    It’s Comic Sans.

    Beryllium Nullifier

Why Beryllium? Because it’s hard to spell.

    How about this?

Legendary Secret? That's going to get you a lot of flair.

I was actually trying to find reasons to critique the card and then realized that I couldn't really come up with anything, so it seems good. I guess the only downside of the card is that it's fairly easy to play around and requires extremely specific timing, although that's not necessarily new for Secrets.

    Really? Thanks!

Just to clarify, “different cards” could either mean they can’t play the cards they played last turn, or it could be that they can’t play ALL the cards they played last turn. Which do you think is the most balanced interpretation?

I think the first one is fine, not being allowed to play any card they played on their first run of that turn

Sunkeeper Tarim - Ironically, his favorite number is 4.

I just took it from HSReplay for a news post so no plans of updating this particular deck. However, I did end up playing this one quite a bit with K1ngMrglMrgl's modifications below (as I also kept drawing Patches while playing another aggro DH). I'm somewhat surprised that you found Quest Mage an easy matchup, my winrate against them was clearly below 50% (it's pretty much all about how well they draw though).

If I were to try to edit the deck somehow, I'd likely try out either Hench-Clan Thug or Vicious Fledgling as replacements for the nerfed 3-drops. I've also seen some variants run a natural copy of Mana Burn but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Still seeing a LOT of Quest Mages... Don't these guys ever give up?

Crushed some with Odd DH and Even Hunter but as Reno Priest it's still unwinnable (and we can extend that to any other slow deck). Time will tell if this balance is enough to cull their population

Would you mind sharing those modifications

@MurlocAggroB didn’t reply in a while. Should we skip em?

  • Odd Demon Hunter

So Frosty, are you planning to update this? There must be a good Odd DH in the meta, at least Tier 2/3. It already did great against Quest Mage, should do even better now.

I play another build, with some different 3 and 5 drops and no Altruis (Warglaives is bonkers), but the loss of Albatross was huge... Reno Priest/Mage is very tough now. Trying Hench-Clan Thugs in their spot but it's much weaker in DH than it was in Rogue for obvious reasons. A bit skeptical also with the 3 pirates. Feels terrible to draw Patches!

  • Hearthstone Grandmasters 2020 Season 1 - Week 1 Results, Decklists, and More!

    Show Spoiler

This weekend's matches also were the first of their kind for the seven new Grandmasters so how did they fare?

    • 6/7 got out of the Swiss phase (PapaJason was the only one who didn't)
    • 4/7 got to Top 4
    • 1/7 got to the Final and won (Empanizado)

All in all, most of them started out very solidly and gave themselves good chances to reach that coveted Division A.

I get the feeling that the original grand masters have become complacent and don't have the fire anymore which is why the new blood did so well.

Frostee isn't even streaming HS anymore, and RDU's channel is primarily a BG stream.

I’m just really glad they didn’t nerf Altruis so that his damage only affected minions.  With the nerf to Sac Pac, this is probably a net positive for DH at the moment

I made it to 5 platinum with Highlander Priest and decided I had had enough. I found Highlander Mage to be more effective against DH although neither is top tier. I'm playing around with Egg Warrior thanks to this guide. It really needs to be pointed out that Egg Warrior is nonexistent on HS Replay. This site is a great resource for a shifting meta. I'll also echo some constructive sentiments for a better organization for this article, which is otherwise fantastic.

Unfortunately no, we do not allow people to edit or remove their cards after submitting :( We always suggest people come here first if they want feedback on their ideas.

If you could PM ShadowsOfSense or myself, that would be preferable :)

Will do. Did not expect to win the first competition I took part it, the card was put together rather quickly and I wasn't that happy with its overall balancing of parameters, actually had some ideas on how to slightly iterate on it but I guess you guys were satisfied with it regardless.^

I think it's because you had a very unique and interesting effect that was pretty much spot on for the competition. I honestly saw your card the first time and thought, "Well, that one's the winner!"

Congrats on the win! Very deserved and welcome to the competitions!

    C'Thun

C'Thun's least favorite Hearthstone card: Eye for an Eye.

    Lost in the Jungle

George and Karl were never heard from again.

    Arch-Villain Rafaam

Minions must wash hands before being LIQUIDATED AND REPLACED BY SOMEONE BETTER.

