I've already submitted my Curator (with new art and a modified name), but I'm wondering what folks think of this new rebuild of Sally Whitemane:
My first version was rightly called out as too powerful - effectively a stronger Kel'Thuzad that would make Taunt and Rush minions too powerful. While I have some ideas on how to adjust for that (e.g. make the aura only active on your turn to avoid the unfair taunt issues), I also got feedback that she was giving some people Res Priest PTSD.
The fact is, Sally Whitemane's whole shtick is resurrection, so she belongs in some kind of Res Priest build. But I think it's kind of a shame that Res Priest is exclusively a slow, control deck. Resurrection should also be able to slot reasonably into a midrange or tempo Priest build. So, this Sally resurrects minions, but is probably too small on her own to naturally slot into a typical "Big Res Priest" deck.
What about Ancharrr? I don't have that and... I don't wanna spend 1600 dusts on a pirate legendary card.
Ancharrr is really nice because risky skipper is a core card of the deck, you need it to build armor against DH and to make bombs in other match up. So the deck would work without it but the pirate package would be much less efficient.
We are using our Plague of Flames aggressively early on, and it is always worth a deck slot if it means protecting yourself from various archetypes - mostly to annoy Jade druids - but it also help countering mages ;)
I won't doubt the validity of the geist, I use it in my lock decks. But combined with Plague of Flames in a deck, that is one of the cards that you use to drop cube after it's swallowed something good. But hey, that's me.
I assume you mean "mulligan" ("milling" usually refers to removing cards from your opponent's deck). If so, it works in this game just like it would with real-life cards: The exact cards you've selected from your hand are excluded from the redraw pool, but you can certainly draw additional copies of those cards if you're running multiple in your deck. It may be frustrating to get a copy of the same card you just mulliganed away, but it's perfectly logical and consistent.
Or maybe you already knew all that and just wanted to vent a little :P. That's fine, too. Everyone gets annoying mulligans every once in a while.
Sorry in advance, I know I'm being pedantic here (because you're basically right), but not all games remove your original hand from the mulligan pool. In MTG, for instance, you shuffle your entire deck and redraw, so you could get the literal exact same set of cards (though the odds are vanishingly small).
Of course, as you've said, when you have multiple copies of a card, you can easily draw the same card again despite a "no replacements" mulligan, but it's an oddity about digital CCGs that they're not more explicit about what kind of replacement policy they have for mulligans. LoR says "choose cards to replace" in their mulligan screen, so I guess they think that's explicit enough, but I could imagine ways to make it clearer - e.g. "Choose which cards to replace with other cards from your deck.")
I agree with almost everything said here, I'd just like to add that sometimes combinations of lackeys can be useful, such as kobold and goblin to get 2+2 damage from an empty board, faceless plus witchy can help mitigate a bad roll such as doomsayer. And of course lackeys are great combo activators in general, not just for edwin..
Lackeys are generally used to maintain rogue's board position, and any use that gets you tempo back is a good use of a lackey. A few key uses in my opinion;
- Kobold Lackey is perhaps the most flexible and most desired for obvious reasons. Most common use is to clear a minion on board. There's little to no downside to playing this lackey most of the time.
- Ethereal Lackey is the scariest for your opponent, since rogue has plenty of removal spells. Its also the easiest to play; there's no downside from playing this card except hand space. One key note is that it can get you some cheap spells for a nice big juicy Edwin VanCleef, so if you're facing down dhunters or druid, it might be worth it hold on for that payout.
- Draconic Lackey. Terrible for combo, terrible for hand space management, conditional value generator. Its easily the worse lackey for tempo, but it can give you some options like Alexstrasza or a second Dragonqueen if youre playing highlander so its not terrible, just not as desired as the other lackeys. Only play this if youre out of cards, or if you're hanging on to some floating mana. Otherwise its almost always just togwaggle fodder.
- Titanic Lackey. Probably one of the hardest to play, and a misstep in using this lackey can decide games. It depends on matchups; sometimes its better to give +2 health to something so its awkward for your opponent to play around (like Warglaives of Azzinoth). Against druid or tempo dhunters, giving a massive Edwin taunt can literally decide the game. Playing around removal cards from mage and priest is another good use of this card. Other uses is to allow value trading, or protecting key minions.
- Witchy Lackey. Bad in most cases since it needs a minion on board to be good. Its most commonly played on low impact minions like EVIL Miscreant or Devoted Maniac. Other than that its just a dice roll most of the time.
- Goblin Lackey is like Titanic Lackey, decisive when this is played. Rogue doesnt have many taunt options so it relies on removal more so than other classes. Use this to clear a big minion or a key minion from an opponent's board. But the best use of it is to rush a minion for a value trade.
Most people (if not all) don't create the art displayed on their cards. There is plenty to choose from on the internet, so it's just a matter of finding something that fits your design.
There's a great post by Tox that talks about the whole card creation process in case you're interested.
It happens a lot! I have had it many times where I mill like 3 cards and every single one of them comes back as the same card I milled. It's like the game is saying; "Oh you don't want those? Well, f**k you! You have been winning to much lately so now we have to screw you over somehow." >_<
\rant over.
This happens in literally every card game. Have you ever played poker?
Quick question. I'm not an artist, so how does one actually procure the necessary art for a fan creation card? It seems all the arts are just fantastic and on point.
I think there's so many possible scenarios that the only remotely succinct answer puts it down to general HS experience, including reading your deck match-up and determining your best options for winning. For the lackeys with more complex decisions, consider:
Ethereal Lackey: while this can find you an answer in a tight spot, the spells available to each class are too diverse (except in Demon Hunter, but they're not using lackeys) for it to be worth holding this back like you might with Zephrys. Instead I prefer to play it whenever I have 1 mana spare so I know what spell I have to try to make good use out of in later turns.
Draconic Lackey: as above, play this when you can so you can optimise the use of the dragon rather than hoping for anything in particular. Often the question is whether you want a big or (relatively) small dragon, and that varies from deck to deck and game to game. If you already have lots of big minions, then a cheaper dragon probably makes sense, but if you need more value, then go big.
Titanic Lackey: there are a few common scenarios I can think of. 1) you just need a big taunt to slow aggro, so put it on the biggest minion you can. 2) you want to protect a high priority minion, so obviously don't give that minion taunt unless the 2 health will save it. Even putting a small minion in the way, e.g. another lackey, can be right here. 3) you just need to give a minion the health to value trade. There's nothing complicated in this case.
Witchy Lackey: usually just evolve damaged or low stat minions with high cost as normal. There is some care to take with evolving taunt minions though, because you cannot rely on getting another taunt minion.
Goblin Lackey: sometimes it is right to buff a minion that can already attack, even if that means you don't make use of rush.
Of course you might want to hold onto them for combo activation or lackey synergies, but otherwise I play them whenever their ability is useful.
Are there any general strategies for making best use of lackeys? Such as board states to look for to decide which minion to add taunt? What spells can you get and should you look for?
Are there just too many options, or are there some patterns that you can look for an achieve fairly regularly?
1: PRIESTS. I find it highly disrespectful that i have to keep playing the game while removing... one... certain... card.. every... turn.. "GREETINGS fellow Humans huehue" (or Khartut Defender) I'm happy they are making priests more board centric in stead of infinite resses/necromancer, but most of the time i just concede the second i find a priest. Why play 1 game against a priest, while you can play like 4 games against other classes in the same. (Btw. this comes from someone that likes playing control decks.)
2: The Paladin Treatment: I HATE how paladin only gets new gimmicks every expansion. This expansions Librams are fun, and synergies a bit in wild, but in standard, paladin gets close to 0 support for existing archetypes, EXCEPT MURLOC PALADIN. Paladin used to be this fun class that's good at most things, just like shaman. But now paladin is just a shell of it's former glory. (Except in wild, there paladin is pretty good because of Baku the Mooneater) If only they had you know, given paladin better control tools at least. Paladin lacks GOOD board clears. Paladin lacks BIG late game clears, and small clears/bursts before turn 4. Also the new Libram is a arguably weaker version of Shrink Ray. It now doesn't hit your own minions, but that comes at the price of your opponents minions keeping their attack stat, making it so you take a bunch more face dmg while removing them.
@Xarkkal After what you said I had to agree and change it up a bit. The first time I ever made this card I actually tought about putting +1/+1 as well as Rush but I tought that would be too OP so I decided to keep the rush because it would be more impactful but it really made the flavor suffer so now I did as you said .
What about Ancharrr? I don't have that and... I don't wanna spend 1600 dusts on a pirate legendary card.
I played mine without it. Bomb warrior needs its Wrenchcalibur and you'd much rather have that from the Hoard Pillager. Its partially a control deck, and more often than not you'd be playing 1-2 cards every turn anyway.
If you have the other cards, why not try it for yourself.

