Congrats! That surely is a great feeling :-) Nice to see that rather conservative decks still work these days. If I'm lucky enough to find Kanrethad Ebonlocke in one of my season's reward packs tomorrow, I will give your deck a shot. Thanks for sharing!

  • Am I crazy, or do they still not tell you what your daily quest is on login?

I kind of thought this was going to be resolved with their first major release, but as far as I can tell, the only way to see what daily quests you have is to click into the quests. I know it's pretty minor, but it seems like a simple quality-of-life add. I often forget before my first match or two to look at it, and end up wasting time not making progress against it.

Congrats OP :) I personaly like these "Legend first time" posts, because I ´ve never been there and it gives me a bit of hope  :P I´m happy for you, don´t let anyone let you down by saying it doesn´t mean anything, be proud :D

For even a slightly above average player (or average player with busted deck?) it's definitely doable as long as you have the time, and a bit of luck on your side doesn't hurt either.

But no rush - took me 3 years to get there, and I never actually tried until this year.  Even if you never do as long as you enjoy the game it doesn't matter what rank you are.

    Congrats mate!

I think this one time you are allowed to brag.  And I can't talk I did exactly the same thing last month when I got Legend for the first time!

And last month I thought, great now I definitely will get golden epic next season as will start at rank 4 - won't need to climb.  Blizzard had other ideas :) :)

And this time you get a free Legendary!  Hope it was better than mine when I made Legend this month (The Beast)

Enjoy the feeling and if you took a screenshot keep it somewhere safe !!!

Maybe they could make some deck recipes centered around new cards (mainly champions) and allow any player to play those for the first week(s)?

Isn't that part of what expeditions are for? At least regarding the new region. I mean, you only get 1 free token per week, so if you want to run more trials, you'll have to pay for them. But Riot purposely upped the probability of Bilgewater-based buckets to pop up for expeditions. This should give players a good chance to draft decks around the new Bilgewater champions.

Disclaimer: I haven't started an expedition on the release patch, so this is all theoretical.

Expeditions are still a very different experience than playing with a 'normal' deck. And as I already mentioned I personally just don't enjoy expeditions very much but that's my problem. Right now I would prefer being able to play prebuild decks without getting any rewards for it over playing expeditions, because the former is 1) more enjoyable for me and 2) gives me more insight into what type of deck I would like to play and which cards I would like to craft.

By the way, I'm not saying my idea is good. It's just an idea.

  • Anyone else getting STOMPED?

    1. EVERYONE was playing decks built around expansion champions, implying they heavily crafted immediately
    2. All my pre-expansion decks are very weak against these new decks:
      • My P&Z/Noxus aggro deck and SI/Frejlord control deck were both winless for the night.
      • I finally had some mild success with Vlad + Braum of all things--still less than 50%, but at least I could grind out my bonus XP

There was enough time to theorycraft decks before launch. Once the expansion hits, isn't getting the available rewards then use those to craft and have fun the standard thing to do?

P&Z/Noxus Darius is EXTREMELY strong if you include a few expansion non-champion cards.
SI/Frejlord is the deck i am still playing in ranked and destroying the majority of new decks, as i am taking advantage such decks are still not optimized.
Warmother is sadly another history. It didn't receive a single useful card from this expansion, so its pretty much dead.

IF new players are getting stomped, its a match making related problem and nothing to do with the expansion.
Don't forget players also have the option to grind quests against the AI and friends.

Sorry for the brag-thread. But i'm quite happy now.

Made it to legend the first time in all this year (most probably due to the smaller grind, thanks to the new system) with zoolock.

Here's the list. Faced mostly demon hunters and rogues, where the deck does well. Got a overall winrate of 64% from diamont five to legend. Took me only 56 games (lol!) and now i'm sitting quite comoftable at legend rank 45788 (lol again :D).

  • Anyone else getting STOMPED?

I do not play Runeterra but latest Hearthstone expansion introduced new class (Demon Hunter) which was so busted, beating ALL other classes, that Blizzard nerfed it within 24 hours. But powercreep is a bad thing in card games, makes your collection obsolete.

