for someone else to recognize a card for a few games at rank whatever seems a bit narrow-minded on the face of it, and maybe even a little selfish. I spend money on these things like everyone else, and I don't think it's "inconsiderate" of me to enjoy it in my own way.

Do I need alternate art in Hearthstone? No, not really - I also don't need animation or sound effects or glowy highlights on my cards. Truthfully, the game doesn't need art at all. But I would like it, because it would enhance my enjoyment of the game, and crazily enough, I feel like my enjoyment matters as much as anyone else's.

  • Multiple Secret Lair Drop Series Announced Today

Strong disagree here. I currently play multiple CCGs, have a family, a full-time job, and a second job working on this website. With new sets releasing every couple of months for everything it's honestly hard to keep up with card names and what they do. It's much easier to see an image and say "Hey, I know exactly what that is and what it does". Otherwise, you may have to re-read text and maintain focus on those cards over multiple turns, which can cost you the game just by not recognizing what you're looking at.

I understand you may have absolutely no issue with multiple alternate pieces of artwork for a card, but it's not for everyone. I don't think we need to expect all players to identify the cards in exactly the same way, or give them grief about not appreciating different artwork at the same level you do. Also, it's one thing if you add an "alter" to your own deck, but if your opponent does it, you might be at a disadvantage.

I remember in my twenties I loved getting Japanese copies of MTG cards (this was well before alterations hit the scene) and would add them to my decks. Some people hated playing against them because they were not familiar enough with the cards to know what they did. I always had English versions on hand, but I think it makes people feel stupid if they have to ask what a card does. The cards looked cool (to me) but I probably should have been more considerate of other players.

you're not alone friend. Been rotating back and forth from D2 to D5. Been running every kind of deck, from aggro and control.

From Rogue before nerfs, and Priest after nerfs. Even Enrage Warrior is bad enough to bring me back to D5. It's not a matter of winrate, but a state of mind. I even gave up if I made any slight error in my deck because of frustration. (I probably can still win it).

The only thing I learn is don't push your luck. If you win or lose 3 times, just stop playing.

I got a bit carried away by the theme. The results are everything but normal. Let me know what you think:

    Quick round of feedback:

    Show Spoiler

Neoguli - I very much prefer Zaraam. It even inspired me to do my own version. I agree with others that its stats should be a bit worse to balance out the permanent upside it provides.

Wailor - 3/3/4 'When one of the lovers dies, so does the other.' I'd suggest Romulo to be textless, so you can Silence Juliette to save him/her…

Shivershine -  Very nice Highlander support. Try to zoom/move/replace the art so there is no tect on his pants…

Hordaki - Of the three I prefer Ivan. He ssems a little bit expensive though.

Nirast - 'All' isn't all caps if it is restricted to friendly Deathrattles only. Rikkar was never a boss we fought iirc?

    Cg8889 - Krizik has a crazy effect. That's a variation I Haven't seen yet. I like it a lot.

MenacingBagel - Deryl is really nice and i dare say balanced, but people will struggle to understand what it does no matter how good you word it out… Icarax captures the essence of Wrath very well. 'ALL' should be all caps though…

KANSAS - How exactly is 3/3/4 more AESTHETICALLY pleasing than 3/3/3? I'm curious. Besides that the card is just too strong in its current form.

Elfensilver - I'd prefer this to give random rogue spells, because many of them have to do with cutting… That and every other custom Rogue card has burgle synergies already…

meisterz39 - I prefer Cragtorr and Xur'ios. Cragtorr maybe is a bit strong compared to Glowfly Swarm, since it has no restrictions…

grumpymonk - Illidara seems dangerously close to OP. I like Alda the most, because it incentifies diverse deck building. 'Costs' should be capitalized.