Finished climb to legent with Odemian's bomb warrior, have a look
Bladefist is good, esp in long games, and deathwing can clean a board at turn 8 which often allowed me to steal the tempo from rogues.
If I had to replace deathwing I would look for something that give me tempo advantage, a goblin bomber or something with value like another pillager.
IN all cases, it would be a card aimed to warriors and rogues more than DH, the DH match up is already fine as it is.

It's good vs DH, I Iost against the only hunter I faced, but I was salty about it, my draws felt extremely unlucky.

Some minions to consider before playing anything; Doomsayer, Mana Wraith, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Bloodmage Thalnos, Arcane Flakmage, Dire Wolf Alpha. Obviously playing this and getting a doomsayer is disastrous, so play at your own risk, and mind those positionings.
Lackey Strategy
You're right. I forgot that with Faceless Lackey you should always try to get Millhouse Manastorm. Any other 'choice' is usually a misplay.

Wow that’s interesting to say the least!
How does it play against DH and Hunters though?
I got to D4 with Highlander mage. From there on it was a one way route to legend with Egg Warrior. (10 wins in a row at the end)
Gotta say that i faced allmost no rogues though! But risky skipper destroys any kind of agressive deck when played correctl
What is your most unreasonable dislike of a deck?
Honestly can choose between 2 things.
1: PRIESTS. I find it highly disrespectful that i have to keep playing the game while removing... one... certain... card.. every... turn.. Well i mostly hated facing Jade Druid back then - and it wasn't fun to play against the Old Quest Rogue :)

Looks like a fun list - gonna try this one since i'm Diamond 5 and mostly face rogues right now :)
I think i will drop Ancharrr that the Hoard Pillager will be more consistent to get Wrenchcalibur back.
Egg Warrior - 59% WR HSReplay
Priest is the worst matchup. Especially res priest.
You got two choices.
1. Overwhelm them with crazy tempo.
2. Combo them down with Kor‘kron and Mercenary
I would focus on other matchups first. You can beat DH and Hunters pretty consistantly when you use Risky skipper correctly.
Just flew on a 10-Win winstreak to legend with this! (Without garosh, he is to expencive imo)