    Swampqueen Hagatha

Rafaam mainly enjoys working with Hagatha because she never laughs at Dr. Boom's jokes.

Mine is Mindflayer Kaahrj "It is pronounced 'Kaahrj'". It makes me laugh every time. Some other really good ones are Stitched Tracker "He is just exercising his right to bear arms", and Aldor Truthseeker "Its under 'T'".

Here are two secrets, and one more I made for this competition. Let me know what you think.

Retaliating Flame is scary, but at the same time it might be okay. The other two Secrets in question progress from a casting of Arcane Intellect to a 6/6 minion on the table; is the next step up 3 damage to all enemies? I think I would be less concerned if the face-damage wasn't there, but then this would just be a different variant of Flame Ward. By the way you're missing the period at the end of the sentence and the word "to" between "damage" and "all". My other concern is one of flavor: fire doesn't really jive with The Witchwood.

All that being said, I think you should stick with Retaliating Flame; Pitfall Trap is fine, but I like the idea of completing the Witchwood trio more.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I put the face damage there because, like you said, it would be effectively the same as Flame Ward. My first idea was to deal 8-10 face damage, but I don't think that would have worked out well.

I will fix the grammatical errors, I actually never noticed that you needed a period at the end of Hearthstone cards.

About your own cards, I like Counter Strike the best. I think it is powerful, but not too frustrating to play against. I would vote 4 stars because I really can't think of anything wrong with it, withholding one star only because it is a bit plain.

  • Card Design Conversation - Whose Company?

Well, think about it like this, what would be the point of sneaking an odd cost card into your Gyruda deck, or a 3+ cost minion into your Lurrus deck when your opponent would just catch you as soon as you played it? Maybe you could put it in your deck and nobody would catch you, but you would be banned before you would be able to sneak it onto the field.

And with companions like Lutri, you could be running multiple copies of a card in your deck, but then just not play a second copy so that your deck could be more consistent. But couldn't you already do that? How is my opponent supposed to know I am not play 6 copies of Questing Beast in my deck? I could just stop playing more after the fourth one and my opponent would never find out.

I understand why you are worried, but really there isn't a good way to cheat with the Companions that isn't already possible without them.

  • Card Design Conversation - Whose Company?

Most competitive play requires you to submit decklists before the event to make sure everything is legal. There have been tournaments that I have gone to where there are no judges but still require checklists. Like there's nothing physically preventing you from running a deck with 5+ copies of non-basic cards, except the fact you are literally cheating and you'll have to feel bad about it. Revealing a companion is basically just telling the opponent "hey if you catch me with any cards that do not follow the rules listed on the companion, I'm committing a rules infraction and can be kicked out of the event on the spot" which is probably one of the worst ways you can cheat in this game. This also means that if you want to be a scummy person, you can go to play some kitchen table with a deck breaking the companion requirements, but given that it's a casual setting against most likely your friends, the only thing you're really hurting is your friendship. In this type of setting you might be able to ask your friend for their decklist if your paranoid they are cheating but that's all up to the players, not some official rules committee to make up.

For short, in pretty much any event they can ask for decklists to make sure you aren't cheating. If you don't want to take the word of the person playing the companion and its a casual environment, you can ask for the decklist to double-check but I don't think people are going to try cheating that much in casual kitchen table mtg.

Here's a thing that's always dawned on me about the MTG companions ever since they were revealed is how would you prove it?

In Hearthstone, the game is obviously digitized, so the game can just check and confirm your deck is built the right way for you. I assume the same would happen for MTG Arena when these cards get released there.

But in paper Magic, what do you do? Is your opponent allowed to check your deck to verify that your Companion's ability can be used? Would you need someone from outside the game to do that so that your opponent can't read your deck? In competitive play with judges, that might not be such a problem, but in play without judges, who's going to verify your deck is built correctly? Are they just supposed to take your word for it?

Great!  Now I can safely play Magtheridon without worrying if my meme dreams will be crushed for zero mana.

Indeed--you only need to worry about Faceless Corruptor, Polymorph, Hex, Deadly Shot, and the exceptionally likely possibility that your opponent can still kill you first.  All of which consume more than zero mana.

EDIT: wait, I forgot about Shadowstep.  Resume despair.