  • New rule about replacing board units

I'm really mixed on this change overall. I kind of liked the board management aspect of having to keep a spot open for a new unit to play if you have a lot of stuff on the board. But on the flipside, it occasionally created very boring board states where you're left with nothing to do if your opponent refuses to kill any of your (weak) units. I'll have to see how it works out in practice before I can make up my mind.

Very cool idea, I love this! What would you think about additionally taking one or two cards that haven't done so well and explain the mistakes that were made or ways to improve them? Do you think people might take that badly?

  • Anyone else think expeditions feel worse with Bilgewater?

    Quote From meisterz39

They've done that with Purrsuit of Perfection being converted to Accelerated Purrsuit

Personally, I like the idea of changes like this to accommodate the Expedition format.

But I've always been stumped as to why they did this to Purrsuit of Perfection in particular. I think it's an unnecessary change - the card works exactly the same (and with the same efficiency) in constructed and limited. Deck size has nothing to do with it. Perhaps Riot figured that drafting buckets made creating a deck filled with 1-ofs too difficult? If anything, I'd advocate reducing the threshold to 15 cards for constructed, as well (In most matchups with my Catastrophe deck, I get nowhere near the required 20).

On the flipside, the Deep mechanic obviously benefits quite massively from the lower deck size. I would like to see a change to the mechanic for Expeditions only, like triggering at 10 or less cards in the deck; possibly even 5, but that might be a bit too punishing as players would have a maximum of 5 turns to benefit from their buffed units.

3 Bombs kind of feels like too many for the 6 mana cost. Bomb Warrior typically has a lot of armor gain, so I don't know how much of a downside this is for removing 3 of your opponent's cards from play, and placing 15 damage worth of bombs in your opponent's deck. If you're wanting a Hakkar effect, maybe the cost should be more on par with Hakkar? I like the idea, but something doesn't feel quite right about it and I can't put my finger on it. Sorry, I know that's not very helpful.

Unholy Justice is insane! With the amount of cards you could potentially burn, 5 mana feels a little cheap to me. Odd One Out I can see where you're going with, but I don't think it works at all.

I honestly feel you can put this at 0 mana, 1 mana feels forced just to get it into odd paladin. I like the flavor, major props for the good pun name. But it just feels like a worse Embiggen.

You were correct to submit Underbelly Trickster. I gave it 4 stars just because I have some balance concerns since the effect can be such a huge game ending interruption to your opponent. That and very annoying to play against. I'm not sure how I would balance it better, but something just feels slightly OP in it's current form.

I think the "can't be discarded" makes this way too powerful. If you're determined to keep that, I think you should bump it up to 10-mana. Otherwise, let it be a risk to be discarded just like all cards in discard lock, and it is fine at 8-mana.

  • Invincible card?

    Quote From CursedParrot

I think he means Detaining an enemy unit with your indestructible unit. That way, there’s no way to remove the indestructible unit without also getting rid of the detained unit inside it.

Ah, that makes sense. You're right, it'd effectively turn Detain into Vengeance without triggering Last Breaths.

  • Highlander Murloc Paladin Crushes ALL.

The deck needs more card draw, and is difficult to comb Skyfin when you just have 3 dragons.

    But its funny. :)

  • New rule about replacing board units

yes it's intended.. since the unit is generated there's no way you get a way to decide on who to replace for it so it would create a feelsbad moment where a good unit will be replaced with.. a spiderling..

Nice! I'm gonna see if I can scratch some dust together to craft Umbra and try both of those Deathrattle decks. Thanks for showcasing them!

  • Anyone else getting STOMPED?

I know this isn't the main topic of this thread, but I think the biggest issue of not allowing/encouraging players to buy card packs when a new expansion hits is now very apparent, i.e. players who don't have many resources or who value them too much are discouraged to immediately start to play new decks. This becomes even more prevalent when combined with the fact that you need 3 copies (or at least 2) of a champion to build a deck around them. I personally have far more resources than I need to build a few new decks, but because I have no idea what I want to craft yet I am still playing pre-expansion decks or expeditions (which is not a game mode I enjoy very much). I'm not sure if many others experience it this way though.

I don't know what they could do to about this. Maybe they could make some deck recipes centered around new cards (mainly champions) and allow any player to play those for the first week(s)?
